Where are my metalheads?

Post by Octavius »

I've noticed a distinct lack of true metaldom on Das, but I'd wager that you're just hiding. And I'm talking about real metal, not this newly popular pseudometal Disturbed, Slipknot, Staind stuff.

And by the by, have you heard of Dragonforce? kick arse shredding that's fairly new stuff .. check it out if you haven't. I highly recommend it.

*Raises hand*

Metallica, My Dying Bride, some Maiden, Rhapsody (which is a lot like Dragonforce from what I hear), Primal Fear, Edguy... I could go on.

We're around, Octavius, we just don't go out among, y'know... people.

Edit: Hold on a second.. People actually categorize Staind as "metal"?

Bwahahah.

I'm more of a rockster and alternative than metalhead, but most metal bands I can listen to. Heavy metal is pushing it, though. Usually. Depends, after I have heard a few songs.

Symphony X (Progressive Metal with slight power influences)
Dream Theater (Progressive Metal)
Pain of Salvation (Progressive Metal)
Opeth (Progressive Death Metal)
Rush (Progressive Metal)
Buckethead (Progressive Chicken Metal)
Yngwie Malmsteen (Heavy Metal with slight progressive elements)
Racer X (Wicked Fast Heavy Metal. Paul Gilbert FTW)

Some of my favorites in order of greatness.

Edit - Forgot Megadeath. (Heavy Metal)
Moreover, I advise that Carthage must be destroyed.

My best moment the other day was driving on barely any sleep and suddenly King Diamond's Abbigail comes on the radio.

Suffice to say I rocked out enough to never need sleep EVER AGAIN.

What's wrong with liking Nu-metal? Back in the days (har har) I was one of you. These days, I'm more silent. I found out that wearing black lipstick in every day life doesn't have a positive influence on people.

Alice in Chains, Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, Dimmu Borgir, Tristania, Children of Bodom, Deathstars

I think I'm more a glamrock person though. Marilyn Manson never bores.

I hope you'll still have me now that I admitted this. :(

Metal is metal is metal, my friend. And yeah, I was DF fan when DF was young, saw them live last year. Mostly, though, I opt for something heavier.

You'd be amazed what some people would call metal.

You don't need to dress for reactions just because you like certain musics. Just ask anyone on the Das IRC channel as I am constantly linking them to bands that to quote Jeh loosely, "Make me want to stab myself in the ears".

Your top - and by top I mean 1 and only 1 - favorite metal band and album as of right now. Old or new, whatever .... your 1 metal album to bring along with you on your deserted desert island, that you land on tomorrow.

GO -

Mine is 'Pelican - The fire in our throats will becon the thaw' .... i know there aren't any words, i just like it.
