New player here, with some questions
Hi, i recently stumbled onto this website and found it rather interesting. i used to play RP servers extensively during NWN1 days, but after it died off i went on my ways until now i thought id try it again.
I just wanted to know a few things, is it DM driven heavy? or usually its the players who are doing things? how often do DMs interact with players?
I was wanting to know if this is classed as a nwn2 original campaign rather than expansions? just wanted to know for example if fey/elementals/wraiths were classed as spirits, for the spirit shaman.
whats the leveling curve? are most people max level? or are there alot of people in between?
what timezone do players come from usually? and what times are most busy?
anything else a new player should know?
just wanted to ask these questions as i need to download the game cilent as my dvd isnt working.

Re: New player here, with some questions
Both the players and the DMs drive the storyline. I'd guess that the level of DM interaction is as good as any NWN PW. There's a DM on at some point almost everyday. If you're looking for a pen and paper type experience, there are weekly DM lead campaigns you could join.
The server is running with the expansions. There are creatures in the game classified as spirits. Not as many as you find in MotB. Spirits are not the focus of the campaign.
The leveling curve question is hard to answer. Some people play all day every day and reach level 20 in a week. Some people play once a week and take years to reach level 20. Characters are created and retired all the time, so there's always a lot of people in between levels 1 and 20.
American and European timezones are the most popular timezones. I'd say between noon and midnight American time it's fairly busy with American evenings being the most busy.
Listen to what the in game Ambassador tells you. She will say there's work to be found in the city. It's dangerous outside the city walls. Get a level or two before you leave the safety of the city walls. Talk to all the NPCs. Listen to what they have to say. And if they don't have anything to say to you at your current level, talk to them again after leveling.

Re: New player here, with some questions
Welcome to Dasaria.
It seems Rob touched on everything already. If you are interested in a PnP style group, one is in the process of forming with a regularly scheduled DM: The eUmenides eXperience
There are several groups like this that run parallel to the other events happening in-game and various forms of DM interaction ranging from the random, to player-led factions, to these sorts of PnP style groups.
Fun for the whole family.

Re: New player here, with some questions
Welcome. Rob pretty much covered it, but here is a thread (viewtopic.php?f=34&t=9376) that the community has started to put together to help answer a few of the common questions that people who are just starting out in the world tend to ask. If you have more questions, please post them and it has been my experience that people are always happy to help.

Re: New player here, with some questions
oh another thing i just wanted to run by this idea for a character...
A person who wakes up in a middle of a field without knowing what or who he is, and where he came from. apart from his clothes and his a strange book with a blank cover and its contents full of runes and symbols he doesnt understand on the inner page the words"Malek-Torum". He doesnt know what these words mean nor if its a name of a person or book.
this is basically my idea so i can have a character without looking at any lore, and i can adapt as i go along. Hes an aasimir which gives him the sensitivity to the spirit world, for his spirit shaman class.
My idea for him learning spirit shaman levels is from his slow understanding of the book. His past and the origins of the book will be uncovered through time.
oh and his name he will use will be the one from the book as he doesnt know his real name.

Welcome to Dasaria
That character concept sounds fine. I often tell people to they should have a background which is open to DM involvement if they want it, but can stand on its own as well. You can learn a good bit of lore in-game from NPCs and other players. Although since you've already found the forums I'm sure you've poked around a bit.

That's a good point, and one I forgot to bring up. As long as a character bio doesn't involve NPCs or modification of the game world you don't need DM permission for anything. Just create you character and have fun.hannahcoldkiller wrote:No need to ask; just do you, Boo...
