A Message Left.

Post by Mon-da-oth »

Reginald finished penning the letter and carefully folded the parchment after resting his pen in the ink well. He tapped the edge of the letter to allow the dust that was used to hurry the drying ink to pour off onto the table in a small pile and he gave his room a brief glance before stepping out into the hallway and exiting down the staircase on the main level.

The lower murmur of mixed languages rose as he descended the stairs of the only inn in Ravenswatch to stand at the owners desk.

Oberon raised his gaze from his books as Reginalds shadow fell across him. "What do you want?" he asked almost mockingly, as if he might not actually care what a patron of his inn would want.

"I have a letter for Kadmiel Greywolf of the Daybreak Alliance or I suppose anyone of that group." Reginald could barely keep a sneer out of his voice at the thought of having to work with the former rebel group.

Oberon was quick to pick out the disdain in Reginalds voice. "Why do you assume I know anything about this group?" He took the letter from where Reginald had laid it on the counter. "There is no seal."

"What is the point of a seal if it would just be cut open after I left and if you don't know anything about the Daybreak Alliance then why would you worry about a seal?" Reginald didn't try to hide his distrust of the Elven Inn Keeper.

Oberon dropped the letter on his counter. "I am a busy person and I don't have time for these games Varanite."

"Nor do I." Reginald replied. "But we now have a common enemy and misfortune has shoved us together against them. They can find me here should the letter somehow come into their possession." Reginald turned and headed back towards his group waiting in the common area.

Oberon looked at the letter rubbing his thumb over the edge of the parchment. As Reginald sat down he placed the letter in a draw under the desk before turning back to his books.

Several weeks had passed without word from Oberon before Reginald approached the Inn Keeper with a polite smile. "I owe you an apology sir."

Oberon looked up from his desk. "You don't owe me anything except for the cost of the room."

Reginald's smile dropped from his face. "I assumed that you couldn't get my message to Kamdiel Greywolf or one of his companions. Seeing as I have had no word or meeting with them I have to assume that you have no connection to them. I will take my letter back if you will."

"I don't have it." Oberons expression was plain.

"You don't have it? Does that mean that they did receive it and decided not to respond?" Reginald inquired, frustration tinging his voice.

"It means that I don't have it. Nothing more." The elf turned his back and returned to his books.

Reginald's face flushed red with irritation and he rested his hand on the handle of his rapier before turning sharply and striding into the common room.

"A hundred coins to the individual who Samil the Bard claims carried this message to him!" He scanned the crowd before beginning.

" Reginald Schudotter and company has a job for the Free Vanguard. If they are willing they are to meet us here in Ravenswatch come next evening."

"Thank your Thunderheart", Sam pauses to digest. "If you see him before I...tell him three bells before midnight. Here"
