Allarick was was originally created in the context of the characters that proceeded him in the character bios thread. There were several dark backstories so I was inspired to create someone who'd sprung from less-tortured roots, someone who'd chosen his path out of freedom rather than having been forced onto it.
At the same time I felt that this person was going to have to have some sort of roguish streak in order or to be living on his own terms in the midst (or rather on the periphery) of an evil/totalitarian society; exist simultaneously within and without it. Other than that he's inspired by (perhaps obviously) other characters in the human Ranger/Guardian archetype such as Strider (when still thought to be Strider) in LotR and of course, Robin Hood, your Harper Agents and what have you.

Kite Hoshi - The original concept was created for a completely different fantasy world in 2000. The concept was revamped in a recent pen and paper campaign where "Hoshin Kite" is a Fire Shugenja (Oriental Adventures campaign, named "Kazahon"). She has an obsession with "fire is pretty" and is slightly absent-minded as well. In the pen and paper campaign the DM and I created a feat for her called "Chaotic Progeny" where she has a problem controlling her magic. Anything from spontaneous metamagic feats and randomly selecting targets to an anvil falling from the sky doing 1d20/level damage has occurred... and there is even the dreaded option on the random effects table called "DM's choice."
To go along with it I play her as completely innocent and absent minded, and extremely pyro. And of course, Spell Focus: Evocation.
Kika Roberts - The original concept is a mix of the Dread Pirate Roberts and Kika from Suidoken IV. I created her for a pen and paper campaign as a bard, as a daughter of "Captain Roberts," an NPC from the "Kazahon" game. So she is pretty much the pirate in me, with a lot of tale-weaving and fun...

I usually just get a random thought about a personality and then ideas and details just start flooding my mind. Then i usually either forget the char, screw him up, grow tired of him or something like that. Then there are lots of chars that never leave my head.
Insanity has been kind to me, but no longer.

To elaborate, because I have more characters now... I'll use an analogy. Pretend you are in an area that a DM has dropped an NPC cat in. The cat can talk, walk, eat, and converse with you, and has offered to help you with a rather major problem. Cear is under siege, and only this cat knows how to stop it.
Got it? Good.
Silver - she would talk to the cat, get what she could out of it. That being said, while she's talking to that cat, she's probably stealing from the coin purse around its waist until she has to figure out how to steal the coin purse too because its really pretty and has sparklie gold on the front. She's probably going to trust the cat about as much as she trusts the Emperor (which she doesn't at all).
Xana - she would try to figure out the best way to destroy the cat, and please Coloth at the same time. That could include, but wouldn't be limited to doing anything to that cat - but she would probably have to wait until Silver was done getting information out of it first. Because, she's not stupid even if she is a warrior, and if that cat is working for the party or parties sieging Cear, she wants to help the other side. She has no loyalty to anyone except Coloth.
Faen - she would react a bit differently than the previous two. Ever the consumate Varanite daughter of nobility, she probably would first listen as the cat was interrogated, and contemplate the different avenues she could persue in her mind. She would always chose the safest, but most deadly option if it was available. Even if it meant betraying those she held close to her - so long as the law was followed (the law as interpreted by her, that is) and her own code wasn't interfered with, she would probably not react as expected.
So, to sum up.
My CG rogue - is in it for herself.
My CE warrior - is in it for herself and Coloth.
MY LE Sorceress - is in it for herself, Lochwar, and her own code of morality.
I see a pattern.
Hm. Usually I twist one character concept - in this case, as I mentioned before, in the beginning there was "Witcheaven", a sorceress with a slight tendency to overreact and had a bit of an insanity problem. Then "Heaven" was born in Das1, and though she wasn't the sanest crayon in the box, she's pretty sane compared to poor Celintra in Das2, who is sleeping currently.
Of the three I play reguarly right now that I mentioned in this post, the one likely to go postal is probably Xana, um, well, for very good reason. Did I mention she served Coloth? So, where do I get my ideas? The scariest thing you can imagine is often something right in front of you. If I succeed in that one mantra, I'm doing my job as a RPer.

The idea behind Zahur was to simply create the opposite of how a mage is typically viewed in a fantasy setting. Maybe he's a little like the wizard from the Conan the Barbarian movie. Tribal, uncouth, naive to civilized ways yet eager to learn.
He's fun to play.

Pylia was designed to be a contrast to all the angsty, troubled characters out there. She was created to be the type to try to bring joy and happiness to all around her, until someone pisses her off. She is a bard pure and simple, driven by emotion. She is to be the Stevie Nicks of Cear.
Myriah is my child with the troubled past and no real future. She recognizes the futility of her situation and now just seeks to survive. She likes few, and trusts even fewer than that.
Zahira is the young temptress just learning her own sexuality. She is an imp, pure and simple. She is out for her own gain and seeing just how much she can make others uncomfortable. She is the typical spoiled teenaged daughter of a wealthy man.

Draco: I wanted to make him lawful without making him a zealot, so he's the type who doesn't do anything without a very good reason. Basically, I decided to make a schemer rather than a "It's bad let's kill it!" type of character. Of course, Pylia kind of screwed up my original plan a bit.
Lorcann: He's a bear. Okay, not really, but he REALLY likes bears. I made him because I have this ridiculously stupid/funny idea of an enlarged, fully buffed dire bear charging over the hill at his enemies. The personality just sort of happened.
Remi: This is my attempt to make a fast talking, sometimes offensive, always looking to make a buck type of character. We'll see how he works out.
Illistirim. Murderous.

I will keep mine simple:
Jherod; First time I logged on to play this type of game ever after being convinced by a mate who suggested a fighter would be simple to learn how to play then his personality was mainly taken from some of my RL experiences late teens to early twenties.
Mordecai; I wanted to learn how magic works here but still got a lot to learn about it, I had an idea of what his personality would be but he took it to a whole new lvl and a unrelenting love of fire which is just scary.
Arriana; I wanted to take on a new challenge also take me well out of my comfort zone, had a basic idea of her personality etc and wanted to try out a sneaky character.

Rhode shot the cat because he enjoyed it and didn't care about the outcome as long as someone was upset.Vahene wrote:To elaborate, because I have more characters now... I'll use an analogy. Cear is under siege, and only this cat knows how to stop it.
He will go to extremes, for him its not just enough to win the fight he wants to make sure that the other person won't be able to fight again and if there are witnesses to the fight Rhode will want to do it in such away that it will leave a lasting impression on whoever is there to witness it. He enjoys causing trouble for others and generally tries to make a pest out of himself. If he is being polite you need to wonder why he is acting in such a way.
Rhode uses people. If he asks you to join up in a party you better believed that it is his expectation that you will be the meat-shield. If he is willing to trade with you its only to see what type of goodies you may be holding on to or one of his attempts to get an advantage. If he is disabling traps its because he either wants the trap or wants to be the first to see what is in the box. He is very content to watch you die if he feels he may be able to sneak out of the area on his own. He has no problem opening the door where the big bad meanie is hiding while you are sitting down and resting.
As ambitious as his plans maybe they tend to be unorganized and spontaneous where the end result might be just to see what happens. Luckily for most he seldom follows through on any of his schemes.
Rhode for me was an experiment. I had never played an evil character before and wasn't sure I could pull it off. Rhodes humor is the dark side of my own; the difference being is that Rhode will actually mean the nasty things he says where I would only be joking (or keeping my mouth shut). His lower class status (dock worker) places him just above a peasant, as Rhode wouldn't willing tie himself to someone. He is the homeless guy you see sitting on a bench scratching himself while young woman walk by in summer dresses. He is the bum that walks into the restaurant with a dirty nasty wax cup and helps himself to the soda fountain, reaches into the salad bar to grab some lunch and then leaves without a word to anyone.
Where everyone gets the idea that he doesn't bath I assume was made up by others to help their image of a despicable characters. It doesn't make sense for a thief to be reeking in the shadows and Rhodes reaction to such an accusation should show that he doesn't think he smells.
