I have noticed some suddenly switching to high level canite characters when I enter the OLM without anonymous enabled.
I take issue with that. I can count the number of times on one hand that I personally have engaged in pvp on the olm that I have no doubt that it isn't much greater than that for the faction. People in the canite faction know better than this, and if someone did actually do that, they should know better. tell me who, and I will take care of it.

I agree with anon. They don't attack you without warring you, they prefer first to RP :D then to kill you

Alright, I'll concede that my conclusion was rather hasty. I hid the times this happened so there was never a resulting battle.
I apologize for any offense my hasty conclusion caused.

Still, I do believe my suggestions are valid.

All PvP should be prepped with RP prior to an engagement, giving both sides a chance to come up with a way to RP ones way out of the situation if PvP is undesirable.
If it is not you can, simply put, report the mischief to the Das team. Players have been banned from the server for that kind of ill-conduct. It is bad behavior and does not mix well with the spirit of Dasaria.

The Canites are part of the Dasarian world just as much as any other faction though, I would like to encourage interaction in general with us, regardless of PvP or not.
Hiding away, avoiding encounters wont lead anywhere but one less encounter between players. Interaction between players is what built Das from the start and will most likely continue to be te most powerful drive behind this server.
If you are honestly worried that an enemy will "metagame-hunt" you consider that we are all protected by the server rules and the way Das is meant to be played.

Anyone breaking those rules would not be welcomed in the Canite faction and I belive the same goes for other factions as well.

Some ideas:

1.) There is really very little need for location to be announced, I think most people ask in a tell before they barge in and hope to group anyway.
If location is removed, then there's probably no need for an anonymous toggle and it could be removed.
This change would still let people see levels and LFG status, which is really what you need to form groups.

2.) Another idea is to remove the persistance of the toggle, I'm sure some just forget to remove anonymous after completing whatever it was they needed it for.
1) I think this is just a matter of taste. I prefer to be able to see if there is a group of people somewhere without sending tells. Sometimes the tells get lost in a conversation or people just don't care to respond and you have no way knowing which it is... then I feel annoying if I send another tell. Also I think it can feel more organic to just show up. This really makes it possible for people to gather somewhere other than North Cear and still be found. And while this tool COULD be exploited rather easily... I KNOW the response by the staff would put a quick end to it, so I do not worry. Like I said, I think it is just a matter of taste between this tool and tells :-)

2) I agree, but I think it would be more worthwhile for the smarty-pants world builder guys to work on something else, like making new dungeons with which to kill me or whatever tickles their evil fancy.

I too have had occations where I "accidentally" run into a group of adventurers thanks to the scrying tool, so I do see your point. It's just that it's pretty rare for this to be better than just sending a tell.

I was just bringing up some alternatives to scrapping the system completely as was suggested in the original post.
Giving up a bit of functionality is better than giving up everything. Besides, I don't necessarily agree that encouraging people to gather in North Cear is bad. It's great for new players to see a bit of life around the starting area.

This was a problem before the scry tool and I doubt the tool has fixed this. It has however, enabled one to log in, see where people are and their levels and decide to take a chance and send them a tell to form up in a party. Prior to this most just logged in, waited a moment or two and then logged out after not seeing anyone in North Cear.

You can always opt out. My issue was EVERYBODY opting out.

The purpose of the tool, the purpose of the SERVER is for people to find each other and RP.

If I log in the server again and find only 2 of 11 players visible in the scry, I'm just going to throw up my hands in exasperation and remove it. What's the point?

People lobbied for this because they claimed it would make it easier to form parties and ~70% it seems have, despite what they told us, permanently opted out.

I'll be very sorry to admit that so far it looks like those who said it would only be used for metagaming and stalking and would contribute nothing were right and that I was in the wrong for supporting it.
I actually find the anonymity feature to be very useful. If I go out into the battlegrounds, I set myself to anonymous. The reason I do this is because if someone finds me, I wish them to find me, not go "Oh, look, he's over there, lets prepare an attack for him because we know where he is."

That said, I also use it for the exact opposite reason. I also use it to find someone to RP with, if I'm in the mood, and there aren't a lot of people standing around.

For me, it is a tool. I don't want hammers that demand that I use them, when I'm busy fixing my plumbing. If anonymity being used, or not used, in any fashion is a problem, I'd ask that it be taken out, so that its not an issue I have to deal with. Otherwise, I love it. It helps me connect up with people when I need to, and it lets others find me for RP, when I'm around in the world at large. When I jump into an area where PvP is one of the main focuses, it also lets me vanish, unless someone actually does the work to find me.

Now, I'm aware some people might have a problem with the fact that I turn on anonymous in the OLM. I don't know of anyone specific, and even if I did, finger pointing rarely solves anything, so I will leave it at this: I've been playing since you couldn't get an entire party through a transition without half of them crashing. We didn't have KEMO Scry then, and we didn't for a good long while after that. If we lived with not being able to find people at will then, we can live with it now. This is a tool, a helpful device, and boon, not a requirement.

I apologize if in this, I offended anyone, but that is how I see it, and feel being up front would accomplish more, if anything is to be accomplished or discussed.

And you had to walk up hill both ways to school in snow and your bare feet! Sorry, that was all I could think of when I read that line 8)
