So in short, no. No, you do not know half as much about RP as you think you do. You should never role play for yourself, instead role play for your fellow players.

I don't particularly like being a low level Drow rogue, because other players correctly RP the situation and say they don't want to hunt with Drow, or will try to kill Drow, or even not sell to Drow. (Which is an issue, since Drow can only buy healing potions, as their only option is four finger discounts, not the apothecary). It makes the experience, dare I say, unenjoyable, even though it's being RPed correctly.

But at he same time, it's poor RP for a thief to snatch things away from other PCs (or a Drow female to tell some surfacer male "tough luck, male scum") because other PC's don't enjoy that? Sorry, I guess I just don't get it.

If you don't like playing a drow, roll something else. You might get partied more often with a human, until you rob them or kill them.

And yes, any player, any race, who does not want pvp should make it known and be left alone. BUT if they jump into a pvp confrontation then all bets are off. Does that make sense?

It's poor RP for a thief to snatch items away and then the PC has no way of getting it back. EVER.

Well Cain, you make a good point :p That's one of the reasons people are often unsure about allowing the drow race. By choosing to play a CG or CN drow rogue you've given yourself one of the hardest roles to play. You can't come off overly coy and playful, because drow are rarely coy or playful. You can't steal heartlessly because you're good (or neutral) and you aren't too able to give back what you've taken because people are quick to attack a drow.

See what I mean? I'd have to know how you played your drow before I could really give you a straight answer on what you could do with that situation.

In other words, people that don't want to RP and make it explicitly known will tend to avoid situations that will lead to PvP.

we had drow on our server in NWN1. During the day they were usually out of sight, they came out mainly at night, wearing masks and helms that covered their face.

Cant the drow just wear a hoodie or something?

There aren't any masks that cover faces completely. If there were I would get them and wear them when doing "questionable" activities.

Well, I enjoy he challenge (an evil Drow is just too... well, easy) and I'm pretty sure I'm doing it well, so feel free to find me online.. and maybe have something stolen from you.

Quite often it's simply extortion to join in on the quest. Seems to be the only way anyone'll give a Drow a break.

Alright. I gotcha. By the same token, if you don't like a loner rogue snatching your loot... party with him/her or chase him/her off at knifepoint, or roll a rogue yourself.

I don't expect people to like the rogue who stole from them, but I wanted to be sure it wasn't grieifing, and I'm sure it's not now - at least for my char.

Cain... So if I PP your equipment from you should I just say. "Go get it again, all it takes is time"? The problem is that even if they chase you off and/or succeed in killing you all it does is move you farther away. It doesn't get your items back.

heh, i bought a hood on my tiefling char to cover her horns too :p
it worked pretty well!

(as a side note: do NOT enable tails on tieflings, not all of them got tails! well it should be a switch at character creation, stupid obsidian >.<)

Well, no, you shouldn't be OOC about it, (or violate server rules by PP spamming), but you should respond to the offer I make in that situation. Return my X and give me Y amount of gold (based on my mood at the time. ) NOW or I'll feed you to my spider/impale you on my short swords/show you what tinder feels like (or something else slightly amusing I come up with, based on my character).

If the thief doesn't respond favorably before starting to take off... I have new spider chow, and banish the thief from the area for an hour. (And make a journal entry and tell them that if they get caught a second time results in permanent hostile setting and KoS status.) And, of course, people have the same sort of options with kill/loot "stealing." Tell the guy that if he keeps it up, and/or doesn't return whatever, he'll lose his head. Given that loot and kill stealers are generally weaker characters (hence the need to steal; they can't get it on their own), it works well. And in my experience, following through on the threat even once results in much less theft in the future.

Only, and only if it is to the entertainment of both parties involved (i.e. considerate and well played RP situation).

NwN PWs are meant to provide entertainment, not frustration and/or aggrevation akin to the big-name MMORPGs. They are smaller in population, and thus can be better policed to assure everybody involved takes pleasure from playing - something well neigh impossible on larger-scale MMORPGs.

NwN PWs are communities, with all the dynamics involved, but in the end revolve around the gameworld equally accomodating all the players.

Well, that's clearly not true, or PP would be disabled on this server and it would be totally no PvP. After all, people are not entertained by getting killed or stolen from, even in an IC context.

And while we're on the subject, I find the following things "unentertaining" and request that they be made against server rules.

PC builds that are more powerful than my current build character (lvl 1 Sorc) - they might be able to kill me, so could we please ban everyone until I level up to level 40?
Humans - how boring.
Buildings - how cliche, like every PW has buildings.
The letter "T" - I dunno, it just creeps me out. Surely "common" in this fantasy world has no letter like the letter "T" in its alphabet.

This discussion, so I'm done with it.

If you think getting pickpocketed, or having a thief refuse to give you back something he stole, just because you asked is bad RP or against server rules, or just plain unfun , by all means contact a DM about it. I'm sure they'd be delighted to take time off of legitimate issues and world building to hear about how don't like it when you lose stuff, so losing anything at all should never be a possibility in this PW.

Next time I see your Dark Elf characters, Cain, I am going to kill them and ask you to leave for an hour. When you return, I will do this again. My RP reason is that you are a Drow. My character (now) hates Drow.

Now, disregarding my statement above:

Should I change my decision because it's an easy and lame RP excuse? No. Within the rules.

Is that an example of a role-playing choice that interferes with a players fun? Yes, but it is within the rules.

Should I change my decision because it interferes with your fun? Yes. We'll see if that ends up mattering to me.
