NON PC city guards

Just wondering if the guards are actually able to be killed by PC's... I've seen a low level PC attempt it months ago but he was unsuccessful.

Can they be beaten? It doesn't make sense that every guard has seen countless battles and is now level 20.

It might make things more interesting (for evil characters) to have some of the NPC guards be lower level and not hard to bump off.

I dont think it makes sense for a single or even a group of players to "assault" a walled and fortified city with a strong military presence.

The guards are a symbolic representation of law and order in the city and are not meant to be xp or even entertainment. That is by design.

I would like to see villains come up with a more creative type of villainy than attacking npc guards. Thats uninspired in my book.

First thanks for the work you guys have put into the server :) thanks for the reply as well. Thanks to all PC guards , i've spoken to a few of them and they really add alot to the atmosphere.
Still there maybe reasons to do such things. Guards carrying coin to a treasury, perhaps to stake claim to an area within city walls for a short time, even perhaps to have a set of that cool looking guard armor :) Maybe you got a writ your not willing to pay or gaol time your not gonna serve if you can get away with it. The NPC guards as they stand right now only add to the look of the game not the feel of it. A city assault is not what i had in mind. HEHE thanks

A city assault, as you put it, would be what it would take to effectively take on the guards. Cear is a very important city in the Empire—it is in a perfect position to police the waterways on the eastern seaboard. It also happens to serve as a central harbour for trade and transit. The fortificaiton and security of Cear is vital to the Empire's economy.

Compound that with the many dangers facing the City, it will be of no surprise that the soldiers within Cear will be some of the finest in the Empire.

Further to that, I believe Jehannum is trying to encourage some more inspired villainy—it is easy to click on a guard and attack it. Let's see some real subterfuge and plotting, something that takes some real villainous cunning. In a large, fortified city with a heightened military presence, elements of the crime-world will have to adopt creative techniques if they wish to be successful in their various "business" ventures.

What i'm really after is something that will tempt the more evil aligned characters into crossing the line so to speak. Perhaps something along the lines of the Fur trader/Druidess quest, only involving guardsmen.
All the better if Good aligned PC's or fellow guardsman happen by at an inopportune time to be witness to the act.
A tax man collecting from the various businesses in the T&C district would be quite the prize but at a high risk.
A merchant caravan on its way into the city may be tempting to those with less noble character traits.
Adding conversation options for "sleight of hand" or worse could make things get alot more interesting real fast as well in my opinion.
Thanks again for all your hard work. Just hoping to pass along some ideas. Remember , not everyone is an evil genius there are alot of "thugs" out there too.

Those are great ideas, but thats not what you asked in your first post.

The primary purpose of the guards is, at this point to protect the quest NPCs , and secondly to prevent a team of three or four people from claiming they "conquered" the city. Believe me...Ive seen it, dealt with it before, whipped that horse, lived that nightmare, and a dozen more cliches for that kind of RP and activity that I consider utterly cliche.

So just by being there they are preserving the look and feel of the server by preserving the real content givers and merchants in the town areas, along with the symbolic references I made above.

There are 1000 quest ideas around the corner for any number of possible angles, and it just takes time.

We already have more opportunities for evil aligned characters in quest content than we ever did in Dasaria I, so I assure you that it is on our agenda to provide more and more choices that will affect a great many things about your play experience here.

One reason why we have avoided that kind of thing to this point is to allow the player guards a chance to get thier feet under them. They already get grief about what quests we do have involving guards. Soon...Soon.

thank you for taking the time to reply. I feel a little out of the loop not having experienced DAS1 so forgive me if i seem to be jumping the gun on things but i just didnt have anything to compare my present Das2 experience to i played NWN but it was on a different PW server and I think you've so far put that one i was used to to shame Thanks again.

The guards are killable, not very exciting to do so tho as they give no xp or anything for your trouble. If you want some real fun try the Talon Capitan in the mysty with the electric sword.

I should clarify... So I have heard about the capabilities of the guards, and that one in the Mystyvale looks exceptionally menacing.
