Merla is chaotic evil? Ouch, I would've never guess... D: I was blinded by how adorable she is.Sergei-san wrote:Hopefully Merla hasn't pissed people off (she's CE).
I've been trying to play a clever CE instead of being Chaotic Stupid.
Or perhaps my understanding of being chaotic evil isn't correct. Perhaps those "zOMGletskillsuxxors" evil characters thought the same as I did. Or perhaps being adorable is Merla's secret weapon.

to be honest i'm sort of waiting for my favored villain to comment here, that would be Kell by the way, i'm sure you have some twisted baby eating goat sacrificing drow coming aloong that can bend peopple to believe that he is innocent even though you did sort of just wipe out an entire village and drinked every last drop of blood from the bodies before burning it all to the ground...
did i mention Kell would have done all that and most likely got away with it too?
that's the sort of evil i expect to see on Dasaria 2 aswell...

The key to playing "great" evil and the key to playing "annoying " evil is one word- respect.
The great evils respect the community, they are willing to take hits for the good of the community, they create elaborate plots and schemes that take twists and turns. It is never about instant gratification. ( well sometimes it is).
Both Celadrith and Tasia, my two great Dasarian evils, were played very differently. Celadrith was the evil manipulative, shadowy schemer who never got caught. Tasia was in your face evil with honor that ended up having many of the "heros" mourning her death., and thrilled when she was ressurected.
If I had played either of them like the majority of the evil I have been seeing and hearing about, their stories would have ended in the first few months, not spanning the whole three years that I played.
Frankly, if you are not mature enough to keep in mind that what is "fun" for you could be annoying others and change your behavior accordingly, do not be surprised when the community turns against you, the DMs exclude you from upcoming events, and your time on Dasaria becomes quite hard.
I, for one, am tired of watching the staff having to take the time away from developing and fixing the real problems because they have to be on the boards or logging in game to deal with annoying little scrubs who only care about themselves and not this community, the world, and the hard work the staff is putting in.
In closing...grow up, quit whining, and play nice or face the consequences.

Evil is almost always harder to play. Just try something evil in real life and you will see the problems almost instantly. Not to mention if you want muhahaha evil, it is best to have a DM helping use you along. Doing things likes this of course has their limitations, if you are known to be the evil guy next door, or course no one will want to deal with you. It is a sacrifice that you make because you enjoy roleplaying this aspect, and/or you really like being the problem for the good to deal with.
There is another type of evil I think most over look though. That is the greedy or self centered. I personally find this type a bit easier. For many years I had a character who was a NE mage. The basic concept was power hungry. He never would go against the law or do random "evil" deeds. Instead though he would keep in mind that he himself was the person to succeed. Which usually meant parting up with all the goodies, after all what better way to get power then go get rewards.
Right now we have limitations put on us as far as areas and limited interactions by the DM. It will be REALLY hard for evil to work well right now. In time this will surely get easier and add a nice flavor to the server. As others have said we need patience and common sense to prevail.

Perhaps Merla's greed and "thirst for destruction" doesn't guides her that much to start performing evil rituals with little children's bodies and such.Chaotic evil characters do whatever their greed, hatred, and lust for destruction drives them to do.
Being chaotic evil doesn't means a character is limited to such... hey, I think I'm understanding now. :p Thanks Bottesini.
