Last night at the inn we had a fun gathering party going. We had two new players join the server and were totally caught up RPing with the old timers. Some guy jumps into the server (I PMed you about it Wyv) and kills the level 1 guy out of nowhere. Then calls everyone bad names, tries to attack everyone and logs off.

I voted yes for the server and I still stand by my vote. If a person really looking for a PW RP world, they will come to the forums and read the rules to get the password, or fill out an application. The rest can go to other servers as far as I care.

Well at the time I didn't know exactly what was ok and what was not I figured someone just wanted more of the wolves to themselves and came up with a horrible RP reason to kill me "Grovel or die" but I am pretty easy going and did not even take note of their names and just found something else to do. Lord knows I was used to getting killed by the pigs at that point since I had not found a few of the starting areas and was trying to take them on way to early for a ill equiped bard =P

We will deal with such incidents as soon as we can.

Ok, let's get this thread back on track so I don't have to split it.

Wyvern wrote:Interesting how the votes were strongly towards the applications at the begininning, and are now just about level.

Interesting reading guys, let's hear from as many of you as possible.

(I am abstaining from voting btw, for obvious reasons.)
I can't claim I wouldn't have been on das1 had the server been passworded because Gomez told me about it. However, I think we have heard enough compelling arguments from those great assets to the community who indeed would have passed on Dasaria had it been passworded from the beginning. Yes, we are dealing with a certain level of asshattery and douchebaggery from a number of new entrants, however, there have also been plenty of great new additions as well.

If everyone here on these boards would be good citizens and speak to those who step out of line, it would go a long way. If someone runs past you without acknowledging that you have spoken to him, don't just mutter and bitch to your friends. Send a tell. TALK to him.

Also, perhaps forming an OOC player committee consisting of trusted veterans that could be the first line of screening when it comes to reports of asshattery would be prudent. This way only the most serious issues waste DM time and the minor ones are handled by experienced players who know how to speak to these misguided youths.

I had originally abstained and already clicked view so I can't vote officially but mark me down under no password.

It is a nice idea BR, BUT I have had to deal with numerous of the...ummmm less socially adept individuals since the server started. Their response to me was along the lines of "Who the hell do you think you are?" "If you are not a DM I dont have to listen to you" and my favorite so far "What are you, some kind of cop or something."

And this is to someone that most knew was the server reset fairy and a DM's wife.

Many of the individuals we seem to be dealing with will not listen, until it comes from a DMs mouth, and even then will only behave so long as the DM is in the vicinity.

I dont have an easy answer for this other than giving it time and having patience. The DM client will aid quite a bit, responsible players reporting and taking screenshots help as well. Remember when reporting the individuals that details are the key. The more information staff has the better they can deal with the problem.

I still cannot vote in this poll, because I still see the both sides of the story....the pros and cons of both,

As far as old characters policing the populace on my old NWN 1 server we had such a force we could give them a club as a dm the club was scripted with a conversation box of several options like teleporting someone to jail or kicking them off. It did not cdkey ban so they could log back in though so the better option was just to send them to jail then they would sit there until a dm felt like dealing with them or one of the player police could use a key to get them out of jail. If you did something like this you have to make sure it's not pick pocketable and preferably can't be traded as you don't want the clubs to fall into the wrong hands.

I think alot of what we are dealing with right now is growing pains (me being one of those). Das was and probally still is the only server in town, and the way I start looking for a server is to sort by number of players on. Perhaps in a few weeks or monthes when other servers get going things will calm down, or I hope so.

I have spoken with Jehannum, and we are leaning towards not locking down the server with a password and enforcing applications at this moment in time.

Building time is all too precious a commodity currently, and I believe processing applications will only hurt this. We will continue to adopt a firm approach to policing the problem players. I believe it will eventually calm down (once we get through the Christmas crowd that get the game) and as the server matures, hopefully we can evolve into, and become more immersed in, a more campaign-centric environment.

Thank you all very much for your input. Please feel free to coment as you see fit, either on the original post, or on this one. This thread shall remain open as long as people have something to say about it, in the knowledge that the decision, for now, has been made.

Oh man I have the feeling that week after christmas will be pretty insane.

Here's hoping the DM's make it through with their sanity intact.
I'm always right. I'm also a jerk. It's not my fault you can't get over the latter to see the former.

Hurray for Me!
