That's just it, the spells with the most obvious visuals have some of the most mundane and lower end spell effects. Take a look at the file I linked and which spells are changed:

- Mage Armor (and Greater)
A level 1 and level 3 spell, +4 Enchantment AC bonus and +6 Respectfully, nothing game breaking in and of themselves. A bread and butter spell, 99% of mages will have one of these, seriously, assume a mage is running this regardless.

- Protection from Alignment
A level 1 spell, +1 Deflection AC against (evil/good) protection from mind spells from (evil/good) casters. Again, pretty mundane.

- Protection from Arrows
A level 2 spell, dr 10/magic against ranged weapon attacks up to 10 damage/caster level. Pretty close to worthless honestly.

- Protection from Energy (and variants)
A large bunch of spells, varying in power. If you're up against a mage you should assume they have some form of elemental protection running anyway.

- Shield
A level 1 spell, +4 shield bonus to AC. A bread a butter spell, 99% of mages will cast this.

- Ghostly Visage (and ethereal variants)
Some decent power behinds these spells, the lower level one is, frankly, a joke past level 6 anyway.

And it bear repeating, for the umpteenth time, the spells will still have a visual effect, they will simply be more subdued.

FEMA? Federal Emergancy Management Agency? Or do you mean PETA? People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Rhode working for PETA? LOL That would explain a lot, he is an animal after all.

I did mean PETA, hehe. I think Wired is onto something though, Rhode the head of FEMA....thats just wrong.

Hello :D

I think they should be disabled. I'd played on a server on NWN1 that had nearly all spell buff effects turned off, and found I liked it much better. Not only in terms of that you don't have lazerballz floating around mages, but actually not knowing if a person was buffed to the gills or not made some RP confrontations much more interesting.

As far as lore goes too, I think nearly all buff effects are invisible. Farmer Joe shouldn't be able to look at a mage and go, "Lookit that shiny ball, it means he has Lord Farkwizzle's Arrow Protection on..."

Even stoneskin etc annoys me because it covers up cool-looking equipment :(

Yes I agree that they ALL should be removed.
Cannot wait to see the face of someone that will ambush me thinking of Im unbuffed! (eveil grinz)

Erm I mean for rp reasons...

They'd still know you have buffs, many of the noticable cleric spells don't have changes anyways.

And people wonder why Phelan dresses like a ranger.

so now an idea to shoot someone looks like ranger?

btw..actually i like all the balls and spell buffs for the character..not just voting no without any reason..though i admit there are some that require a bit lessen to it..i think DM is the wisest to distinguish that and they do the best work for us..all opinions are respected and taken care by them without leaving even any of us here.... :)

Alright, looks like the vote is in.

Remind me, this is a vote to remove the hampster balls, or just to use the 'less obtrusive' ones?

As i figure from OP, and poll question, seems we talking about taking less obtrusive spells.. Please though dont replace mirror image effect... Mirror image is cool as it is now... replacement is worse..

To me disable means remove, however effects other than the "hamster balls" don't really bother me. Except maybe the light spell, I find it annoying.

It is possible to get the light effect without having the associated ball of light by casting the spell on an equipped item instead of yourself.
