I think it's about time someone locked this thread, but thats just my opinion.

I find it interesting, simply because the conversation allowed me the opportunity to point out a few things that I feel (in my own opinion) could be improved in order to help the beginning players to Dasaria, either returning members from Dasaria 1, or brand new folks to the community. Now, if that's the extent of the entire topic that merits reading, then by all means, lock it, delete it, or whatever else you wish. But I believe being able to offer my thoughts on those points benefited the community as a whole. I found the topic interesting and of value for that, and all of the other postings.

Yeah, I started the thread but I wouldn't mind it being locked.
For God's sake, I just wanted to start a discussion about the pros/cons of a wipe, and how the players would feel. I expected 90+% of the players to think it's a bad idea, but I didn't expect sheer panic to ensue. I was bored at work, fantasizing about Dasaria, and wanted to see how many other people might enjoy starting over from scratch now that we all know a little more about Cear et. al.
I do think that other thread is funny though

Actually, i strongly oppose this thread being locked.
There is a group of players who want to debate this issue, so let them. If you dont agree, then say your bit, and quit reading it.
Those who want to debate it, do so in a civil manner.

Didn't any of you read the Disclaimer on the back of all your characters. Yes, you have one...yes even you, the guy in the back doubting it.
I shall super enhance the small print:
*Be advised: This person/persona/character is property of the Dasaria II development team("The Team") and must be forfeited upon request (Article 2, Section V, Subsection B2 of the Private DM Disclosure act of 1999) to any Authorized Team member, including Dungeon Masters, World Builders, and other people of importance("The Minuvas"). Failure to comply shall result in immediate banning of account, Heresy Charges, and a No-admittance ticket to the Kingdom of Heaven.*

Your kind of missing the point of why some of us have a problem with this. By leaving this thread open it legitimizes that these wipes are possible. When it has been stated NUMEROUS times that they will not occur. The net effect is threads like the other one where rumors start that wipes will be occuring. Which in turn is an overall negative for the community because it leads to players not being properly informed.
So this is about having a properly informed community. Which these threads are not encouraging.

I'm still agreeing with Bronco.

Anyone bothering to read these threads will find the same responses from the staff. Locking them will just spawn more threads eventually, if someone wishes to bring it up again. If people stopped spamming them with stupid pictures, there would be a better chance that they would gather dust and dissapear.

While this is true, I would also hope that those that choose to read this thread would realize (as it is the topic's heading) that this is a discussion thread only about such an event, not a discussion about it actually happening.
Either that, or we can just use big bold words on every page of this discussion to make certain that everyone notices it, if they should not be reading closely. For example:
According to the DMs, there will be NO character or item wipes at this time.
If people still choose to spread rumors or question after this, then I cannot do more to help them except to advise them to read more closely, or to see a specialist for their eyes.

Give that man a gold medal...he gets the point of keeping it open.
Players have the right to beat that dead horse to death all they want, and always have the time and space to debate it. Obviously we as the Dm Team read these threads, so who knows if someone will just say something that can spark some interest.
The Dm Team has given the word from the top down, and Jeh has stated it as well. So while some players dont think we get it, or like the posts, debate has changed dasaria as much as player interaction.
what i dont get is why absentee players still think their opinions will continue to change the game.

Anyway back to the original point of this thread...
Thank you Sirius for actually discussing this in a rational manner! I understand the issues you bring up about lost lore, histories, etc. I think this is the biggest reason to NOT have a wipe, besides people just generally being attached to their characters. I think you have a valid concern about losing lore, but I don't think it would really be a problem.
Just because characters were wiped doesn't necessarily mean that past history didn't happen. For instance, many people (presumably Minuvas, but I can't speak for him) would re-create the lore that's worked so well. Others would not re-create characters, and then those events truly become part of Dasaria's history--it's not lost just because someone isn't playing that character. It's just past history. What's the difference between someone who doesn't play a character anymore and that character being deleted? Nothing, really; from a RP perspective, it should be the same.
I also understand the idea of a wipe not adding anything to Dasaria, and only subtracting. I respect your opinion, but I think that kicking-off the official campaign starting from scratch would be a good thing because of all the reasons I mentioned above, namely making more Dasaria-oriented characters and resetting the economy. Surely those are positives?

Two things about that (both rhetorical):
1.) Why would new characters be more "Dasaria oriented" than our current characters? You think there is something inherently Dasaria-like that eludes the current character base?
2.) Why would it benefit the server to "reset" the economy? As I have mentioned before, that would result in everyone scrambling to retrieve everything they lost due to the reset, increasing competition for extremely scarce hunting areas. While it would afford new opportunity for RPing with strangers, it would not enhance that RPing.
IMO, the starting point is somewhat irrelevant as far as benefitting the campaign. Starting at our current point will add to the richness as we have already invested a lot of time in stories, faction-building, relationships, inforrmation gathering, and yes, our gear. Why redo all of that in the same old content we have already played a bajillion times?

Both questions are rhetorical, yet I'll answer them briefly. Regarding your first question, I addressed this very well in my original post. See the comparison between one of my oldest characters, Turin, and a new character I've recently created, William of Aucklorn.
Secondly, I understand that even if we reset the economy, we will eventually be back in the same position we are now. However, I still think it'd be nice to (at least temporarily) get rid of all those low level guys running around with uber gear (that they may or may not be able to use just yet). Essentially, I think that a reset of the economy will have short-term benefits, and end us up no worse off in the long term.

My opinion only and with greatest respect: A character wipe would be great for the powergamers, bad for the crafters and a distraction from generating new content and/or tweaking the world
