I'd love to participate in a tournament, even though i'd probably get slaughtered as Darion is only lvl 16 xD

Anyways, in my opinion:

-NO Pre-buffs whatsoever.
-NO Healing
-Caster vs. Caster and Melee vs. Melee (Arcane Archers would count as a melee'er here, not a caster.)
-Best of Three rounds wins the match.

This should be a real tournament of each character's personal skills in combat. Just like the old gladiators of Rome.
I am aware that HiPS is seen as overpowered, but somehow, i find this sad. HiPS is a skill that the character has learned from hard training after all :)

HiPS is overpowered in some respects, primarily in that it doesn't enforce the hiding rules (Hiding in an actual shadow). In the end though, the rules are there to make it fun for the most people. If a lot of people think HiPS is overpowered and a fight against a HiPS user is unfun for a lot of people, then it makes some sense to limit it or remove it. I agree that to use HIPS you should be standing in a darkness spell.

Archetypal HiPSer vs. fighter-type in a no-healing situation, my money's on the fighter. Unless you're dropping SD in a build that can already go toe-to-toe.

Ranger doesn't need darkness, only natural cover; the Arena is a non-natural environment however.

I recommend against HiPS only because you don't go to a Tournament to see people hide or go invisible. It's fine for sneak-thievery and back-stabbery. It's more about the principle that people have come to see a contest of martial prowess, so give 'em the show they came for.

Since there's already going to be fifty bazillion brackets and rules (much unlike gladiators of rome: here.. unleash the lions, elephants, tigers on these men and watch them all be obliterated) What about a rogue bracket? Where you could do HIPspamming because it's rogue vs rogue.. if the other rogue does not have HIPs then that's their fault and the one who does.. well kudos to them. Then in the end ( I'd enjoy seeing Bart vs Hyel :P) But do a match between the best melee vs melee, rogue vs rogue, wizard vs wizard ( maybe even diffrent lvl reqs so the 1st lvlers can get in on some fun too and win a trophy :D) and then in the end grand finalle stage, put the winners against each other to have a rogue, fighter, and wizard in the same arena battling each other

Keep it simple :) No groinkicking and no biting. Have a day been chosen for this yet?

What's the final date/time/place/rules for this? Is it this weekend? I'll tweet it and put an in-game announcement up.

The tournament will be a while still. I usually do these things well in advance. Last time, it was half a month after the discussion finished, so that everyone could be there. I'll let everyone know when and such, though

Shorn mate, 1st of October should be good, everyone back from holidays started Uni etc etc even the DM's shouldn't have an excuse to miss it then and it's a good time for a build up for all those of us that turn our gaming hours up through the cold months. (The Dasarian water rule is one exception the women have)
