Yeah, me too. *Clasps hands together in anticipation* Do it!
Actually i say overall.. the underlying system has been degraded.lankycheese wrote:I'm not complaining about the graphics, I'm complaining that it's the only part of the game which has been improved over the original.
This is because they could not reverse engineer Neverwinter Nights 1 from the patches.Zephis wrote:Actually i say overall.. the underlying system has been degraded.lankycheese wrote:I'm not complaining about the graphics, I'm complaining that it's the only part of the game which has been improved over the original.
Graphics are better.. but the engine is sloppy as we've all seen.
seems also that some things, skills feats etc aren't working correctly either.
For example, shield monks.. or the priests that can stack HP buffs i recall them both from NWN1 1.00
As we say here at Blizzard: "Luckily we have an Online game. If we are not ready with everything, it can always be added in the next patch."

I hate that (not you, and I saw theat the end) just the whole attitude that surrounds games these days. I know its a flogged subject, but it doesn't bode well for the future.
NWN2 hasn't even been out for half a year yet Evelond. I'd hope you're not comparing what it's capable of now before it recieves all it's patch love and people still learning how to make the toolset dance the jig to Original NWN after it's had years of patches, haks, models, etc made.Evelond Formos wrote:Personally, I think the game is a failure.
It should be stripped of its title "NwN2" and be replaced with "NwN 0.03".
Forget the graphics, I liked NwN1's better.
Anything you can do in this game you could easily do in NwN1, and you could do a heck of a lot more in NwN1.
Although, full credit to Dasaria's builders; seeing the poor tools you were handed, you did a great job.
I think Bioware should have made this, instead of those folks at Obsidian with obsidian for brains.
I have to disagree with you on all counts except the first.Evelond Formos wrote:Personally, I think the game is a failure.

What happened to releasing a working game?
Although... Company of Heroes by THQ. No idiotic anti-piracy protection slowing your computer to a crawl and making sure that you'll have to repurchase the game you love in a year or so on account of all the scratches on the CD/DVD itself...
I haven't even bothered to download their patches (v 1.04 now) because they mostly deal with multiplayer or some really minor fixes.
It can be done. It just pays more not to from investor's point of view. Somebody treating the game creation process as a way of making money does not care for the game or the gamers, just profit marigin.
Unfortunately. Perhaps it is time for gamers to begin exercising the only power we have... direction of the content of our wallets.
I grew up preordering/purchasing on release. Now, with a few notable exceptions (*sigh* NwN2), I just wait three months to half a year to play a game simply because that's about how long it takes for it to be fully ready -after- the release...
Falcon said everything I wanted to, I just didn't want to seem like I was trolling. All the builders I've worked with have said pretty much the same stuff.Falcon wrote:I have to disagree with you on all counts except the first.Evelond Formos wrote:Personally, I think the game is a failure.

NWN2 was a failure on delivery. Whether or not it continues to be a failure remains to be seen. Patches can bring a game out from its grave and back on its feet—we're not even two months in yet.
The graphics are most decidedly better, if you have a graphics card that can make use of it. If you don't, the graphics will still be better, just not as visually beautiful as it could be.
NWN1 was a fantastic tool—NWN2 is even better. Visually speaking, I can accomplish a lot more using the NWN2 toolset than I ever could with the NWN1 toolset. When I brainstormed for a new area to build for Dasaria back in NWN1, I was limited in what it would look like and how it would shape out.
In NWN2, those limitations simply don't exist. I can literally create any kind of area using several textures at once, where I was dependant on a tileset in NWN1. This creates literally limitless opportunities.
Not even getting into height mapping. In NWN1 I was stuck with ramps and "step-up" elevation. This was smoothed out in haks, but not perfected. In NWN2 I can literaly sculpt the land as I please. What was "guess-work" in NWN1 has become art. It now takes a semblance of artistic skill to create something wondrous in NWN2. I could literally go on.
This is definitive improvement over NWN1, and I honestly can never look back.
Bull. If they had any semblance of reason, Bioware would have used a good source repository. Source repositories can be very complex and handle code branches, main lines, patch releases, etc..This is because they could not reverse engineer Neverwinter Nights 1 from the patches.
They had to take the original code and adjust it for a new engine. Of course this will create a lot of the same bugs, and I am sure these would have been fixed had it not been for the financial state of the company itself.
