There are plenty of PWs out there with epic levels (some of them even over 30) and Kaedrin's pack and a million custom changes, nerfs and additions. It's nice to have an alternative for those of us who have different preferences or don't give a **** whether this guy is stronger than that other guy in PVP.
My whole post was about compromising and making sacrifices. It may be what you like but it does not appeal to enough people to populate the server. I probably won't be getting back in to NWNII ever again so I don't think you will see me much anymore :( I just wanted to share what I have experienced by playing many different online games over the years. If you want to attract players you need to think of it like a business model in order to get more players. This means doing things you don't want to, to cater to the players. This may not be the approach you guys are willing to take but just be prepared to not really have many new players join the server :(

Or you may be able to attract a different sector of the player base. I get your point and it wouldn't be the end of the world for me if those things were changed, but I'd certainly find the server less attractive, and I don't think I'm the only player in the world that has those preferences.

Anyway, stuff like levels and classes are hardly the problem, IMO.

Dasaria offers a role play environment fore most. The game mechanics are secondary.

But I must come to the builders defence here. Over the years Dasaria has been really flexible, implementing new content all the time, and not just new quests but game mechanic changes.
The dedication and skill shown by those handling the hard ware of dasaria is impressive to say the least. There is an endless route of improvements to the world which places Dasaria among not only the best but also long lived servers around.

To burn that kind of energy on maintaining and adapting the server usually burn out those managing servers but Dasaria has found a key to hold on to high quality building without loosing its soul. In short, Dasaria has undertaken so many changes that to claim it is unwilling to change is close to an insult to alot of people working behind the scenes here. This is not meant to anyone in particular, just a general reminder to all - "Bear this in mind" when discussing around the game mechanics of the server.

I got to be honest and say that I dont think changing the game mechanics is the key to attract new players, even though that work will continue as well.

If one wants to help improve the number of RPers on the server, I think we should be discussing RP and recruiting more and game mechanics less.

I can vouch for this. I much prefer the level 20 setting to other, level 30 servers.

Hello people.

I don't expect many people to remember me.. been a looong while, but every once in a while I'll head over here to the forums and see whats up. After all Dasaria was a big part of my life throughout das 1 and das 2.

In any case, what brings me to finally post is the fact that maybe I could help in some way by letting you all know why I left.

Three reasons.

1. Community became very Toxic. Mind you this was 5 years ago.. yeah probably longer than most of you who are active even have been playing, but even before the obvious issues now I left because the writing on the wall. I saw people with huge ego's clash. I saw DM's having no respect for players and favoring others. I saw people who wanted to drive the story in a certain direction clash. I saw people who were not tolerant of others type of RP. Everyone had to be serious. That got old FAST.

2. DM's, bless them for all their hard work, stopped interacting in a meaningful way. They would not listen to any kind of positive criticsm, and in some cases just flat out ignore or censor people.

3. The area design was flawed, in a major way. Whether it was because the players had no respect for the server rules or something else, areas were designed in a way that were catered to power levelers and exploiters. There was no such thing as going out adventuring and having a blast killing random monsters. Any place that showed any kind of progression for your level was CR much much higher than it should have been. Yes there were quests.. but thats not fun after the 100th time you've rinsed/repeated them no matter who you're doing it with.

All in all, those three things caused me to leave that long time ago. I ended up finding a server (which I still play on) that was difficult yet rewarding, RP centralized, has a great DM community even if the players at times can be nobs lol, and offered a lot of different options.

MOD EDIT: WITH ALL DUE RESPECT, I DO NOT COME ON YOUR FORUMS AND PIMP OUR PW. YOU DO NOT HAVE OUR PERMISSION TO ADVERTISE YOUR PW HERE.

Anyway, I wish you all the best, and hopefully the server can get a bit more popular. As always I'll be keeping an eye on you guys.

Good to see folks from the past popping by still!

I am not sure I recognise your three issues. But if anyone got some criticism I am open to listen. And I am pretty sure thats the case with all DMs.

From a DM perspective I think the main issue right now. is that to few try to communicate rp ideas. And I am not talking about changing game mechanics, because that kind of talk is out here. But no one is discussing plots, or story ideas in the froums for DMs to pick up on.

Feel free to come back any day and see what you can do to help! :)

Hey guys,

I don't play much anymore, either. Not due to really of the aforementioned grievances mentioned or alluded to, but mostly because of real life and whatnot. I guess saying that the server has been this way before (long bouts of inactivity, not whatever bad blood and OOC drama you guys are talking about) doesn't give much comfort to people, but I will say a few things:

1. This is not the first "Is Dasaria dead?" discussion thread this forum has seen.

2. Having been during other dire times over the last 8 years, I will say without a doubt this place wouldn't be here without Wired. (s)He has been instrumental in keeping this place going over the years and it's doubtful it would still be around without him/her.

3. As much as DMs are important, a lot of big movers and shakers in this world have been players.

4. This is an ole *** game. There aren't as many people playing it as there were when it first came out. No matter what changes you make you can't do anything about that.

5. I think people should treat the world more as a weekly PnP tabletop game than a world where you can just pop in and play whenever. That's how the world started and it could still work that way if people really wanted to keep it going. We did something similar for a while that was really enjoyable for those involved and led to some major changes in the world and more people eventually coming on and sticking around for a while.

People can just set up RP groups and maybe hook up with a DM that can meet during that time and you have a running story line in your group that has potential to spill over into the world at large.

6. It's just a game.

That's all. I still love this place. It was a home for me for a long time and while all things come to an end, if people want to keep it going, then it can still be a great place.

I'll be back in the States for a couple of weeks starting Sunday. It's possible you might see Titus kicking around town. He'll probably be a little bummed now that realizes that he's faded into obscurity and is no longer famous.

Well, somebody finally did something to cause me to lock this thread (no worries Dom, it's up a bit); and necro-post at that.
