That's just it, the spells with the most obvious visuals have some of the most mundane and lower end spell effects. Take a look at the file I linked and which spells are changed:Gixxer Chixxer wrote:...and really, if the powers are so powerful as to make them overpowered if they cannot be seen, perhaps the spells in question need a debuff.
- Mage Armor (and Greater)
A level 1 and level 3 spell, +4 Enchantment AC bonus and +6 Respectfully, nothing game breaking in and of themselves. A bread and butter spell, 99% of mages will have one of these, seriously, assume a mage is running this regardless.
- Protection from Alignment
A level 1 spell, +1 Deflection AC against (evil/good) protection from mind spells from (evil/good) casters. Again, pretty mundane.
- Protection from Arrows
A level 2 spell, dr 10/magic against ranged weapon attacks up to 10 damage/caster level. Pretty close to worthless honestly.
- Protection from Energy (and variants)
A large bunch of spells, varying in power. If you're up against a mage you should assume they have some form of elemental protection running anyway.
- Shield
A level 1 spell, +4 shield bonus to AC. A bread a butter spell, 99% of mages will cast this.
- Ghostly Visage (and ethereal variants)
Some decent power behinds these spells, the lower level one is, frankly, a joke past level 6 anyway.
And it bear repeating, for the umpteenth time, the spells will still have a visual effect, they will simply be more subdued.
