Is NWN2 out of beta yet? I have a couple weeks of holidays coming up and wouldn't mind giving the game another try, but is it even fixed yet?

G'day Lanky,
the 1.06 beta patch is out, but there has been no mention of fixing the transition crashes at this stage

I used to get horrible transition crashes in dasaria...i mean horrible...sometimes it would crash, and it would crash 3 times in a row trying to get back in....
i dont get transition crashes at all in single-player
But for some reason, after Cearv10, i rarly ever get them anymore, most days it doesnt crash at all now,
Which was a blessing in that event thingy when the passage opened, woulda hated to have been crashing during that!

I crash less often.

I'm guessing that less crashes have nothing to do with Obsidian fixing anything and more to do with there being less people in North Cear at any given time (what with the new areas).

There is something wrong, for sure!

Yes there it this is something wrong for sure, I am know techyso the best I can do is:
Since the update before a crash the area around my char looks like a technicolour comic land and 1 in 3 crashes completely messes up my PC leaving me with turning it's power off at the plug socket.

Strangely enough, I just re-installed NWN2 the other day and had a couple of play sessions on Das lasting about 3 hours all up.
Didn't crash once.
I went through plenty of transitions, and no crashing at all.
Very stoked. Might be back for good now...

It certainly isn't as good as it should be, but I really haven't had any consistent crashing problems for a long time now.
Occasionally I'll crash once or twice in a row, but that's the extent of it.

A few other things mate you may want to consider (if not already done).
1. Get the Buff effects mod. That along reduced my crashing by 50%;
2. Defrag your hard drive regularly;
3. set your pagefile to 4092 for initial and maximum size;
4. play in fullscreen mode;
5. Graphics. I'm assuming you are running with the lowest settings anway. But I've found one can bump up the graphics settings quite a bit as long as you keep Shadows and Bloom effects OFF.
6. don't use internet intensive programs (i.e. such as bit torrent or have websites open with lots of ads) while you are playing
7. Kill any unnecessary processes that may be running in the background. For example I turn off I-Tunes and a few other things I have running
8. if you are an advanced user, you may even want to try implementing application-based QoS on your router.
9. If your computer has been up for the whole day, re-boot it before playing NWN2 to refresh the OS. In fact if you are advanced user you may even want to setup a separate local account that you only use to play NWN2; it doesn't load any other background applications except for OS processes.
10. *EDIT* Turn off Grass Effects. Thanks Pere, I completely forgot
Overall transition crashing for me has reduced from 4-7 times a night, to 0-3 times a night, and less severe crashes as well. OEI still need to fix it though

I hadn't thought of this contributing to more consistent play. I was just happy to have enchantments be less damn showy. Low-end spells to me shouldn't be so 'visual', and every stranger my character meets shouldn't be encapsulated in a strobing sphere.

Also, with patch 1.05 you can turn off the grass effects (like you could in NWN1), this also helps improve framerates and crashing, for me at least.
Also, where is this buff effects mod? The spell-buffs are too showy in this game compared to NWN1, and this is coming from a sorcerer of all things...
