Out of interest, is the key to the second floor of the Bugbear cave able to be pickpocketed from the Bugbear that carries it? Or do I have to kill him?
Hey that trap wasn't there before!
Traps arn't really my solo problem
I just get annoyed being blasted away in one shot lol. While I have the spells to stop that, it then means slacking off on offensive spells, and it takes a lot of spells to even take down one bugbear. The server as people describe it seems to be based around combat and killing, not thinking your way around problems.

I really don't know what to say to this. Isn't that how most servers are like? I mean, combat is an essential part of NWN2, period. It's why most people play the game.Akimbo wrote:The server as people describe it seems to be based around combat and killing, not thinking your way around problems.
There are many quests out there that require the player to think.
I will say again—the bugbear caves was not designed for a low-level solo wizard. I can say that I am glad you are not succeeding, because if you were, then it would mean I failed in creating a solid dungeon that challenges party-based play.
There are some quests in the game designed to be solo'd by nearly every quest, and there are some that are designed strictly for group-play. This is a multiplayer game after all, and the DM and Development Staff here like to encourage that.

Ack take your mind off the bugbears, that's over and done with, I can't do any quests there. It won't change. I've accepted that. I was talking generally, sometimes it'd be nice if you could sneak past someone instead of having to kill them, or picking the door lock instead of having to kill someone for a key etc.

Bugbears is VERY solo-able, even by a pure caster. You're just a bit low in level for it. Try doing Falier's house for another level (or two) to gain some more spells and power, and THEN return to Bugbears. If you have a ready supply of the necessary charms (or spell equivalents) you will find it not nearly as challenging as you did at level 5.
Bugbears is meant for a party, but many pure classes are able to solo there at the appropriate level. Please keep in mind that Bugbears is meant for level 6-10 even though you can gain entry earlier. I was able to solo it quite easily at level 6-7 on a pure bard, pure wizard, pure cleric and pure druid builds. The only challenging part was the final encounter and there are many approaches to that room that make it trivial as well.
If you would like some further tips on success in Bugbears, please feel free to PM me and I will give you a few that will ease your burden. But there is just no way you will convince people here that it is too hard.
I think if anything it is WAY too easy. Luckily, the DMs/builders also perceive this and have taken steps to make it slightly more of a challenge. I think they haven't gone nearly far enough, and I would like to see all of the zones in Das made MUCH more difficult.
Remember, the content here is not changing very often, so you will quickly exhaust the challenge available and really wish for more. Please don't be in too much of a rush, as it will take many months (years?) for the team to create the rest of the world.
In the meantime, we are stuck with replaying the content we have. Pretty soon, you will be a level 15-20 wizard and looking for something to keep you entertained, which most likely will be starting new toons with different builds.

Once I have a level 15-20 wizard and have seen what there is to see, I can settle down and start enjoying the RPing. I don't honestly think the bugbears is too hard, I was more annoyed that I can't do the quest down there due to the door relocking. Right now I don't have enough spells to kill the Bugbear with the key to the second level -_- in fact I don't really even try. I was happy just slowly slugging my way through the xp when the server reset, 500-1000xp a day or so. Slow and steady, right now it's about -500 xp a day. I was in the rats earlier and met some people which was nice, since we partied up, but I had to go after 2 minutes!! ( damn food that won't stay warm. ) The later I went down and was just ignored by the players down there, which sucked, so I went to look around and got slaughtered by Were-rats, since they just ignored my Ghostly Visage entirely. Anyway long story short I'm back down to 15000 xp and just gave up.Bobzim wrote:Akimbo -

That's the problem right there. One doesn't start RPing when you reach the level cap, as it were, you role-play from level 1 on.Akimbo wrote:Once I have a level 15-20 wizard and have seen what there is to see, I can settle down and start enjoying the RPing.
Sounds snobbish, doesn't it, but there are reasons. When you RP you can create IC friendships and contact that you can call on much easier to get a group going for something. Once you're in a group, things become much easier.
I didn't quite mean that until then I'd not RP at all, I meant more along the lines that once the levelling up is out the way I can focus entirely on RP, and not worry about my character falling behind any friends I do make. Of course I'll RP along the way, but I'll also be distracted by the pressing need to gain xp, gold etc alongside.Peregrinus wrote:That's the problem right there. Akimbo, if you are not confident asking around in-game to group up, then please use the forum and state your character name and login times. Hang in there mate, and remember you only need one additional person to make a party. Also if you join a guild, then there is the opportunity to party up with guild members

And don't forget Akimb0 that you have a standing party invite from me when I am online. You're probably still too low level for Sion, but I do have an Alt that is likely closer to what you need... and he is a meatshield..err fighter too.
It's like nailing jelly to a tree.

Yeah, what's a "meatshield"? <errrMMORPG....golum..> I've never heard that before. And I'm not a "squishy", either! <brrrrMMORPGgolum!>Eratai wrote:and he is a meatshield..err fighter too.
Now where are those "mobs"?
Seriously, I know I've spammed this enough on this board but I'll join up with anyone. Akimbo, look for me if you'd like as I think we're similar levels (Zahur is currently Conj8). Lemme know! Oh, and if you haven't done it yet, the Wizard's Tower is a fantastic quest (but we'll need some mea... er, fighters and probably a rogue to help us out there).

Well I've found my route, and a way to gain xp until level 7 ( when the fun starts
) so I'll be alright for now! Thanks to everyone whose replied in this thread which I hijacked to an amazing degree lol. I'll keep an eye out ingame for people still, just depends on what we're all like IC!
On topic ( lol.. ) traps! argh! I seem to have stopped gaining xp from disarming them! :S
Oh and there's some traps which are named "minor" yet ranked "impossible" to disarm, which is uh...not right ^_^;;
