Tharon quest tweaks.

Didn't Deathgate come after Dragonlance? Anyway, good guess!Spider wrote:The Deathgate Cycle.
That particular quote is a bastardization of an old Sermon having to do with Death, I believe.
D&D Trivia Time
The first Dragonlance novel (there are now more than 190 titles!), Dragons of Autumn Twilight was actual based on an AD&D module written by Hickman, Dragons of Despair. Hickman was actually "famous" as a module writer long before he got into the business of writing novels, among his creations, the Ravenloft property (I'm sure TSR paid him in twizzlers for that one)*, and the most-excellent Desert of Desolation series, mention not to exclude:

Fortunately (or unfortunately) for you, the tomb of our Martek is a little easier to find!
* Apparently he sold it to TSR when he was hired in order to pay for his moving expenses

Ah, ok, well maybe in the future I'll be able to discover the wonders of crafting materials that are slightly shinier than the rest.DM Wired wrote:It's just dice rolling my friend.Elvith wrote:Just one thing, the high level crafting drop at the end has consistantly given me worse loot then even normal crafting drops. My character's alignment is getting really messed up from this quest. There needs to be a neutral or evil option in the dialogue so that we can keep our alignment axis where we want.
Amnon Meshullam - Elven EK and Master Craftsman | Bobzim Moorman - Human Bard | Luteus del Calochortus - Human Pirate | Dawg Faolan - Svirfneblin Cleric | Phelan Shumani - Human Druid | Joog Atu Zaban - Human EK
In addition to good and evil characters, there are also neutral characters. And there has never been a time on Das2 that content has been alignment restricted.Elvith wrote:Maybe an evil character just wouldn't feel like helping tharonites out in this case.
Do you mean to recommend by this comment that the new high-level content should be alignment restricted? Only good aligned characters (or those who will soon be aligned good due to that being the only choice)? Seems like an odd way to encourage players of high-level neutral characters to keep enjoying the content.
I don't play any good aligned characters. Or evil ones for that matter. But I suppose if it takes a few months for the new "evil aligned" content to show up, all of my characters will soon be good-aligned, if Wired decides to follow your suggestion.
Please add an option for those of us who prefer to play other than good aligned characters to still enjoy the new area. If that's not possible, please mention it on this thread so that it's clear.

Surely the involvement of a powerful artifact should spark the interest of a villain. There is also a promise of a reward in the end for the mercenary types.Elvith wrote:Maybe an evil character just wouldn't feel like helping tharonites out in this case.
Maybe add an evil option to keep the artifact, or try to drain some of it's power for parties that have spellcasters with them (think about the culnul ritual below falier's house). The good option would maybe give you a bit more xp in turn.
Or maybe there would be another source to get the quest, and also another source to return the artifact to. A source that pays lets say four times the gold reward that the tharonites pay.
Those were just ideas though, i've only been through the quest once before the tweaks so i don't know if something like that already exists. Messed up my computer a little and cant play NWN2 anymore
Insanity has been kind to me, but no longer.

Yesterday, I tried the Tharon quest the first time. I played Paddy, who is lvl 15 and was the lowest lvl of our party(there were four of us). I was pretty curious about the quest, as I 've heard a lot rumors about it. As we entered the first room ... it took the guardians half a minute to wipe out our whole party. Two of us managed to survive near death because they could HIPS to safety. So we tried it again, more buffs, a different tactical approach. After some more deaths we even managed to clear the first room, but got slaughtered again as we opened the next door. After that we decided to leave, because it just seemed impossible to us.
What did we do wrong?
Yes, we used a wide variety of buffs (most of them got stripped down pretty quickly)
Yes, we tried differetn tactical approaches (like using doorways to our advantage for example)
I think the problem was none of our builds were -really- powerful, don't get me wrong they weren't especially gimpy as well, just not powerful enough to survive there.
*sigh*
... and Paddy is the most powerful char I ever did (build-wise) on Dasaria, all others a way more gimpy, due to RP reasons and a general dislike for Powerbuilds. So all other chars I have will have an even harder time there. Don't get me wrong, I will still try to do the quest in the future. I would just like to see it more tailored towards RP or just usual builds, because now it seems to be tailored towards very powerful builds.
Sorry if this comes over like whining, just thought I'd post my feedback.

edit: sympathy in response goes to Kikkelipoika

As a participant in Paddy's massacure, I'd have to say that I was surprised. We had a party of 4 15+ characters. However, they consisted of Paddy (fighter 15?), Two rogue builds (16+ level) and one cleric (16).
We all got wiped out rather quickly, twice as Stoned-raider indicated using a variety of tactics and buff spells. A tank would have helped, but I doubt the outcome would have been much different.
I had done the temple quest once before with a similar party, and although it was difficult, made it through.
It seems to me that it has definitely gotten harder. Not that this is a bad thing, but you might want to recommend the levels for this quest more in the 17+ range party than 14 – 18 as currently suggested.

I generally agree, though I also feel a good DM will know how difficult their own dungeon is by observing the players and taking into account positive feedback, which is a gradual process and does take time and commitment. Warning: Small rant ahead.Tslisher wrote:It seems to me that it has definitely gotten harder. As for players who go into a new dungeon and expect to beat it in a couple of weeks, please be more considerate to the DMs who spend the time to build a place for us to play, and have some respect for the integrity of the Dasarian server. It is a Persistent World story server for heroes of time-tested devotion for good or evil, not a Powergamer Wannabe server for action-packed blooper reels.
This suggestion could include taking your beatings like men when those treasure chests deprive you of your glorious power essence, and sucking up those tears because helping out goodly priests is giving your evil alignment a bad rep.
While critiquing can be helpful to our DMs, remember that they're people too. And frankly, whining to the DMs is starting to get annoying, and close to the point of rudeness. So have some fun, and for the love of Das have some dignity.
