Role-assumption is more important than role-playing. People often confuse these two terms.

Dasaria isn't about enforcing "thee, thou and yon hither steed". Dasaria is more about playing your characters as though thier motivations are more important than your own as a player. Is the character doing what they logically would do, acting and reacting to the events in the world around them?

At least, that's my take. I don't mean to sound unwelcoming. Hell, come on in and play for a bit, see if you enjoy the atmosphere.

Of course if you assume the role you end up playing it out. But Matt that's definitely a good way of putting it in words anyone can understand and removing the connotation of "role playing".

Excellent, this makes me feel a little better. I tend to role play my character "passively" for lack of better words (Selecting appropriate dialogue with NPC's etc), I role play within myself but keep any communication with other real people generally OOC, or if communication is not required, I tend to say nothing. This is usually the case.

However, if someone did approach me with their Hails and Thees, I would play along as best I could until the conversation is over with my typical evil/snobbish/to the point speak. The last thing I want to do is screw other people's enjoyment, especially considering this PW seems to be so well developed with such a good community.

This is how I see it - I don't think there would be too much of a problem if we kept out of people's affairs and acted relatively passively (that is, not communicating much). After all, we are a new evil faction anyways, and since when are they the active, friendly and bubbly type? Instead I think we'd just prefer to let our blades and magic do the talking for us :)

I now understand that some kind of story behind our existence is pretty much a requirement, that is absolutely OK and I'm sure we can come up with some fairly creative writings. I think we need it anyways, to be honest I think the guild is lacking a bit of history and character right at this present moment anyways.

I want to thank you all for your input, it is much appreciated.

Just chiming in a little on my thoughts about what role playing is. Thous and thees does not make roleplaying at all. Instead as has been said it is immersing yourself into a character. For me it is a matter of staying in character, having my character stay true to there own thoughts and desires.

If you don't really like to roleplay, well I don't see the point of coming to a roleplaying server. However, I hope you will give it a try and would only ask that you try to avoid bringing in out of character talk while playing. Talk about armor class and those kinds of things draws in OOC stuff that is not a part of roleplaying. The other important thing is to try not to metagame. Or take advantages of things such as the fact that the guards are not being controlled by a DM etc.

I think alot of you have redefined the term "roleplaying" for me, and now that you have, I think I can say that I am actually a roleplayer.

Glad to have that cleared up. Now go on and try the place out already. ;)

No no! Don't stop talking, it's the best way to solve problems and clear up misconceptions. In fact, motivate more people from the guild to jump in cannonball style, see what is taboo and what is accepted.

Quoted for truth!

I do have a question though, how many strong are you and your kin, Max?

That is to say, how many guildies do you have?

I hate to be a naysayer...bah, who am I kidding? I love being a naysayer. But anyway, I just don't like the idea of taking an existing gaming guild and attempting to fit it into a place like Dasaria. Dasaria is a round hole. The existing guild is clearly a square peg. Any story made up to help fit it in is just a giant hammer.

Factions should spring out naturally from WITHIN the world. Get the feel of the place. Interact. See what is missing from a PC perspective. Fill that void. This way it isn't forced.

I agree. I'm very much against the idea of guilds forming their own guilds in an already existing world. Just like I'm against the idea of "reusing" characters in several different worlds, just because they don't belong there. They aren't native to the world. They already have their own made-up rules, their own characteristics, their own this and that, and that makes it hard to mold them into a gameworld.

It's -possible- to adapt guilds and characters like that to a gameworld. But I don't trust the asshats who're incapable of adapting along with the good ones, there are always people who juuuuuust don't understand it and mess it up for the rests of us.

If you wanna play in a persistant world with this a rich lore; go ahead. But learn the lore first, on your own and -then- see if you can figure something out. Forming guilds on forehands is forming a clique, and clique's are bad and inapproachable, housing for bad environment and disrespect against the world itself.

Sorry for being so negative, I just think it blows. I can be persuaded, figure. And I don't write the law, thankfully, so do what you like. Things usually work out for the best anyways.

Agreed with what Beyond Redemption and Kell said.

If you want to create something, create it in such a way that is spawns directly from the world you are playing in. Then make sure that it contributes to the general story and theme of said world.

There's nothing I hate more than some guild being formed that likes to, for argument's sake, summon demons all night long. That might be fun, but what the hell does it have to do with Varana or Dasaria, when the mood clearly lies in unrest among the Cearian populace.
