Missing boy quest

Post by Michael »

WOW.

Just F-ing wow.

Had the pleasure to run into the catacomb location as the first person there, and... I was blown away.

Whomever designed that area should receive a honorary invitation to any game design company.

The oponents are perfectly chosen. There are oponents resistant to slashing damage. There are oponents resistant to bludgeoning damage. There is a fight against casters. Attempts to loot the placeables are sufficiently random to keep you entertained (the peek-a-boo from within is a very, very nice touch!). Traps abound sufficiently to make my "Wee!" run turn into "Oh, shi-!" on the first corner (my first and only death occured 10 seconds upon entering the area  ). I love the traps. Nothing keeps you on the edge of the seat than knowing that the next click might have dire consequences!

The culmination of the quest is just excellent, with the ability to choose one's action. Unfortunately for me, Curtis has a tendency to hack everything to pieces (including bodies lying on a certain altar), so I was not able to get all the way through the evil-path (figured he'd be swayed by the possible gain of power enough to do that rather than just leave those things alone). Of course, having the ability to attempt to lie to the father at the end (with bluff skill in negatives) was also an amusing touch.

Definitely plan on repeating that quest, hopefully finding the area in its pristine state again.

My grateful thank-you to whomever managed to create something that kept me way past my bedtime

That place is simply a work of art.

I think this is... how do you say? Ah, yes... a sign of success from the Admins :)

Care to let us know at what level you dared the deadly catacombs? I'm 2 with my Warlock, and I'd like to know how long 'till I can go there

That area sucked me in like a uniformed schoolgirl encountering a lollipop...

I went there at level 3 - with an ECL of +3, however. For solo, I'd say it solely depends on your character build - should be doable 4+ in most cases.

Party, I'd say try at level 3 with two-three more people for the right amount of challenge (make sure to bring a rogue around). The place is perfect for a well balanced party - most likely you'll die, but it is far, far more immersive to go at it while it is challenging instead of just rushing through.

Despite having AC high enough to avoid most strikes, I still went through about 15 medium potions.

Did I mention bring in a rogue?

Once again... many, many thanks to whomever developed that gem of a place.

I've also had the pleasure of going through it once in pristine condition and I have to agree whole-heartedly with Michael's assessment.
