Getting jumped at transitions

Post by k9burn »

This isn't so much as a bug, but a design issue.

I noticed (especially in the bugbear cave), there are times your party transitions into an area, and immediately gets attacked by aggressive monsters.

I suspect its this way to add some element of surprise, but when considering mechanical issues:

1) Not all players load at the same time (some have slower machines)
2) Some players crash on transitions
3) The camera goes into a weird state sometimes when you transition

...it might be better to allow players some breathing room after they transition.

Hope this suggestion helps :)

creates tend to follow you when you run for your life... I haven't been in that cave yet but that could explain why they are there :)

The encounters in the bugbear caves are currently working as intended. When someone triggers an encounter, and then leaves, those creatures will persist there, at the entrance. Nothing we can do about that.

perhaps make a few tunnels that lead into the areas.. then when there is no chars on the lvl or they have fled off the map have the monsters wander back to where they orginally spawn. This should be thought of on the way out of a dungeon as well. Nothing worse then being jumped by a entire mob just because you happened to load up first. Espcially when your party could have made sure you survived if it were not for loading issues.

On a NWN1 server I used to play on they collapsed the zones that no one was in. 1) this had a huge effect on lag as the server didn't have to keep the zone up while no one was in it and 2) it would solve the mobs being right at the zone in as they would reset as well. They have a script in place also to prevent folks from zoning in and out just to respawn the mobs and chests. I am not a scripter but you can talk to the folks of Neversummer 4 if ya are interested in trying to make this work. Who knows might even work for NWN2 *shrug* just a thought.
