logging in (hopefully not repeat)--help?

Post by grad024 »

Hi,

After putting the PWC file in the PWC folder I still am unable to login from the server list in NWN2. The error message is "Server response timed out..." I get the same error when I try any PW server, even after putting their PWC files in the correct place.

I tried disabling the windows firewall, with no change.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is their some NWN2 setting that I need to chanage?

(If this is the 1x10^6th time you've read this question, I apologize...I did look at similar posts but none addressed my level of problem,i.e. can't login anywhere).

Possible idea..
Are you behind a router?
If so you might have to open/forward some ports.
If your on a campus the local it admin might have certain ports blocked also and so on..

nope, just my standard home DSL service...and seemingly no other content is blocked...if this hard drive could talk, lol.

not talking about blocking..
If you have DSL modem then you have a NAT or Firewall in it most likely.

can you post up the make and model and i'll link you to a page that will guide you through it.

whats the exact path you are putting the pwc file into?

I'm only asking because I've seen alot of people assume they were putting it in the right place when they aren't.
I'm always right. I'm also a jerk. It's not my fault you can't get over the latter to see the former.

c:documents and settings\'my name'\my documents\neverwinter nights 2\pwc

regarding the DSL router, if the problem is there i am not sure i have the technical know-how to fix it (i don't have any name-brand wireless router etc, just the DSL box that came with my service...the make is not printed on it)
So, i hope the problem is not there.....

I get a list of available servers so it seems that gamespy is kind of working...but can't connect to anything

Assuming you are putting the PWC file in the "My Documents/Neverwinter Nights 2/PWC" folder and NOT the "program files/atari/neverwinter nights 2/PWC" folder, it certainly sounds like a routing or port issue. If it was a PWC error, you would get an error along the lines of "cannot load module" not the server time out message.

Have you tried to direct connect to the server? The link is "cear.dasaria2.com"
It's just a game...

Silly question, but when you open the main NWN window, what does it say the version is on top left? Have you fully updated your client?

Some new DSL modems come with a built-in router, and that generally comes with a firewall... You might want to check under the modem box for any serial-looking strings of letters and numbers - that might identify a brandname version.

What you might want to do is to find a traceroute program (can't really recommend any as I haven't had problems requiring such tools in a while) and try to run it against the direct connect address - at least you'll be able to see if it is a local problem, or one of the hops along your connection route.

Can't figure out anything else to recommend at this point.

Also check the windows XP firewall. It will block NWN by default, if you have it enabled.
( Assuming you do not have any other programs that may block access like Norton Systemworks etc. )
