I didn't need 14 levels of fighter with an assortment of Shadowdancer and Assassin—I had used the leverage achieved through good, solid roleplay, and had the loyalty of an entire Brigade, both PC and NPC.

You don't just need numbers to achieve power and influence on the server. It helps to have a good build, but it's not necessary.
LOL Good luck roleplaying your way past a grieving player-killer. Social power is nothing without physical power (which you would have being surrounded by a brigade of militiamen).

I see where you're coming from however. I tend to roleplay overly so... Regardless, it's still welcomed news that the expansion has been released IMO.

Something that epic levels only aggravate.

Huh?! The build is distinctively suited for a triclass. Assassin and Shadowdancer BABs advance at exactly the same rate, yet having a shadow along for a distraction is always handy. By level 40, you're shy by a sliver of the BAB that a level 40 fighter would have. However, I digress. It's the uniqueness of the character that would make it easy to roleplay, not the stats and numbers.

Oh come on! LOL That's only acceptable if the server allows for it. I'd be more likely to grieve someone with a character I just made, rather than someone I have put hundreds of hours into, possibly risking banning with that character! I feel it's the opposite. Once again, I find a lot of the character development comes through once higher levels are attained... Maybe that's not true here in the community, but other ones I have played on, there was never any problems attaining "epic" levels, either socially or with gameplay balance and mechanics.

I have NEVER in my career of the NWN server ever played a pure "Muscle" character.

I have always developed what people here are calling the "Social" character. I build my alliances, make my friends ( Who usually carry big sticks, and have big arms) and seed my plots (With assistance from the DM's).

A socially sound character with few levels is thrice as deadly as a character who is purely built around Stats and Numbers, in my opinion.

This is a moot point. Griefers are not tolerated and will be banned long before they could get epic levels under their belt.
It's just a game...

The more I Roleplay in Das2, the more I realise that Epic levels isn't the answer. I enjoyed playing Epic levels on my old NWN server, but that was a different time and place.

What Das2 needs is more conent, better emotes and more ways for people to customize and individualise their characters; and this will happen over time.

Think of it like this. Sure, that person might only be a level 2 wizard, but you know what, they've been around a long time and happen to be friends with that high-level sorcerer and a high-level paladin, oh, and the Paladin, he leads the Lightbringer Order of Paladins and the sorcerer, well, she's a founding member of the Kingseeker Knights, and those two happen to know...

Right, extra levels give more power and social contacts none... frankly, I'd be more scared of that level 2 wizard than any 40th level loner.

The point it though, what difference does it make to your 'muscle' if everyone else can be 40th? It's all relative. Your 40th character will still need to be as good a build as your 20th character would be if you're going from this perspective.

20 levels is much more rounded also, and to delve into different areas you have to make some sacrifices, I don't like the idea of an epic level character having the best of both worlds when multi-classing. Anyway, that's just me 2 cents, even though I dont play anymore. :P

Don't pay too much attention to Griffin Ironfist; he likes to stir things up wherever he goes. He's mostly harmless, though.

Anyway Griffin: after reading through your posts, I'm pretty much 100% sure I've got your ID right: S-b-S. Which was who I thought you were originally, but in the back of my mind I wondered if you weren't R-t-R. Those were the days...

..But what about a character who is built around maximizing his stats and numbers within the constraints and bounds of how he wishes to RP it? Cow meat will always be cow meat, but some cuts are lean, others are fatty, and some are the choicest.

I do agree that the social aspect will always get you further in a RP server however. Especially one where griefing is not tolerated.
