Happy Tenth Aniversary Dasaria 2!

Post by Rob »

Dasaria 2 was launched exactly two years ago on November 12, 2006. I’m feeling nostalgic, so I thought I’d share a bit about those early days.

If you remember, Neverwinter Nights 2 was released on November 1, 2006. Just a few days later, Dasaria 2 was released, making Dasaria 2 one of the first, if not the very first, persistent world for NWN2. It was certainly the first PW of any substance.

The initial release was so substantial because work on the module actually began on October 1, 2006. A team of seven builders and several writers worked feverishly on the module for six weeks using the pre-release toolset. Back then the team collaborated using Team Speak, and you could log on at any time of day or night and find someone working on the module. Most of the team actually took vacation time from their jobs to help build the module.

Those first six weeks produced the city of Cear. The name Cear being an anagram of Acre, the ancient city after which it was modeled. Can you see the resemblance?

If you haven't already, go here and listen to what Dasaria's founders Jehannum and Melthavion along with Falcon had to say about the origins of Dasaria 2 and what Dasaria means to them.

November also marks my six year anniversary with Dasaria. And it's been a hell of a good time.

That's my Dasarian story. Let's hear yours.

Hmm... I don't remember exactly when I first got NWN to play on Dasaria, and yes, that is the only reason I bought NWN was to play on Dasaria, having heard some epically fun stories about random things happening from Stormknife (Haxley to us old-timers). That was 3, maybe 4, years ago. I tried playing Das2 when it first came out, my main character, Phelan, was likely one of the first characters with ties to Das1 to be given the green light. Unfortunately, that was back in NWN2 really unstable days, sorcerer spell-swap bugs, and my computer needing a new video card, so I didn't play as much. I did, however, work on the wiki and kept up to date on the forums until I could manage to play stably.

So far, I'm happy to have left my little marks on the campaign, and hope to leave a couple more. I also must say I love how the Dasaria campaign is, in fact, dynamic, where we players can affect significant changes on the story and map of the world.

Now if only Dasaria had won the war. ;p

Two years! Seems odd to me that I've been around Das2 longer than I was Das1 (1-1/2 years). The online multi-player feature was something I was looking forward to trying when I purchased NWN. After completing the OC and expansions I began searching for a server I liked. After trying several I finally spawned in the Blue Boar, explored the village of Daris outside and just felt comfortable there. I've been around Dasaria since.

Wow, I hardly know how to respond to this thread. It's been a crazy, wonderful, busy, year and I'm blessed to have been exposed to so many wonderful minds and so much creative power. Vivat Dasaria! Here's to year three!

It's been an amazing experience that's for sure.

I actually came here mostly by chance after seeing a post about Dasaria on the NWN 2 forums. Getting to see the amazing stories and areas the DMs build along with interacting with the other players has been an immensely fun and role play building adventure for me.

Too many people deserve a thank you for me to list them all here. So I'll just say,

Thank you everyone for all the fun times I've had and will continue to have!

Happy anniversary, Dasaria!

This past June marked my third year on Dasaria. I first joined the server on June 5th, 2005 as a cleric named "Haru Nashi" in worship to Enlil, one of the forgotten Dasarian gods. At the time I was only eleven years old, so my roleplaying ability was rather scratchy compared to now, but nonetheless I was able to connect with the community. Many good times were had, but I won't list them here, as they are indeed too many to do so. Rather, I'll tip my metaphorical hat to the beginnings of my time on this server, and let nostalgia play its part.

On that note, as Ron said, it is hard to believe I've been a member of Dasaria 2 longer than I've been a member of Dasaria 1! My first character on this new server was Evelond Formos, a sun-elf wizard with little regard for the gods, save perhaps Farallis. Throughout Dasaria 2's first year, I expanded to playing five main characters, and having fun roleplaying with others on each of them. It's no secret that I'm not one of the fastest levellers on Dasaria, and as such, only one of said five characters exceeded level five, but amazing times were still had. There have been too many faces along the road that I've connected with to thank them all, so I must give a general thank you to all who took time to connect with Evelond, Sappy, a cannibalistic drow mage whose name I can't remember, Xune, Nicholas, John the Boomstick, Jame, and Cuhannan 005-634. You've made Dasaria worthwhile for me over three long years, and I hope you will join me in hoping to stay for many more.

That is my Dasarian story (although it could, perhaps, be better written; I blame any breaks in it on the fact that I'm not yet fully awake).

What's yours?

Thank you, Rob, for reminding us. I had thought Dasaria had started some time in October, but couldn't find a specific date for where, so I'd hoped someone would take the wheel and steer in the right direction. :-)

Hmm.. the oldest character file I have of Kell was made 1st of april 2005. So I must've been around back then. I honestly can't say, but windows doesn't lie... or does it. :|

I've been playing NWN1 for roughly 7 years now.. a friend of mine introduced me to Dungeons and Dragons when I was around 19 years old, and he recommended me playing NWN1 first for a change to get accustomed in an easy way to the maths.

I joined an online community that was very strict RP and stayed there for a year, perhaps two.. I can't remember for the life of me, heheh. But yeah, that one died. And that's when I found Dasaria. And I thought it was ****. Not nearly hardcore enough, not nearly enough roleplaying, yada.

4 months later, I got bored again (eh, anything to procastrinate your homework, I suppose) and I decided to check out Dasaria again. Which coincidentally was on the day that Brenna and Celdur got married ingame.

The rest of that story remains a vague blur of bad things happening ingame and on one occasion even a couple of bloody DM's threatening me, beating me up; they even dragged my sorry behind to court. :|

And -still- I'm here. So there -must- be something good about this place, heheh.

All attempts at being funny aside; it was a lovely ride.. Even though NWN2 let me down immensely and I never got the hang of it, I have much to account for concerning NWN1 and Dasaria1. I've had the pleasure to meet many talented, wonderful people, of whom today some still are some of my closest friends. Dasaria has taught me that roleplaying doesn't -need- to be hardcore and strict; it's a game and it should be about fun. It's taught me that you should -always- take heed to another persons feelings when you do something that might affect them, especially when you're not actually seeing face to face and the only way of communicating is through text-messages.

I actually flunked one year in college because of Dasaria. I was way too wrapped up in everything to be able to concentrate on anything at all outside the four walls I spent cooooountless hours gaming, gaming, gaming... writing stories, fantasizing with all you lovely people. And it was all worth it. I wouldn't change a thing if I could do it again, heheh.

It's been about 8 years now I think. Built a few areas. DMed a bit. Played a bit. Only ever got one character to level 20, that one took about 4 years I think.

Best times I think were with Shee Raa, Holly, this other Paladin of Girru I can't recall (!), that druid chick who had a hate for men (can't remember the name again), Anen in all his guises... lots of people really. Wormil was mental.

NwN2 came out, that sucked. Left for a while, popped back in. That's about it.

Haha, forgot about that podcast; min 44 - she get's a brain freeze. :D

I don't remember when exactly I joined Das 1 (it was shortly after Holly)but like a few others I decided to check it out after reading a review on it. When I first logged in I wasn't sure if I would be disappointed like so many other servers I had tried. I just threw together a simple Elven fighter named Myles and jumped in. I then realized that I didn't know any chat features and so went around the server mute for several days.

I had planned on creating another character but for some reason Myles grew on me.

I was very hesitant to party up with just one other person due to a bad experience a few days after joining Das 1. Someone asked me if I wanted to help in a quest and I joined up with him. I had no idea where he was taking me and he told me not to worry. He lead us off towards the Jy lin hideout where he ran around getting all the mobs trained together and then ran the whole mob towards me and then just disappeared.

I didn't let that keep me from playing, however and I stuck with the server to the end.

For Das 2 I decided to challenge myself a bit and created an evil character known as Rhode. Remembering all the awesome villians from Das 1 I wasn't sure I could pull this off as I had never played an evil character including during a PNP game and I wasn't sure how to be evil without pissing off everyone. Somehow I managed to pull it off and I think Rhode has made a story for himself in Das2.

I have a few other characters poking about in game which are much more pleasant than Rhode and I trust there will be many more to come.

In Christmas in 2002 I asked for NWN because I was really excited about the toolset. Sometime during the rest of that month or the next month, I decided to try out the online feature. I named my gamespy ID 'Richard Orwin' thinking that was going to be the name of my character online. I logged onto Dasaria, created Handur Ginesen, ran around aimlessly, and ended up being mauled by wolves outside of Daris. I didn't roleplay at all when I started out, but very gradually it grew on me. There were so many players that made the whole experience fun. I know that it's kind of weird to be so attached to a virtual world, but the entertainment value is worth it. :)

Deph, were you thinking of Kisanth and Sally?

I think I remember that Kisanth joined around the same time as I did, but he progressed much faster in levels. Remember the Suicide Kings?
