Being out of town had its implications. Changes took place in the corners of the city. People arrived, fought, made love, and passed into obscurity. And then, places like this opened in what was essentially a residential neighborhood.
This was her return, and she felt compelled to immerse herself in the city. Sights, scents, tastes--and all the more. Her wanderings took her into seedy corners and sacred grounds. And then it brought her down the street that Fashion First was running on.
The dark-haired woman of twenty-something stopped and pressed her hand against the wall, tilting her head to look within the window of "Fashion First". Obscurities were her fascination and here was a shop opened up in the middle of nowhere, selling high class clothes to your average commoner.
Driven by an insatiable curiosity, the woman--wearing some treated leathers and simple working clothes--stepped inside. Standing at 69 inches, notably fit. Her center of gravity was set low--she had a strong back and thighs, but her wide hips added a flair of femininity. Oddly, she'd painted her nails in a strange fashion. Only three nails on her left hand and two on her right, and the nails were painted with strange designs in black, almost like lettering. It was the kind of habit of a bored teen girl, notable when she reached out. And did she reach! The woman fingered cloth and frills and laces and silks as she passed by them, apparently lacking proper shopping etiquette. Her hair, kept long but tied up, had a natural smooth straightness to it. Not a wave or curl all the way down her back. This gave her a sort of watered down foreign appearance when combined with her warm, yellow-tan skin tone. Judging by the style of clothes however she was very much Dasarian. Dasarian, and attracted to eccentricities.
Lucius sat at his desk where he was finishing up their accounts while thinking back on last night’s events. He glanced at the bedroom door behind which Yaassima was dressing up for a day in the life of their other ‘career path’. It was a while now since the guild went into ‘silent mode’ after some disturbing reports and messages he had received. For a moment he had feared -and his woe nodule on his back was still itchy- of his guild being infiltrated. It wouldn’t be the first time, but the last time it happened, like a few years and something ago, it had almost ripped apart his beloved Circle.
It was yet to be seen how to handle and deal with the rumors and the information, but for now he was just Lucius Eberhardt, a fair businessman and he limited his nightly outings to observing the city and its alleys from the rooftops. It was amazing still what a man could learn just from up there. By now he knew who cheated on who, who was into shady business, which people were prepared to make their hands dirty, and which ‘upright’ and ‘honest’ people were open to bribery after all.
And all he did with the intel for now was just storing it.
The door of his shop opened and closed. Lucius looked up from behind his desk on the other side of the counter. He witnessed a young girl entering the shop and thanks to his keen sight and an innate sensitivity to details he already had detected 90% of her features during the first seconds.
A rope dancer, just like Yaassima, was the first thing that crossed his mind in an automatic attempt to classify the person moving toward the first clothing rack at the side of the shop. And one with probably a noticeable taste despite the simple outfit she is wearing, if not future taste...
His lips twitched a bit when he perceived her behaviour, her body language, but above all her appearance. It was nothing sexual. Yaassima knew by now when his icy blue eyes took in a customer’s looks, he was just being professional. He rather made an attempt to ‘read’ some of his customer’s preferences and possible tastes beforehand in the hope to learn more.
Over the past he also had learned most people just liked to be left alone during the first moments in a shop. All one needed to do was letting them get used to the place, let them explore. And if you continued to observe them discretely during such moments, even more was ‘told’ about them.
The rest was quite obvious, at least to him. Basically, every consumer should be considered a hunter, not a victim that needed to be beset with the latest fashion news supplemented with sweet-mouthing. It is the customer who was in search of something to buy.
One of his mouth corners turned up and his eyes gleamed in anticipation. His and Yaassima’s part was easy. Helping this girl to find an service, product and an experience that would be worth a lot more to her than the hard earned cash in her purse. Whereas he could trick someone easily in his other life, here in this life a few other rules applied. And the best path to success was not to trick the customer into a useless purchase, but to genuinely show them they could walk out here with something exclusive and something that surpassed all their expectations.
He glanced a moment at his work and added a few more notes.
Somehow the girl reminded him of Cuhanna, but then he shook his head, pushed the log back and decided to meet up with her, make her feel at home.
The man dressed up in fashionable silky black clothes mixed with dark blue, giving him an appearance somewhere between a roguish yet dashing duelist and a well-dressed merchant, got up from behind his desk and soundlessly due the thick carpet made his way to the clothing section. A simple cough made the girl turn around and see him.
He bowed lightly,” Welcome miss in Fashion First. My name is Lucius Eberhardt -one of the two managers- and at I’m at your disposal for an unlimited amount of time. Perhaps I can offer you a drink from the house while you look around?”
His mouth was turned up slightly at the sides in a gentle smile, his facial expressions relaxed and his steady gaze met hers.
