Crafting benches a little closer to town?

It would be a great update if we could get an alchemy and smithing bench someplace nearer to Ealden so we don't have to run all the way to Ironbacks or Gaol to make something.

Why would Ealden have a Alchemy table, and if he had a blacksmith, why would he let you use it? He has no qualms with charging insane fees and paying a fraction of the actual value of items sold to him.

I wonder if he has gnomish blood in him...

Yes, Risa has an alchemy bench. If there were a smithing bench nearby the fountain, would be fine.

Might I suggest having to pay a fine to use Ealden's smithy?

Ummm... Seems to me that from an aesthetic standpoint, no one in their right mind puts a random smithing station in the middle of a town square. Just my $.02.

I wasn't suggesting putting any benches in the middle of the town square. Just someplace closer than Ironbacks and Gaol.
There is an alchemy bench at Risa's, which is great. If there were a smithing bench near there, too, it would save a bunch of running around.

Personally, I think that having the smithing station at the Ironbacks' place is fine. After all... in real life you don't have big industrial manufacturing facilities in the middle of a commercial area most of the time. The smithing station is pretty much the middle-age equivalent to an industrial park... it's not pretty, it pollutes the air around it, and it's LOUD. I think it makes perfect sense to have it situated away from the more frequented parts of town.

By the way... if you don't want to run all the way to the Ironback Bros. smithy, you could always use the smithing station at the gaol... that's not a whole lot farther from the fountain than Risa's shop... though I can't imagine why anyone would do that from an RP standpoint, if you just want to get it done, go there and save 30 seconds.

Ealden has a smith shop right in North Cear. So much for it not belonging in town. It is just a hassle when someone wants something made to have to run all the way to Ironbacks or Gaol. Both are inconvenient. If it isn't possible to have another (closer) place, then so be it. But to make a point about location based on RP appropriateness, I think you would have to deal with the Ealden location.

If Ealden gets a smithing bench, I'd like to vote for Mae getting an alchemical bench, too. She does make potions, after all.

Well, as I'm not a DM or on the building team, I can't speak for the actual reasoning behind it. However, consider this possibilty:
The Ironbacks' operation is more focused on producing weapons and armor, where as Ealden is really more of a blacksmith, as he'll tell you... he just happens to keep a minimal supply of arms & armor in stock. From the looks of things, Ealden is much busier buying and selling things than he is hammering horseshoes. Also... having a forge suitable (size-wise) to heat up a breastplate is one thing... having a forge suitable (size-wise) to heat up a horseshoe or farming implement is quite another. It doesn't take much to make a horseshoe... I've done it. Also, let's not forget... 3 smiths hammering away and running separate large forges make a heck of a lot more air and noise pollution than one old guy making farm implements.
Consider also, Ealden't shop is
on the outskirts of the city... don't see too many (i.e.: 0) Nobles hanging out in North Caer amongst all we filthy adventuring types, and they'd be the most likely to object to having such facilities in certain areas.
The fact that he has a convenient location (as far as current PW content is concerned) and pays more for loot than anyone else is the main reason Ealden's always stocked with a large selection of more desirable gear than the Ironbacks... Not b/c he's crafting it. That being the case... as he's getting all the business, why would he allow any other smith (potential competition) to use his smithing station when he can send them running to his competition's facility, knowing that you're going to end up buying high-end gear from him anyway? Basically, he can afford to be a jerk, b/c his competition (the Bros.) aren't cutting it with their discounted prices and inconvenient location. It's a win - win situation for him.
Again, I'm not saying that IS the reason why we currently can't use Ealden's station... but they are plausible possibilities, nonetheless.
