the dms are trying to discourage the use of the dark races. Making content explicitly for them is counter to that aim.The_Four_Horsemen wrote:
This could make things interesting though. There could be an entire underdark city. Characters could spawn in either city according to race. They could fight each other or be forced to join forces against a greater danger etc etc.
Are you guys concened about some of the subraces?

I'm always right. I'm also a jerk. It's not my fault you can't get over the latter to see the former.

Actually you know what? Throw em a bone with some exclusive content.
Spawn them in a cave, but conveniently forget to create an exit.

The only thing wrong with the dark subraces is the power gamers who are going to abuse them to create unbalancing builds. Not that you need a subrace to do so given how unbalanced certain classes are... <cough>Cleric<cough> seriously, what's wrong with a Drow rogue? (Like my character.) No one's going to accuse that build of being overpowered.... or even "powered," but I find it fun and it offers good RP opportunities.
And anyone willing to grind out FedEx quests and wolves for 6,000 XP without the intention of power gaming deserves some kind of reward... like level 2.

I like the idea og capping special races at a certain level like this. But I also feel such races should be DM approved.Rob wrote:I'd set an experience cap at 190,000. Classes with level adjustments would not be able to achieve level 20.
I just ran a test. Here's the max level these races could obtain with a 190,000 xp cap....
19 - Aasimar
19 - Tiefling
18 - Grey Dwarf
18 - Drow
17 - Deep Gnome
EDIT: Had the Drow ECL wrong.
Some mornings it doesn't seem worth it to gnaw through the leather straps..
Like others i dont agree a whole city should be created for races in question. But maybe an outpost where resources are limited (but still an area everyone can use). Playing most of the dark races there should be alot of RPing that would keep them from the major population.The_Four_Horsemen wrote:This could make things interesting though. What bothers me is the fact that we have droves of drow and tieflings running around an oppressive, human based tyrannical empire that I don't think would hesitate in a second to mistreat and even remove said subraces from their civilized society.
The issue for me is campaign continuity, in conjunction with the 'Drizzt effect'. Bleh.
I like this idea, if things have to go that way.Greensleeves wrote:- If an exp cap is implemented without a character wipe, players should have the option to have their current exp and gear transferred to a new character with the same name, but a more 'acceptable' race.
After the newness of the game wears off and some help from RPing situations. Alot of the dark races i am sure will move on, unless they are hardcore RPer's that enjoy the added difficulty and diversity that playing those races brings.
Exp. cap/ reduce spell resistance/..... and a few other suggestions i am not opposed to. Alot of fun playing something different and bring a new aspect to lots of situations. I have had alot of fun playing characters that never got above lvl 10 in a world of lvl 20-40 characters (NWN1). It has alot to do with interaction in the surroundings you are in (and the people). It sucks to be killed by a power hungry numbers guy that rarely RP. But in the past i have noticed they are the ones you start seeing less and less of or get on a most wanted list (which leads to seeing less of them).
I would like to see someone RPing a dark race and doing it well after the server is out of beta testing. I dont want to see half the population playing those races (if that happens i know of one drow that will not be seen again). But a few would be good.
"Watch what you do, you never know who else is watching"
I think the point is the overwhelming percentage of the on-line presence of the "rare" races that is an issue...
Mind, I'm not helping with my svirf
At least not yet.
Drow rogue + darkness = sneak attack on demand = much pain, especially when you have a total of one-hit hit point pool
"The only good drow is a dead, quartered, burned, ashes used as a fertilizer to grow hay for farm animals, digested, turned into handily portable fuel for the poorest, burned, tossed in the garden, reincarnated as a strawberry drow"
Paraphrased authentic svirfneblin saying. Except for hay, farm animals, and strawberries.

Dasaria Staff: Make the right choice for the campaign.
Thas what makes me chuckle when I see things like this. If anyone read enough and found out about the campaign setting, and the wishes expressed by the people generating this great campaign for us to participate in, it would be pretty clear it's human focused. I would be surprised if time and effort was put into something to satisfy a few that digress from the main thrust of things, that could be spent developing what is wanted by many more who are willing to engage as jeh Dev's wanted.
oo, poignant slip of the finger. That was meant to be 'the dev's'
i don't think any ecl race should be limited in their levels by their ecl modifier, and thus i agree with the 6th choice
i just started playing nwn2 online and i was already thrown out of the apothecary shop cuz the owner didn't like my drow :p was kinda funny
but if the level cap goes in, i think i'll just play a base class then...no roleplaying reason could keep me from having a "complete" character

How about equipment that is race restricted ie cannot be used by race X Y and Z that is an improvement on the standard available. This could be armour, amulets or whatever. Afterall if humans are supposed to be the pre-eminent race then there will be more and better equipment available for them to use. For the drow for EG they will have left most of their things behind when they came to the surface (depending on the mythos of drow in Dasaria) and so will have to make do with lesser items as something crafted for a human will not fit them or maybe the magic doesn't resonate well with non humans so they cannot use it. Whatever the reasoning it can be done to make things more balanced in the endgame without limiting levels of the ECL races.
