Dasarian Headwear Faux-Pas!

Post by dallbee »

All right, here's a weird one (with what is probably a very simple answer that totally eludes me):

I decided today to spend a little time browsing the various and sundry vendors of Cear's finest hats and headgear, trying on some new duds from the neck up.
Unfortunately, I seem to have run into a slight problem. All the hats I try on - be they coiffe or cowl, winged helmet or wizard's hat, cap or chapeau - all invariably end up looking exactly the same on my character:

Image

Tragic!
(That was supposed to be, by the way, a pot helmet. I tried five or six different hats/helmets/headgears, and each put the same thing on her head.)

I thought maybe there was some kind of snafu in my override directory, so I went and started up a local character creation game with the same head, same hair, same whole nine yards, and bought myself a pot helmet in there instead. It displayed just fine. I tired with several other helmets also, and each showed up as expected, according to their descriptions.

Is there something I'm not aware of? Has anyone experienced this before? Did I indeed bork up something in the multiplayer override that isn't affecting single-player games? Is that even possible?

Any help would be greatly appreciated; inquiring minds are dying to know.
And Ciarha's head is getting kinda chilly.

--D

(FYI, helmets on other PCs and NPCs on Dasaria show up just fine, as normal.)

It's a bug that came with the latest patch before they released a hotfix for it. Blame Obsidian.

Well, it's good to know it's not something *I* did.
Wasn't fixing the "plumed hat issue" one of the points of the hotfix, though? I assumed things would be back to appearing normally after both the players and the server upgraded.

Or does it not affect custom content that was made while the original, screwed up 1.04 patch was in place?

As we are talking about hats and helmets...

Is there any good reason why certain armors have a "hardcoded" helmet? I don't want to be forced to run around with an helmet just because i have a fullplate +2 or a crusaders plate  It should be the players decision whether he/she wants to wear an helmet or not. There are workarounds like wearing a custom helmet or an circlet. Running around in a scale helmet is better than with the one that comes with an crusader plate. But it is still just an workaround to me.

And let's not forget fake nose and eyeglasses!

Seriously, though, I would love to see more variety in headgear. By variety, I mean appearance and some mild magical effects. There's the one headband from the tower, and more items of that nature would be most welcome.

But I do understand the Devs had their hands full just developing the world and gear has to take a back seat for now.

There is more than one headband I have a very cool magical mask, that I happened to see in the store. I have never seen another like it and don't know where it drops, but it seems quite rare.

My chars hats change their look as supposed on both my chars since I joined. :)

Welcome Ryu I was a total newbie to this type of game when joined, it's great fun.

I am still learning how to Rp properly and if you like need a masterclass in Rping and want it to be fun; first talk to Pylia then later on when you find her in the Misty Inn give her some water thats of the Cordan Horse variety and your education and amusement begins

I have a lot to learn from her.
