Vigilantism

Post by Wingnut »

Gnote, sitting on the cool grass in front of the Mistyvale Inn, is jotting notes in his pad of parchment.

"This song has great potential!" He says to no one, "but the tempo needs work, and the tale has not yet fully been told..."

He pulls out his flute and plays the song in it's entierty, focused intently on the tone, the tempo, the words.

"Yes" he again says to no one "It most definatly needs work... But it is coming along nicely..."

"Who was the dwarf?" an unfamiliar voice say. Gnote snaps out of his introspection.

"Oh, I'm sorry, beg pardon?" Gnote asks as he turns and regards a bearded halfling.

"The dwarf, who was he?" the halfling asks.

"The dwarf? You know, I do not know his name. I've heard tales of his doings, enough so that a song seemed apt".

"Hrmm" says the halfling, rubbing his beard "Perhaps you should go talk to Mistress Firestein. If anyone knew of this dwarf, she'd be the one."

"Truely? I shall go..."

"HALT!" yells a new voice. Gnote turns to see a gnome running down the main street, a heavily armed human and what appeared to be a dwarf monk hot on his heels. Gnote watches as the gnome is thrown bodily to the ground then murdered in clear daylight.

A flash of anger and outrage fills Gnote's expressive, gnomish eyes. To anyone that knew Gnote, the flash would have been so foreign to them that they'd have swore it was a different gnome.

"This 'Watch'... Vigilanties is what they are. Mob mentality..." says Gnote in a low, angry voice. He has witnessed much of the same of late, as the 'Watch' grew in numbers.

"The dwarf lady, I'm sure she can help you" says the halfling, walking off. He had seen the assult same as Gnote. His expression indifferent, Gnote guessed the Ling had seen the same before. Like most of the populous of Cear, they had become used to the bullying of the 'Watch'.

"Yes, the Dwarven lass.. Thank you again for the information, my good sir!" Gnote says to the departing Ling.

"I cannot fight this 'Watch' with swords" Gnote thinks, "for they are much to strong. Perhaps, however, I could fight them wih song?"

As Gnote makes his way towards the Trades and Commons and the Firestein Brewery, he flips the page of his pad of parchment and starts to write a new song...
