Well, I don't know about that player but the first character I rped in NWN1 was a drow. First I really liked the drow race and am a big fan of R.A. Salvatore (mostly because of his detailed fight scenes in the stories). But also he was inspired by what I saw as a misperception of what the drow race is. To me, their cunning, vile, and never truely trust anyone. Their steathy, with keen senses, and always manipulating events around them. Doing whatever they can to get an edge over.....well anyone or anything.
The point of my drow character was to bring to life "my vision" of what a drow warrior should be. So I created Zalti (orginally on a mud) to do this. As I learned more lore of the land I adapted to their story abit, changing my character to fit in. All togather I ended up being very successful at portraying the character I was going for. (was on Three Kingdoms in case any were wondering).
Well, that was MY reason for playing a drow back then, but I'm sure there are those out there that play just for the stat bonuses.

Coming from a person who played a Drow on Das I. I think that ANY drow seen within city limits is EXPECTED to be extremely evil. That is what drow are supposed to do. For good drow to appear is just insanity. Compare it to the likes of us (humans) walking around with a bunch of vampires and werewolves. Would we expect anything other than the bloodlust of a vampire to try to kill us? NO. If you are a regular race (human, elf, etc.) then you should have a deep fear and racism towards drow. That being said it should be a PRIVILEGE to play a character from the underdark. You should have a well planned out reason for how you got to cear, what you plan to do and how you plan to do it. Otherwise in my opinion you shouldn't be in the city. (don't get me started on drow, Duergar and deep gnomes doing the first couple quests)
Furthermore, The influx of the WoW generation is really leaving alot of people with a bad taste in their mouths. We knew it would happen but *i* never expected to log on to Dasaria where the first 5 people i *ever* saw were 2 drow 1 elf 1 deep gnome and 1 human.
Just my 2 cents.

Well in my intro post in the other section, I stated I've played a drow/dark elf in just about every single freaking chance Ive had. Like the poster above, I love Salvatore and Elaine Cunningham's work, and this is what I choose to play. The story of Drizzt is great and all, but I'm more in it for the race. They're drow, they dont pussyfoot around they get things done- with style to boot. Also, the "all drow are evil" thing got canned like what, 5-6 books ago too. Most are evil, they dont all eat babies though geez.
Am I evil? No. Am I good? Certainly not. Am I good when there is something in it for me? Possibly! My character is usually the epitome of self preservation. Also, what's the big deal with the lore? I know I'm a new player here and my 2 cents isn't worth much yet, but why can't the *new* races be written in like a new chapter in a book to accommodate the new players in some way? Evolve the world!
Everyone seems to have a problem with ECL races which gets annoying very quickly. In my opinion they arent even really that overpowered. For instance, people often talk about the spell resistance. Spell resistance is 11+ character level. If my level is limited to 18 which is fine, my max spell resistance is 29. A caster rolls 1D20 + Character level, in addition to bonuses from buffs/feats to overcome spell resistance. I would say things are still in a casters favor.
Anyways, I dislike drama, but you asked my reasons for playing ; ) I think this server rocks and I really would hate to have to find another home, but that's just looking like how its heading because of alllll the haters. I realize "hey lighten up people" posts aren't quite the greatest first impression one can make on a community, but hey - I just wanna have fun too.
BTW, DM's! give me a Jarlaxle pimp hat - he's my hero ; )

The world has evolved, immensely. You weren't here for that, so you wouldn't know. Dasaria has been in many peoples' lives for years. Many new players here requesting the server to change to meet thier personal needs, have known of Dasaria for minutes.tenodera wrote:Also, what's the big deal with the lore? One of the very basic traits of role-playing is adapting to the internal logic of the campaign world that is presented to you. This is Dasaria, not the Forgotten Realms. The fact that this is Dasaria, and that it's background and 'house rules' are unique to it's self, is the fundamental thing that makes it so special.

If this is true, does every PrC make sense in Dasaria (in some form) ? Or are some too far off to make any sense......?Grayle wrote:The world has evolved, immensely. When everything is coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.

No offense, but this is your opinion. I dont tell you how to play whatever it is you play, and I expect the same.
"If you are a regular race (human, elf, etc.) then you should have a deep fear and racism towards drow."
Again, opinions of each individual character. Some people might not be as xenophobic of others naturally. I've read time and time again how "drow" aren't a natural part of this world. Correct me if i'm wrong, but apparently they're a new race to this world - so how in the world does YOUR and all the other characters know all of this about Drow?

Know ofense to you man, but this is the type of elitism that's just making me almost not want to log in here anymore, despite the great server and the fun I've already had. Sure, you dont like the "wow" generation, but others don't care for the elitism. It's a mixed pot we're all going to have to live with or move on.

Aye, Dasaria is what drew alot of us to the server and brought over all those who worked hard on the first Dasaria. Please don't take this as an attack at either of you but rather a mear players view on the issue.Grayle wrote:The world has evolved, immensely. You weren't here for that, so you wouldn't know. Dasaria is Dasaria, would it be fair to ask those who worked so hard to create tapestries of history and conflict in Dasaria one to accept that it meant nothing and had no effect? No. Would it be reasonable that somethings differ from Dasara and Varanas rule? Yes.
I am for limiting the Drow and Tieflings and other questionable subraces but I would prefer that the races had less of a hard "You just can't" and more a players desire to not play them. Personally I am holding out for the point at which Tieflings and Drow are attacked in public with little or no reprocussion from the law. Blatently open bigotry is my preferance over applications for Drow.

The largest wound will come from those you considered friends.

Pointing out the obvious my friend - I have read the "while you were gone" chapters in the forums sections above. I am aware this is an old community with a rich history. That's why I like it. Remember at one point you were one of those new players only here for minutes trying to find a home.

And I appriciate that , as I have played PnP for years. By your logic though this isn't Forgotten Realms, so why cant dark elves exist here? It's a clean slate then. There should be no xenophobia or disdain for a race that is brand new to the world. You are using OOC knowledge about a world not Dasaria to make preconceived notions about a race that apparently didn't exist until recently. That is unless people are misquoting the ECL races arent a part of this worl. I know the guy above me said he played a drow in nwn1 Dasaria, so I dunno

I would be all for that - if there was content elsewhere I could still do. Perhaps a faction system to garner favor with the city? Also why not just *cap* the number of ECL races that can be rolled up on the server.
