Just my 2 cents worth..the fact that someone plays a drow, mean a +2 level adjustment, which also means taking alot more xp to level up, i reckon if a normal race was lvl 3, the drow would still be lvl 1.
This ALONE will stream out the true blue drow rp-ers from the wannabes. True, the stats for the drow are impressive, but the level adjustment is a decent deterance. Considering how hard it is to gain xp in dasaria.
My only problem with the people that play drows, is that they dont bother to hide their identities. We have drows walking around without even a hood over their heads under the bright morning sun.
The drows will not want KoS, simply because their chars cant hope to pvp with people higher level than them

now, to be completely out of context and maybe a bit wierd, I used to have nightmares about that when I was little. After watching a hammer house film. It was one where the plumbing in the house ruptured and spewed blood all over.Mon-da-oth wrote:Showering in blood doesn't count.
Anyone know which one? 20 years later and I wanna see it again ;P

That's one stupid dead drow. I don't get it.zak_fel wrote:My only problem with the people that play drows, is that they dont bother to hide their identities. We have drows walking around without even a hood over their heads under the bright morning sun.

Drow may not want to be EoS, but I don't think they have a choice. Being able to PvP or not is an ooc game possibility and should not be taken into consideration, imho. This isn't a PvP/Arena server. Unless something changed that while I wasn't looking.
If you're wanting to play drow you'll have to deal with the consequences.
But the same goes for Thieflings, I'd presume.

Try leveling a Deep Gnome ... LA +3... i'm level 3 with 20,000 xpzak_fel wrote: This ALONE will stream out the true blue drow rp-ers from the wannabes. True, the stats for the drow are impressive, but the level adjustment is a decent deterance. Considering how hard it is to gain xp in dasaria.

FYI: A drow level 1 has an ECL of lvl 3... but he is still a lvl 1 character.
Just wait till that drow gets to lvl 20. Now they have an ECL of 22 -> Higher than any normal race can hope to get. It's why my gnome is a deep gnome... it'll cost me an extra like 60,000xp to get to lvl 20... but it'll be worth it when i'm the only person who can craft godlike items
The only beef I have right now about wizards is that most fighters don't need to party, since they can just potion up and move out, leaving the party characters: wizards, bards, and clerics behind.
I'm forced to just knock out quests all day in hopes of getting a decent enough level that my wizzy can actually provide a benefit to a group (finally made lvl 3... so huzzah!)

You try partying as an anti-social/demeaning deep gnome wizard.Eowade wrote:It kind of switches later on though wizards and clerics and bards start being able to solo areas that fighter types can't. It works out though just make friends along the way and have fun together and it won't be to hard to find some folk to travel around with.

Are you complaining because nobody wants to hang around an arse? You can rp him as a bastard all you want, but don't expect it to be easy. Just give it time and there will be solo content.Guten Raynor wrote:Characters should not be forced to check the "Plays well with others" box. It limits roleplay.

If you are playing an arse and are having troubles finding a party then try the guild trip. It has worked for Rhode a few times.
Rhode approaches a strong LG looking fighter type. "Hey ya feller. Yous ups fer help'n out dat poor farmer Cobs over there. He sure needs some help. Ima bet'n someone likes yous woulds want to help da poor farmer."

it's hard to work Drow into an RP setting without giving them their own city or some such... starting out at lvl 1 in a town where everyone hates your guts will certainly make for a bad beginning. In single player, i play a drow, and i love him, but I would definitely think twice before i would consider playing a Drow on Dasaria... Being the rare exception to the "all drow are evil" rule is all well and good in SP, but when everyone tries to do it, it looses it's potency (and believability). Evil Drow characters are more believable, but they shouldn't expect to just stroll into town...
I think it helps to think about it this way: how would you expect people to react if they come face-to-face with a goblin or a bug bear? they're going to shoot first and ask questions later... remember that in the world we're RPing, you don't have a cursor that you can just hover over people to see whether they're hostile or not...

Conversely, since there is no actual lore on the drow, people don't have a history with the race and don't have the same inborn hatred and fear of them. From this perspective anyone who reacts to a member of the dark races using lore from another setting is meta gaming and therefore breaking one of the server's rules of conduct.
Should the players already using drow characters be running around killing, abducting, and enslaving then it's too late. But automatically reacting as if the race already deserves a death sentence might be wrong.

There seemed to have been two influential drow lineages. The Nayli'o , and G'elle.
What happened before this is that drow were accepted. They were shunned and mistrusted, but people would gather around them in clutches to protect them from the bad guys whenever they thought a drow wasn't all as bad as presumed. The said drow was a very lucky guy. Mweheh.2. In the timeline for Das 1 soon after the Rian Elves arrive they meet with the Queen to discuss the Drow. (What happened during and after this?)
What happened during this is that drow at said time were kicking up a fuss, they were showing their true nature and slowly forming their own groups. They were discerning themselves from the mob and it were their own actions that provoked the queen to outlaw them.
What happened after this is that indeed; drow were outlawed. They weren't allowed in the cities anymore. All drow were KoS. It made it difficult for a new drow to exist, which was good because only good (well, good played ones) remained to exist and the overly big group of Good, Paladin Drow just vanished because they 1. had nobody to RP with and 2. They couldn't get anybody to believe them. This was a lonely time for people who played drow, but very rewarding and inviting to build a reputation as drow. It also invited for lots of scheming amongst the "evil" groups, like the nergalites with the drow, the various drow groups amongst eachother (who were litteraly ready to drink eachother's blood but were forced to cooperate).
Nope, that's true. But seeing that most drow living in Dasaria are tossed out or runaway drow, I'm not sure how the Trials would be of much importance. If anything, I'd say that Anshar was the most likely one to replace Lolth. Maybe it could be the Trials of Anshar. But that's yet to be determined, so it's open for people to roleplay whatever happened. Drow in Dasaria don't entirely equal Drow in the Faerun Campaignsetting. They have the same stats and they look the same; but they are Dasarian drow. They aren't fleshed out the same way just yet, though they look alike a lot. So a lot can still be found out about them. Maybe someone should write something down and send it to the DM's for approval, I'd be thrilled to see a more detailed thing on who they are and what they do.3. Lolth is not in the pantheon thus the trials of Lolth do not exist unless there is some sort of replacement.
They should be, but shamefully they are not. Any proper drow will spit in their faces. Good drow are shunned by the surfacers -and- their own kin alike, as they should be. Good drow are KoS for -all- and it's hunting season.4. They are (I think justly) considered to be evil, and should be of no other alignment.
They aren't documented because they were outcasts. Some, like myself, have interacted often with surfacers. I am married to one and my two children are half-drow and half-highelf. Others have only interacted with them on a less personal level; with a blade in between or through them.5. Various posts from players (in the Das 1 forums) leave me with an impression that they are exact carbon copies of the forgotten realms Drow just without Lolth.
A few comments about #5:
If true, I'm a bit disappointed that they don't have a more documented existence within Dasaria. It seems that no one wants them to have a history of their own, unlike the Rian. What I'm trying to get across here is that the underground lifestyle may be the same, but surely they have a history of interaction with the surface that has been passed down somewhere? I'm just looking for campaign specific tidbits to mold my character around and influence my present behavior.
After all those not present for the first campaign can't have much of a unique Dasarian dark elf past if everything is the same as in the forgotten realms.
Finally, If any of you can point me to things I may have missed I'm sure it would help me and the others interested in interacting with the Drow.
Thanks!
What -is- documented however, I'll point you out to. There are several stories I've written down about myself. Maybe they might help you some. I'll try to find the G'elle stories as well, will post them here when I find them. But honestly, they aren't as interesting. Afterall, they were nothing but lowdown dogs anyways.
If you have any questions and you think I can answer them, feel free to message me. I'm always prepared to help out one of my own kin....Kell wrote:The G'elle Chronicles:

True literature. True. Absolutely. I'm amazed about the capabilities of their extremely small skulls. They speak and behave like monkeys, but writing they -can-!

I hope these little tidbits will help you. There are many more stories on the old forums. If you are looking for Teleiri with the search- (what a nifty function, I like this age of technology!) -button, you may find things about her little squarel with Sin, and all that. I'm not sure why, but they were always dancing around eachother like puppets. Intriguing, but not quite.
Anyways, I have things to do. Be good.
There is a history of drow in Dasaria. Remember the search function is your friend.
Furthermore, Drow were never supposed to be introduced, but since they snuck in through the back door , we are a bit stuck with them. To create a whole new idea of where they came from in this campaign would be a disservice to those that carved a niche in the old campaign without any benefit of lore at all.
IC hatred in Dasaria is well documented and well deserved. The drow seen in Das 1 were the most evil , vile beings...responsible for murders, torture and other nastiness.
