Oh, I totally forgot one:

My TV aerial. Why? Because it zaps me. I don't know how this started, but since about a year ago it gives a small shock. It's not painful, more of an annoying surprise. However, it is on occasion hilarious, e.g. when someone walks into my room and while they're not watching I poke them with it, and they get zapped, or someone touches it accidentally.

The range may be a little limited, but luckily, my TV cabinet has wheels.

Oops! I tend to be guilty of this one.

My experience is that a default examine is one indicator of how much thought and preparation has gone into a character and therefore how likely the player is to rp that character. This is not a hard and fast rule and a default examine doesn't mean the player won't rp but I have found this to be the case more often than not.

There are other indicators that suggest rp is unlikely to be a priority, such as using L33t 5p34k, talking about "+3" weapons etc rather than referring to them as enchanted or whatever, running everywhere (especially in town) with no IC reason to do this, wandering around town with weapons drawn, conducting OOC conversations in normal talk instead of using party or tells, making literary or movie references during IC speech when these things clearly do not exist in game, IC use of modern coloquial language, for example referring to treasure as "phat lewt", theres lots.

Generally I will not initiatie rp with a character showing three or more of these behaviours, one can easily be overlooked (except L33t 5p34k that's a killer), two are a warning, but three generally mean rp just isnt going to happen.

I will of course do my best to rp with anyone who initiates rp with me.
This reminded me of another pet peeve of mine. People who come up with a far too rigid concept of what there character is going to be. All those background stories and such don't make you a good roleplayer.

If you're actually roleplaying you'll interact with people and events in the manner your CHARACTER would. Not how you think he should to reach some arbitrary goal you set for yourself.

That's why I prefer people who don't write up their characters life story before they start. They are the ones that are really roleplaying, developing a character that is alive based on the world they're in. Not following some script the player wrote out for them before the character was even generated.
I'm always right. I'm also a jerk. It's not my fault you can't get over the latter to see the former.

Hurray for Me!

Topic titles are like turn signals. They aren't for your benefit, but for the people around you.

When my wife piles all my clean laundry on my side of the bed so that when I finally decide that I am tired and have taken my contacts out, brushed my teeth and am already to settle down for my snooze, I find I have fifteen minutes of fumbling around blind trying to put my clothes away.

(I did try sleeping on top of them once but that didn't go over too well in the morning. )

I agree with this too, too much in the biography is often worse than none at all.

That's about every single person on earth. Those who live on mars (you know, the green ones with antennas) are different though, you should seriously consider moving there.

No martians!? are you out of your minds?? Ofcourse there... oh wait, now I understand. You're one of those purple squids with orange tentacles who inhabit venus, and are the sworn enemies of the martians!! I must warn my cousin! now they will be ready for your upcoming invasion, repell it, and then drive you venusian scum out of the face of earth!!!

You know, #7 on that list probably accounts for #'s 1-6.

That's one of mine too, stupid people. Or people that are smart pretending to be stupid, or even just people that shouldn't try to be either.
