Childhood sentiments?

Robotech, Voltron, Gi Joe were the cartoons I remember games were tank, asteroids, circus, later on we upgraded and it was karate champ and Ikari warriors. Music I remember was your basic Aerosmith, AC/DC, Michael Jackson, Joan Jett.

Dear lord please don't bring the Spice girls back the were dreadful enough the first round, Plus shouldn'd they be called the gold digging mums now?

Kell, my child hood hmmm. I'm sure no really wants to hear about that but you asked. Always Hated Girl Bands and Boy Bands under the pop genre except I think Rachel Stevens can actually sing and is hot.

Age 11 - 13, drinking etc in pubs and at parties in Paris - music; Soup Dragons, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Guns N Roses, pop stuff and some rap.

Age 13 - 16, Attended an Oxford mixed Boarding school - escaped to illegal and legal raves, bit of DJing (I suck at DJing now lol), pubs, parties etc and when back home in Paris for holidays did the same with different groups of people. Music; Hardcore raving, jungle, Drum N Bass, some minor occurances of rap played by others. Dreamscape, Fantazia, Obsession, Helta Skelta etc etc etc.

Age 16. Went to an American School in Paris for 6 months - Clubbing, parting lavish apartments etc. House, trance techno, electronic e.g. Daft Punk etc.

Age 16 - 20 Moved back to England - clubbing more frequently and going down various pubs regularly, includding pub crawls etc. Music Hardcore rave, Hard house, trance, house, dance and some Indie Music at Fat Tuesdays for students; Utopia Reading.

I think thats pretty much covered the basics.

Edit forgot to say first pc I played a gae on was a ZX Spectrum with a tape loader.

Age 12 or so: Started with Hard Rock like AC/DC or ZZ Top
Age 14/15: Started with a bit of Punk Rock and Hardcore. Still listened a lot of Hard Rock
Age 16/17: More Punk Rock (Ramones, Spermbirds), Harcore (Bad Brains) and some Heavy Metall
Age 18/19: Discovered Industrial, especially Nine Inch Nails

Girl bands, boy groups? Micheal Jackson? What the hell? Where is my pump gun?

Though is must admit Thriller and some a few other other things Jackson made were not really bad.

My very first cassette tape I asked for was the Bangles. I hated New Kids on the Block. (My best friend was a fan.) I used to sing along with Joan Jett and Kiss and Red Red Wine. I remember it was a big deal when we finally got a VCR. I enjoyed Skate Country and trying to play Pac Man and Pole Position. Michael Jackson was always on the radio. I liked Little Red Corvette and it drove my mom crazy. I hated being made to wear ruffles or the color pink.

Those are in no particular order.

Ahh... sweet memories. Though no one's gonna read this I enjoyed just typing it out!

Early Days -- Bugs Bunny, need I say more?

Middle School -- Atari 2600, Squeeze, Stray Cats, Better off Dead, Ferris Bueller, Breakfast Club, and of course plenty of D&D

Jr. High -- Cure, Ministry, Big Black, English Beat, Husker Du, (Edit: The Smiths), Prez. Reagan is shot, my first regular job, crazy hormones, the space shuttle blowing up, Mutual Assured Destruction, "Just say No," 300 baud modems, 2600 magazine, Star Frontiers

High School (early) -- Black Flag, Bad Religion, Agent Orange, Pixies, anything on else 4AD, Evil Dead 2, skateboards!, my 16 yo girlfriend with a driver's license, the Berlin wall coming down, learning to play and starting a band, and of course girls girls girls

High School (late) -- Smoking, Social Distortion (still love 'em), Living End, Green Day, Operation Ivy, being really perplexed and miffed at the sudden popularity of grunge and "alternative" music and it's becoming stadium rock, Prez. Bush #1 invades Iraq #1, Nintendo, the SAT, working at the bookstore, those glorious last summer before college

I thought Susanna Hoffs was talented (and I also played a Rickenbacker for a long while) I really liked the Bangle's cover of Hazy Shade of Winter.

transformers, thundercats, ulysees, dungeons&dragons: cartoons of choice.
Vailla Ice was the first tape single I bought, ghostbusters soundtrack the first vinyl.
Acorn electron the first family computer
Lost boys, breakfast club (don't youuuuuuu, fogret about me, don't don't don't don't), weird science, gleaming the cube etc
grunge, indie, Drum n bass, metal. And of course floyd and the Doors et al.
I woulda spiced up Baby and Sporty's worlds for them had they but asked - but thats about as far as the relationship went.
Punt & dennis, the Mary Whitehouse experience, men behaving badly, fry&laurie, smith&jones, black adder etc (more early teens than childhood for these)

Opening my first copy of DnD in the blue box with much excitement and anticipation only to be disappointed and confused because I couldn't figure out at first which booklet was the rule set nor where the hell the dice were that the books talked about and trying to figure out what the heck the printed laminated sheet of oddly marked numbers were.

When I was very young, I really enjoyed Lego, I had a veritable legion of armed lego soldiers (and some of the most convoluted battles of all time: lego men against jedis and the like). I also had plastic WW2 army men in great abundance.

Some of the earliest television shows/movies I really liked (and can remember) were: the Chronicles of Narnia BBC series (Released on the year I was born), Star Wars, the really old X-Men cartoon (with the awesome theme), Spiderman (again, the old-ish cartoon version) and a Jim Henson show known as "The Storyteller". These all hold a fair bit of nostalgia with me.

And something which might sound odd - but the smell of like, pine trees and pine needles. We had a large property with acres of pine forest, and some of the best walking tracks ever. Spent a lot of time wandering around and climbing trees, and almost (but not quite) getting bitten by snakes. The smell of pine needles reminds me about all that.

EDIT: Oh and how could I forget: Jurassic Park. I saw that at the cinemas when I was a kid, and to this day I really enjoy that movie.

I'll tell you what, Kim, you can say what you want, but I am into PoshSpice/VictoriaBeckham anyday....

I mean, I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want... if you get my drift... hehehehehe.... But Posh Spice? Very doable. The rest of the spice girls... not so much. But hehehe yeah, in general, HS was fun.

To this day, I still don't understand why everyone was so down on HS. I guess that, at the time, it was cool to be down on HS. Being down on HS was like an indication that you were cooler than HS, that you had allready moved beyond HS and into the next stage, presumeable the cooler one (one more reason why I am not as cool as they are???)

I guess I am happy to live in the moment. Perhaps my inability to live elsewhere means I will never be as "cool" as the people who (pretend they) are a whole level beyond me? I am not going to pretend to understand this "coolness" mess.

I am happy and that is good enough for me :) Well..... "I seem to have strayed from my origional point"....

Childhood sentiments...

Not the tigers, but the 50 smaller robots, helicoptors and things Now THAT, is some hard-core 1980s crap. I am suprised there isn't a movie yet. A Voltron movie with michael Bey would CLEAN UP. I esp liked the guy who said "And I'll form the head"... Also He-man was also pretty awesome, and the thundercats were not all bad, as far as TV culture goes.

Mainly I remember the other people in my life. I hope they are all well!

I played the red box edition, which I thought was very cool, although I still like 2nd edition best (though I will credit 3rd edition where it is due). We used to play at swin meets (swimming competitions that lasted 7+ hours, ideal for D&D).

I remember writing in my dairy (yes, actually one made of paper) that I was afraid he was going to hit Europe too, since it was in the middle of it. I was 9 years old, I don't think I really understood it back then ;p What were those times like? Like it is now, just another day and just another attack?

How about the Berlin Wall coming down. What influences did it have on the rest of the world? How did the youth respond to it, what did your parents say (if you were still living with them and know their response)?

Aww hell yeah, that one was -good-, I loved the movie. Though I didn't see it when it got out back then, that's too long ago

I saw a Bollywood version of Thriller recently. Must admit; the original one is better

Oh and how could I forget: Jurassic Park

YEAH! Man that was one scary movie. I remember seeing it the first time on a slumberparty with 6 friends of mine. We were all scared witless and screaming like the little girls we were, heheh. After that we watched Adams Family Values, because it was lighter and funny. But Jurassic Park.. wow.. Expecially when that man gets pulled into that cage 0.o Horror! Shock!

My Dad was still in charge of the radio growing up, so most of my musical memories are of what would now be called easy listening, now that I'm a little older I'll even go so far as to say it's not that bad.

Top Cat and Yogi Bear were my two TV role models (they still are to be honest) , oh and Batman (you know the Adam West one). And for a treat on Thursday nights Dad would let me stay up to watch Magnum PI, in those days I really thought my Mum didn't know

But most of my childhood memories are of time spent on the beach or cycling around, without a helmet , or a cellphone, and with my parents no wiser where I was than I was out n' about.

Wish I could feel confident my kids will be able to have the same freedom and experiences growing up.
