If I log in the server again and find only 2 of 11 players visible in the scry, I'm just going to throw up my hands in exasperation and remove it. What's the point?
People lobbied for this because they claimed it would make it easier to form parties and ~70% it seems have, despite what they told us, permanently opted out.
I'll be very sorry to admit that so far it looks like those who said it would only be used for metagaming and stalking and would contribute nothing were right and that I was in the wrong for supporting it.
I actually find the anonymity feature to be very useful. If I go out into the battlegrounds, I set myself to anonymous. The reason I do this is because if someone finds me, I wish them to find me, not go "Oh, look, he's over there, lets prepare an attack for him because we know where he is."
That said, I also use it for the exact opposite reason. I also use it to find someone to RP with, if I'm in the mood, and there aren't a lot of people standing around.
For me, it is a tool. I don't want hammers that demand that I use them, when I'm busy fixing my plumbing. If anonymity being used, or not used, in any fashion is a problem, I'd ask that it be taken out, so that its not an issue I have to deal with. Otherwise, I love it. It helps me connect up with people when I need to, and it lets others find me for RP, when I'm around in the world at large. When I jump into an area where PvP is one of the main focuses, it also lets me vanish, unless someone actually does the work to find me.
Now, I'm aware some people might have a problem with the fact that I turn on anonymous in the OLM. I don't know of anyone specific, and even if I did, finger pointing rarely solves anything, so I will leave it at this: I've been playing since you couldn't get an entire party through a transition without half of them crashing. We didn't have KEMO Scry then, and we didn't for a good long while after that. If we lived with not being able to find people at will then, we can live with it now. This is a tool, a helpful device, and boon, not a requirement.
I apologize if in this, I offended anyone, but that is how I see it, and feel being up front would accomplish more, if anything is to be accomplished or discussed.
