Ahh... I forgot about Jenna, she was definitely noteworthy.
Sin G'elle was a sorcerer too, I think. Bastard.
I don't know either way either, so we'll leave him out of this. ;)
Celadrith was a sorcerer. Me lil' waifey. *loves to death*
She was the one I immediately thought of as evil.
Heaven was a sorcerer. She wasn't evil nor good alligned, but she made a good impression to me =)
As much as I loved Heaven's character, I don't think she counts as "noteworthy," to be fair. That said, Falson was working on redeeming her, Nergal's Nosehairs, and made a lot of progress at times. It always seemed she was in a tug of war between good and evil, to be fair to her, with Kell and a few others pulling towards evil, and Falson and others pulling towards the good, it made an interesting dynamic.
It's just a different way of playing. And a matter of perspective. People who prefer wizards don't understand sorcerers, and the other way around. Or barely do. For the same reasons that Wizards and Sorcerers have been continuing the same discussion for ages.. =)

That tagline is written from a wizards point of view. It -should- irk sorcerers. It's an insult.
On this, we agree completely. That being said, I notice it always seems to be the wizards who are insulting on the boards. ;) The sorcerers seem to take a live and let live approach to this entire mystery of the arcane. ;p

Well.

Heaven's last known alignment was Chaotic Neutral.

But yes, she was an evil witch. A very evil witch.

She was so misunderstood.. *fake sob* ..and a good example of 'insane'.

Haxley kept her grounded is all, which is why the good stayed at all.
Otherwise, Kell and Celadrith would have completely corrupted her.

Hey, Hax kept her grounded, but there were quite a few folks constantly trying to redeem her, give us some credit.

It just would never take, she was too crazy...

Truth.

I like to think her being trapped on the Planes with Haxley is poetic justice, however. Hehe.

Heh. I'm glad to have gotten such a rise out of some people.

It was all in good fun everyone, and I don't actually hate sorcerors - in fact, I play them. :D

EDIT: Too bad I didn't learn the benefit of paragraphs of that length before I wrote The Arcanist - then someone may have actually read it :P

All characters are noteworthy, aslong as there is someone who will be remembering them. They all have their specials, their flaws, their loves and their hatreds. And none is better then the other, simply because they didn't so anything that made them stand out.

I think Heaven was wonderful. She didn't save Dragons' watch and she didn't kill heaps of Redboots. But she was wonderful. I remember her. And a lot others.

Noteworthy my rear. You don't have to be a hero to be remembered.

I know you probably didn't mean it like that Pere. I just hate hearing it =) And I love making sure people understand that they make a difference.

Trust me, Kim, I agree with you completely. Its depends on the scale of the impact the character makes, I guess. If you create a character that truly affects the way another character develops and "lives" in the world, then you are noteworthy.

There are reasons why I literally cried on the day Aldinah Jora died. Not many people remember her, but I and Falson always will, she, more than any other single character, quite literally shaped what Falson became. Did she change the face of Dasaria? No. She merely changed the heart of one simple sorcerer.

So yeah, I get what you're saying, I was speaking in a geo-political sense, but in many ways, you are right.

Agree.

and a character doesn't have to be uber-zomg-eat Balors-for-breakfast level 20 power build to make an impact. On my old server we had a level 2 stinky gnome that offended a priestess by letting rip in the marketplace, making her throw up. The priestess just happened to be accompanied by her secret lover (the most intimidating warrior on the server) who was the leader of a secret faction looking to topple the government. He slapped the gnome and accidentally killed him. This lead to a trial, an escape from prison, a huge manhunt and ultimately the perma-death of this character.

Not a bad days work for a very well roleplayed level 2 character, who just destroyed months of IC planning and a future DM'ed event of revolution and regime change

Indeed it was, but it is the unpredictable human element that is what makes PW's so great...for example, like Minuvas falling in love.

That's because wizards are jealous to sorcs. It makes them mad to think of all the long nights spent on studying old tomes to get one damn spell cast right, and then they see someone who has never studied the art to do the exact same spell easily like it was a fun game for him. Ofcourse it angers wizards to see how the science and art they practice so hard is used to childish games by sorcerers, who on top of that can cast the same spells better than the wizards. Sorcerers on the other hand are too busy having fun with their powers to actually even note the whining wizards.

I honestly have never had problems with sorcerors in PvP - they may be better in theory according to some, but I've found that in practice their high casts amount to nothing critical. What good are a large chunk of your casts invested into a buff that may become redundant? Or an offensive spell that may not work against a certain enemy? What good are six casts of a spell when one would do? Not to say sorcerors are inferior, but what people consider advantages, others might consider disadvantages.

I can see sorcerors being better as "nuke casters" in PvE situations, but the versatility of the wizard can equate to or supersede them in that role anyway. I mean, if you've ever partied with me, you know I can fit nearly any conceivable arcane caster role.

That being said, I consider them equally powerful, they both have advantages and disadvantages, most of which are subjective, but they are still quite similar in the end. I am however determined to prove that sorcerors have no reason to feel superior to wizards. I think I'll prove that IC given time, and I'm sure I've already demonstrated it to some.

EDIT: And I never quite got the whole apparent jealousy thing. Like I said in my original post, there's a great deal of satisfaction in working hard and persevering to achieve something, rather than having it handed to you. I guess this stems more from OOC thinking than IC, but there's a minimum level of thinking that should go into it, which leads me to believe many people really haven't considered that the archetypal sorceror mindset is fairly childish in its shortsightedness.

In PvP wizards, if they know who they are fighting, will always win over a sorcerer. This is because they can customize their spell list against an opponent. However, if the situation suddenly changes on a wizard, then things get rough. A sorcerer in PvP always has to work with that they have, so they are more adaptable to changing situations than a wizard, but they can't become focused against a certain enemy.

In PvE sorcerers huge numbers of spells per day become an edge. Not so much in common hunting, but in DM events and large scale battles. If you manage your spells wisely as a sorcerer, you can actually last so long that it will be the fighters who are requesting rest time. Wizards can't do this as well. As to buffing, yes there are certain buffs that become worthless as you level, but sorcs are allowed to switch out spells as they advance for different ones, this, of course, allows them to get rid of such dead weight. When it comes to buffing a party, sorcs are better for general buffs, since many will pick up those general buffs and can cast them a huge number of times. A wizard can have specialized buffs, but often has to be careful not to overuse the buffs lest they run out of normal spells to cast.

Its a six in one half dozen in the other situation, though I'd say that generally wizards are more powerful than sorcerers, plus they get bonus feats, a bit of icing on the cake.

As to the sorcerer mindset, I'm going to disagree, sorcerers are no more childish in their outlook than a wizard is. Sorcerers can have as much foresight or understanding as wizards (that's a function of Wisdom, not Int.), sure they might not make plans as good as a wizard, but there is an old saying "the best laid plans of orcs and men..."

Hehe...this is so true. I used to think Sorceror's were the poor man's wizard until saw a Sorceror save our high level party from total annihilation once by literally letting rip with everything he had. Using the military term it was "Fire Mission all available"! The aftermath was just atomised enemies and the occaisional bit of charred meat :)
