A wedding present from Rhode

Post by Mon-da-oth »

From what he had overheard Rhode realized that the couple was newlywed. He worked fast and donned the grooms blood stained hat and cloak before chewing on a piece of mushroom. Satisfied he pulled the velvet hat low over his face.

Silently he walked back along the moon light path that the groom had followed to relieve himself before consummating the marriage to his new bride. “How amusing” he thought “Not even a day of marriage and already widowed.” Rhodes lips curled up in an evil smile.

The cool night breeze blew back from the inland causing the lamps which outlined the gazebo to flicker with a happy little dance. Brightly colored silk cloth hung as curtains should the two lovers decide they needed more privacy from the night.

The bride lay stretched out still clothed in her wedding gown gazing out at the darkness of the ocean watching the low tide waves crash against the beach in bubbly foam before retreating back.

Rhode cringed at the beauty of it all waiting for the bride to turn to look for her groom. Several minutes passed before she finally turned. Rhode let out a low moan to help get her attention.

The bride started when she spotted Rhodes ghost-like appearance disguised as her husband. She placed a hand to her mouth and small shriek erupted from her lips. “Whity?” She questioned once she calmed enough.

Rhode motioned with his hard for her to follow and ran quietly part of the way down the path before turning to make sure she was following.

The bride had dragged one of the bed sheets over her shoulders and was following timidly along the path. Her lips trembled with fear and her face had paled with thoughts of horror at the ghostly image of her husband. “Whity, what has happened to you? Please you are scaring me.”

Still she followed the ghostly image along the dim path as it trailed into the edge of the forest. A low agonized moan hovered low to the ground just ahead of the bride and beyond the image of her husband.

The trail ended at Rhodes present to the newlyweds. He stood just off to the side as if to introduce the horrific scene to the bride. His ghostly-visage flickered in and out of the shadows along the edge of the path.

The bride screamed at the sight of her dying husband. His body was tied to a tree and a knotted rope was tied around his head as a gag against his groans of suffering. The small clearing was covered in his blood and his entrails lay in a pile at his feet. When he lifted his head weakly at the sounds of her screams his face was pale and bloodied.

She jumped back along the trail; her screams echoing against the forest trees and carried by the winds out to the ocean to be heard by the ships moored in deep anchorage just outside the harbor. Her gaze went from her nearly dead husband to the ghostly imposture.

The imposture waved his hands slightly and a low unintelligible sound came from his mouth just before he winked out of sight leaving the blood soaked velvet hat and cloak on the ground.
