Same here. Seeing OOC in general chat does detract from the immersion factor. But in party chat, if everyone is cool with talking OOC, it can be a real blast, making jokes and such.Grayle wrote:Typically, when in-game...I'm almost always IC in my general chat, and am mostly OOC in Party chat
You hit it right on the head.Grayle wrote:Role-assumption is actually more important to me than role-playing.
I sometimes am IC in party mode, but typically if there is some barrier between my character and the rest of the party. For instance, say my character has climbed a ladder and is in a different zone...I might *Yells down that it is "all clear!"* or something.
I've seen TELLS used to represent *A familiar-sounding hunting horn is blown from near the main gate* as sort of an IC "Come'ere" to friends. I've seen them used as some vague ESP power *THE EYE OF NERGAL IS UPON YOU!* Creative uses of the communication can be fun, and helps with avoiding using the channels as meta-gaming. "ROGAR'S Attacking me! Everybody come here and help!" I don't care for PvP encounters in a medieval world where it seems everyone's got a two-way radio headset, even if they are using one in RL. However, I think that NwN2's chat channels leave much to be desired.
I tend to avoid parties that have characters spread out all over the place, too. Those, to me, aren't a good example of a party working together. It's an In-Game chatroom.
But, people are probably starting to get my general bias. We all play this sort of game for different reasons, each valid, but my particular bent is towards a 'cinematic' or 'literary' experience. I don't like it when people talk when I'm trying to watch the movie.
I didn't come to Dasaria to make EFriends, although I have been fortunate to do so. I came here to portray a character and watch him grow and learn, and kick ***!
