The bald elf follows Father Minuvas out of the door leaving the halfling alone for the moment with her tortured dreams. The door slides back into place with a metallic clunk waking the her from her slumber.
A flickering shadow in the far corner catches her eye. The halfling follows the shadow for a moment, clutching the gaol bars. *Pssssshhhhh* She spins around to see the torch behind her extinguished. "W-who's there?" she whispers. Another torch goes out. The light from the remaining torch casts a faint glint on the far corner of the room.
For a moment, Sgiana can barely make out the silhouette of a hooded figure shuffling through parchment on the desk. The shadow pulls a small journal from inside the desk, places it in his pocket, and disappears again.
"What's all this?" There's a rattling at the door to the Gaol. The lock breaks in two and the door swings open. Sgnia takes a small step outside the Gaol, looking both ways. "I ain't tell them nuthin." She hears a slight rustling behind her and turns to see the shadowy figure behind her.
Before she can say or do anything, the shadow pulls a burlap sack over her head, and holds the halfing under his arms. The figure tightly cinches the sack, trying to control the halfling as she tries to kick and bite her way out.
A tall woman with piercing eyes emerges from the shadow. "Shhhhhhh. Quiet down," she whispers. The woman looks up to the window that is now cracked, then looks down at the halfling still tussling within the sack. She shakes her head. "A lot fatter than I expected."

Mumbled curses and threats issue forth from the bag but the halfling quits strugglng. She decides that she needs to save her strength until her captor's or rescuer's intentions can be decerned. Sgaina does not have a problem acknowlesging her lack in the ways of strategy. That is the forte' of her companion who will be bleeding profusely for letting this happen to her in the first place.

The woman watches as the struggle dies down.
"Well, on to Plan B."
She turns back to the door, propping it open slightly. The hallway appears to be empty for the time being. The woman flings the sack over her shoulder, shifts into the hall, and then slips into the adjacent room in what seems to be a single motion.
In contrast to the previous room, this one appears to be modestly decorated: a dresser, a full-length mirror, and a few sparse belongings lying near a humble cot. The woman latches the lock behind her then places the sack on top of the dresser, loosening the knot and opening the bag to reveal the halfling with a hostlile stare and arms folded; her legs swinging.
The woman, unmoved by Sgiana's unwavering gaze, reaches into her cloak, pulls out a piece of bread and offers it to the small woman.
"Here. Eat."
The halfling examines the bread, pinches off a small piece and eats it. Finding the bread to be safe, she gnaws on it ferociously. As the lilliputian savages the bread, the woman pushes back her hood exposing her silver hair, closely-cropped, and dark red lips. Her cloak drops to floor as she examines herself in the mirror. Her garb now resembles that of a Neophyte down to the most minute detail.
"This will have to do." She turns to the side to get a better appraisal, then looks over to Sgiana whose demeanor has yet to change. "Look, I don't know how you got yourself into this situation, but your friends want you out. Now, I suggest you cooperate or you're going back in the Gaol. Understand?"

The elf follows Minuvas to the front of the Church. "I hope you will have no trouble with the halfling captor. I would keep her well away from sharp objects." Vilicus smiles at his own joke. "She is liable to be a handful thougn her weakness now from my questioning and your jailing should aid you in keeping her manageable. The demons would be upon us should she escape. I am thinking, after my second brief glimpse into her mind that we should probably hang her as an example but I will leave that course of action to you and the law of the Empire."
A cold shudder passes through the elf's spine that troubles him but is not unfamiliar. The halfling has awoken and after being so deep in her consciousness he is imediately aware of her state. She is a fury at the moment and though fear is not this elf's companion often, it comes to visit him now. There are demons he has encountered that feel more comfortable than he feels with only the traces of her awakening stirring his mind.
"Father, I thank you for your time and I hope I have been of some small aid in your quest for the truth and those who would threaten the Church. You and I know that Lochwar walks with us all and guides us while he watches how we use the powers with which he blesses us."
The day has given way to night and the moon hides its face. "It is a night for thieves and assassins, Father. No better time to catch vermin than when the darkness is deepest. I give thanks for the Master Lochwar for his gift of sight to me. It should be a good eve for hunting." The eyes of the elf begin to glow with a low reddish tint that deepens as he bows to Minuvas. "May I request a blessing for my hunting?"

Meanwhile elsewhere in the Church...
This halfling throws out her chest in a obvious display of bravado. "I understand there would be no great loss to me to break your neck and take your weapons. The price in blood for my capture needs to be paid and I would all too lappily start with that arrogant priest."
"I don't esprcially care who you think sent you to "save" me or why but to my eyes it appears I am still a prisoner here. So what is your next brillant plan? If you plan on cutting your way out of here thats all well and good but I hope you brought me a pair of short swords. The killing goes so much quicker with two." Sgiana catches her breath a moment. "The master at least had sence enough to send a woman. We might have a chance. I guess he reasoned correctly that I would have killed any male that had the sack to put me in a sack."

The woman adjusts her disguise while waiting patiently for the halfling to finish, "No, I don't think that will be necessary,” she says while shaking her head slightly. She lets her arm fall down to her side. A small wand drops from the sleeve of her robe into her hand. She taps the wand into the palm of her hand. “All I need from you is to sit still.”
From the hallway, a thin layer of smoke wafts from the bottom of the door swirling along the walls and ceiling. The door cracks slightly. A tiny webbed foot steps into the hallway. A small chicken puffs up its white feathers proudly. A ruby amulet hangs around its chest, glowing faintly.
Members of the order go about their daily routines: silent reading, discussion, and prayer. A young neophyte sits cross-legged in a corner reading a tome. She looks up from her study to see another chicken at her feet. “Well, what is this? How’d you get here?” she says while stroking its feathers. “There’s another one. And another?”
She drops the bird on the ground; her mouth falls agape as she watches hundreds of chickens flood into the room. Panic overtakes the church. Members chase the chickens around, grabbing as many as they can. One Neophyte trips over a bird and knocks down a bookcase.
As chaos ensues, a small red glow moves through the crowd. The chicken, amulet around its neck, struts pass the room toward the entrance where the woman waits arms folded. She adjusts a ruby ring on her finger. As the chicken gets closer both her ring and its amulet shine brighter. She snatches he bird and slides out the door leaving traces of smoke in her wake.
Throughout the church, one-by-one all the chickens disappear.
Outside, the woman, now in her original clothing, stands holding the chicken up to her face. “Well, that wasn’t so bad, was it?” She tosses the bird up in the air and before hitting the ground it turns back into the gnome.

Minuvas emerges from his quarters, to see Neophytes chasing foul about the Church.
He looks around, placing hands against his hips. One of the Birds flutters across his face , he quickly grabs it by the neck and attempts to break it.
He notices while the bird feigns a believable death, he is not fooled "These are not birds...this is the work of some trickery. I have killed beings before in my palm, this is no such creature."
As the birds began to disappear "And now my Prisoner is missing...."
He tapped his foot, stroking his chin. "This is the work of villainous magics... let the Prisoner go. Lochwar has a plan for all things, this one more reason the Talon have all the reason to leverage some security funding for the Church my Neophytes.
Back to work, I have no time to worry about petty criminals anymore. There are more important things on the Horizon"
Some Neophytes who were running towards the Church door, turn around at Minuvas' beckon - and get back to inspecting every corner of the Church for dirt or grime, and reporting every ounce of property onto paper. His audit was almost complete, and he was going to leverage every coin...every improvement out of the Empire he could.
The next time someone wanted to burn the Church, they'd for it with a Crimson sacrifice.
