How would the players feel about a character wipe?
Really, I wouldn`t like it. I play 2 chars atm and I would hate losing them.Esp Hagen has developed a lot during his time in Caer ( from a naive wannabe celebrity over a brutish loudmouth to a devout of Tharon),
I love him and his story and how he has established himself. I would not play a similar char anymore...it would be real loss.
For my other char (Silvester), he just began to establish ( at this point, thanks to all, who RPed with him, it`s not easy, I know) and I would hate doing it all again.
I would hate it, if all were of the same level for some time, though I could get rich selling tickets for dungeons ("no, sir group 1248 is still in the Failer house, please have some patience").

I'd wager that something major would have to compell the team to initiate a character wipe.
You are essentially wiping out history when you commit yourself to such an act. I believe the Development Team holds each and every character to a high regard, insofar as their ability to contribute to the evolution of Dasaria's story.
Eliminating thousands of characters, without extreme pressing concern, would be of great disservice to the community.
That is my take on the matter, at least.

I have no doubts whatsoever that a character wipe will not occur, but there is no harm in the discussion of a such a hypothetical eventuality, and the implications that would follow.Stormknife wrote:My take is that it's not happening. I think it's beneficial to the community that people understand why such a wipe would not occur, at the very least.
I personally wouldn't go for it were it a possibility (which I doubt it ever will be), there'd be a lot lost (obviously characters, but also factions, histories, and loads of other IC stuff) and essentially nothing gained in the short term, and nothing we didn't already have in the long term.
And I agree with Torquil - there's no harm in discussing it.

Can someone just lock this thread? It may not be harmful to discuss it. But it's entirely pointless.
I'm always right. I'm also a jerk. It's not my fault you can't get over the latter to see the former.

How would Das2 benefit from eliminating all of the storylines, character development, RP relationships, factions, and so on that have been built up during Beta? Seems like a smart move that the DMs have already stated "they are not considering a character wipe".
If everyone had to start over from scratch, a lot of players might find a reason to investigate other PWs, since they will have to start over again anyway. I know I am not particularly interested in doing Faliers, Bugbears, Goblins, Kalem, Monastery another few hundred times to get back the characters I have already built just so that I can finally enjoy the level 15+ content that is finally nearing completion.
If they wipe the characters, then they may as well wipe the private forums, too, since many (most?) of the characters using those will be gone or replaced by new ones.
How would it be beneficial to Das2 to have everyone be the same level, all competing for entrance to Falier's house, then Bugbears, then Kalem, then Monastery? We will have groups of 20 characters running through dungeons together. I am not sure about you, but I doubt there will be much RP value in such a setup.
Lastly, why would the player base here trust what the DMs say they will do when they have the top post in the forum (i.e., an announcement) saying there will not be a wipe, and then they implement one?
In every way it seems like a terrible idea. While it would be nice to have the flaws removed from my character builds, it would seriously detract from all the RP lore and storylines that have developed so far, and would make the end of BETA be like starting Das2 from scratch.
But just to be somewhat politic in this, I can certainly say there would be one good benefit to one of my characters from starting over: I could finally elect NOT to take Brew Potion.

Why is everyone so obsessed about this?
Not necessary, but if it happened, roll with it.

Look if a wipe happens it will not be decided by concil of the layman, it will be the DMs doing something that would make it needed to kill all the peoples. And if a wipe doesn't happen it will be because the DMs have said so.
LETS LET THIS DISCUSSION DIE.
