Player etiquette
Greetings,
Most of you know that I am a builder as well as a player. Please note that the following is my opinion AS A PLAYER. In no way is this meant to come off as server rules. The fact that I am a builder makes my opinion a bit biased, I will be the first to admit that. However, this is the way I try to act while playing.
Respect for your fellow players. There are people behind the characters, as has been stated many times. While you may argue and bicker and fight IC, try your best to remain respectful, or at the very least, civil with regards to another player's feelings.
Fairness in regards to loot. I've played a good many MMOs, and I've come up with a saying - "Loot is the root of all evil". While this is a generalization and not always true, in my experience loot is the cause of about 90% of arguments. I'll spare you details of how bad I've seen situations get just because of loot. While grouping, rushing and looting everything turns people off. Even if you share what you rush-loot, folks get miffed. Everyone likes to open that chest and see what's inside. Spread that around.
Don't stealth run/invis through dungeons for loot again and again, especially if there is a group fighting through the content. Dungeons are put in to make things a challenge. If the builders wanted it to be easy to get loot, they'd put an unending supply of it withing easy reach. If you find a place you can invis/stealth run through easily, you may want to mention that to the builders. Keep it a challenge. My rogue CAN sneak through content and loot everything, but I do not. The main reason why I do not is because that loot then has no meaning to me. I did little to earn it. Another reason is the place was not meant to be looted in such a way.
Don't exploit the system. Most of you would not believe the amount of time that goes into tracking down exploits, loopholes, etc. This is time wasted, time that should be put into adding content. If you try to get a quest you've done before and can't get it, it's a good guess that there is a level cap on that quest. If you find away around that level cap you should make a bug report, not level up over and over off of it. I will say that, as a builder, the bug report forum has been a godsend. It's trimmed DAYS off of the process of squashing the bugs.
There are other things I could mention, but those listed above are really the crux of my post. To summerize:
Play nice.
Play fair.
Share.
Dont exploit. Bug report instead.
Most of all have fun, and try to make the game fun for everyone.
Will this post solve problems? Doubtful. Will it make some people think? Hopefully. Will it make life better? If I knew how to do that I'd be a rich man.
Thanks for your time.

P.S. Feel free to add your ideas as well!

If I could slightly chyme in here, and I don't by any means to hijack this thread.
My biggest peeve is respect for the world.
Simply because a DM Is not on, to play NPC's doesn't mean you should blatantly break world ..physics so to say.
Take for example, My character frequently likes to ask characters to disarm themselves within City Walls. I've had certain PC's, mock me and and laugh asking me what am I gonna do about. I am much lower than them, don't plan to get in a PVP Grief fest - at the same time these players should respect that they are surrounded by 5 or 6 guards at some points, even Captains of the Watch. Simply because a DM Is not there to possess a guard, walk over and ask you to put away your weapon - doesn't mean you shouldn't act as IF that was possible. This bugs me more than anything, as I"ve seen some characters have a complete disregard for lore, and common practices set down by the DM and Admin team, and general policy.
Again, sorry to butt in on this thread - but this is a biggy for me.

Would an ooc discussion of a loot order be inappropriate before the party heads out into the dungeon?
We used to do it alphabetically in EQ and then made sure everyone had at least one good item at the end. Sometimes one chest might have +2 item and another just 150g. Opening the chest is a joy for sure, but a fair loot at the end means something as well....

Well as a player I believe everyone should get something out of a dungeon. But as Lok'Tok I belive everyone should stop complaining and let me have everything.
Usually if I find an Item I say something OOC like; ((Hey I found a +1 heavy shield, does anyone need it?))
If noone needs it I rifle it away into my pack of many things. If someone does then I give them the item OOC and act as if I never found a heavy shield in the first place.
EDIT: And as for the joy of opening chests? Well... if you aren't going to risk your parties safety and have a chance of people calling you a thief. Then you don't DESERVE to open that chest.

If its Rhode you are confronting, he will be mean, nasty and disrespectful and won't really care a rats butt about who is around. So far he hasn't bothered to have his weapon out but there have been a few RP times when he thought someone was telling him to put his weapon away and he got smart with the individual. Several others jumped in saying that he should be more respectfull and so he got smart with them as well.Minuvas wrote:If I could slightly chyme in here, and I don't by any means to hijack this thread.

I would hope than no one would take this as OOC statesments/behavior as its just the attitude of the character.

I think half the problem with putting weapons away is that it is a (relative) pain. You can no longer unequip off the quickslot, so its a pain to go into inventory and sort it out when you are just rushing through. Then when some vigilante group with no authority gets all upity, wellllll, you just have to bait them
I don't feel any shame, I won't apologise

A problem I have noticed is higher level characters aggroing three mobs at once hording the spawns for themselves in North Caer. I find this to be very inconsiderate of other players. Kill one maybe two mobs then move on but don't run around gathering all the mobs in the area.
Whenever I see this occur I tend to attack one of the uninjured mob's to *help* them.

heh, it bugs me when people 'help'. I've run around looking for a spare spot, avoided helping anyone, spend time getting this spawn down to low hps, and some 'helpful' sod comes up and kills it getting the xp. Whats that all about aye?
random attacks my target
me - oi! mineminemine
random - no answer
me - *pushes them over*
random - gets up and attacks without saying a word
me - *pushes them over and stands on them*
random - repeats
me - *hold person* wait there *waggles finger*
Finish killing thing.
me - well?
random - runs off
me - *throws mud* you ignorant.. <beep> <beeep> <beeeper>
