The main problem I have with "Red Dragon Disciple" is that its just "Red Dragon Disciple." Technically, under 3.5 rules, the PrC is "Dragon Disciple" and when you first take levels in it you select what type of Dragon (Blue, White, Red, Green, Copper, Silver, Bronze, Gold, etc.), and you gain a different breath weapon based on your choice and different energy resistance. It also makes more sense than just "Red Dragons," because the idea is that you have draconic blood you're awakening. Red Dragon's aren't exactly known for their shapeshifting or their social nature... they'd be more likely to eat or simply kill anyone than rape them. On the other hand, probably the most common interbreeding dragon would be the Silver, who is not only a shapeshifter from birth, but also very social and likes "mortals."

6 levels.

RDD spend 10 levels + whatever they waste on caster levels just to get the same bonuses as a Half-Red Dragon Template. Half-Dragon templates give the character a +4 ECL from what I remember.. and the character doesn't waste 10+ levels and miss out on high base attack bonus etc by taking a class that is melee oriented and only gets medium.

I really don't find RDD to be that overpowered. The only real spot they are extremely powerful might be versus a fire heavy area due to their 100% immunity.
Not entirely true. In PnP any Dragon Disciple gets wings, which in PnP means that they gain flight as a form of transit. Meanwhile the Half-Dragon template only gives wings to creature of Large size or larger, meaning your typical player character who's a medium or small creature doesn't gain those benefits. Further the Dragon Disciple for ten levels gains a d12 HD, while the Half-dragon has whatever class HD it has. Otherwise, you're right, they're practically identical.

Disallowing people to multiclass with just one or two levels takes away a lot of the fun in the game for a lot of people. That's the reason I'm against such a rule.

Yes, while all this is true isn't the real issue simply that the half dragon template isn't in NWN2 but the RDD class is? That said, personally I'm all for the RDD class and when I get back from Chicago the first thing I plan on doing when I log into Dasaria is make a RDD.

I think no single class should be excluded from the campaign. The thing I enjoy most about D&D is being able to completely customize your character the way you see him.

RDD is a strong melee class and I admit to playing one but If I was completely powergaming I would play a cleric. My RDD is hardly invincible and isn't nearly as easy to solo as a cleric/druid.

Tho a RDD may hit alittle stronger; a Cleric would hit nearly as well and heal through the RDD attacks.

There is no one class tho that is overpowering over all others. Even Clerics & Druids aren't capable of defeating every other class all the time...just most of the time hehe.

Bard 1/Paladin Minimal/RDD isn't scary? :-P

Lorcann - "BACON!"

Especially if it's a Drow. But then it is for the wrong reasons.

RDD Nerfed?

Post by dallbee »

Have there been any significant changes made to some of the prestige class abilities lately?

I ask because I'm playing a character template which requires some RDD levels - for my first time on this new server, I wanted something fairly easy to play while I learned the ropes, but which could also still hold its own and be of worth to a party.
A Dragon Disciple build was a natural choice.

However, upon taking my first level of RDD tonight, I noticed that in actual fact, the only thing I gained was the +1 natural armor bonus.
The RDD strength bonus and dragon breath abilities were not present on my character sheet (nor were their effects applied in-game), leading me to assume perhaps this class has been tweaked down on Dasaria.

Could anyone confirm this phenomenon?
If the only benefit of taking RDD is a paltry couple of AC points, then my character build seems rather frivolous.

RDD doesn't give all the stat bonuses and abilities up front, but rather spread over all 10 levels of the PrC. Dipping into it for a little boost won't work to well, its more of an all or nothing approach.

Correct me if im wrong but it always seems like Clerics are the ones that seem to call for nerfs the most(since they are so weak),whether it be potions, charms or multiclassing...guess we could all just be clerics and everything would be ok.

I've always felt that if you dont agree with the way someone plays then simply ignore them or dont group with them, its not my right to enforce my views upon others..just my lame opinion though.

You know.

I just had to post that again.

Seems rather accurate, really. :)

We highly encourage roleplay, but we are not a hard-core RP server by philosophy.

Characters who embrace the campaign both with roleplay and with class selection will be the most successful in terms of the campaign.

We support and encourage all types of play.

While a choice of class and alignment may affect how the DM's support your characters actions and endeavours, I do not think you will see much in the way of forced restrictions on classes.

We have always done all that we can for freedom-of-play so long as it doesnt have a major negative impact on the campaign.

Oh, whew. Good to know.
That's no problem...I'm not planning on front-loading, but rather taking all 10 levels of RDD anyway. I was just a little worried when the only thing that showed up was +1 Natural AC.
Should be an interesting time leveling up, if the progression's been changed like you say - every level will be like Christmas. "What bonuses did I get? Oooh! Oooh! What's in the box!?" :P

Anyway, thanks for the heads-up.
As long as we're on the topic...uh...have there been any changes to Frenzied Berseker? 5 levels of that are kind of another cornerstone of the abovementioned build.

(I know, I know...the first time out on any new server, I'm such a powergaming sod, I am. Once I get a vibe for the place, I tend to develop better characters with better backgrounds and less "uberness" involved to play as my "official" PCs.)

Really, a level 10 RDD is not all that close to being at the top of the uberness list no matter how much you min/max. So I would not worry about your guy being too powerful to have fun with.

RDD 10 builds are really only "uber" as Improved Knockdown specialists in a PvP setting. Otherwise they are solid, for sure, but crazy powerful like clerics or druids etc...

there is no issue here.

NWN2 has a balanced system for multiclassing. All of my seriously multiclassed chars have a real struggle in quests, this is becuase they are compromised in some way. So i get a free feat for taking on class oif something or rather, but yes i drop so BAB (BAB :+0 medium and low at first level)... my main class falls behind in its development etc. The chars that I have pure classed or at least only two classes are indeed the chars that i have no problem soloing quests.

I make complex char combinations with odd classe mixes precisely for indviduality and an original roleplay. I do this at the EXPENSE of powerful charcater.

If anything i find this unfortunately makes me a a fun char to RP, but i end up dependent on the one dimensional charge thru the quest char whom i need to be able to go questing BAH.

I SAY ban single classing, require weak characters that are interesting hahahah.
