Potions need to be on monster-drops only.

A) If you are worried that your character is unable to be as "buffy" as another character, then why are you playing a character who can't cast buffs?

Not all characters are designed to have buffs on them, all the time.

2) Get Rid of the Potions being sold at the potion shops, replace them with Alchemy ingredients to Craft Potions to at least - be able to make potions, but increase the amount of effort needed to get them.

OR

3) Increase the cost of potions indefinatley to the point that even minor potions start costing the price range of 600+ Gold, so that people don't encumber themselves with bloated backpacks full of potion.

If you can't play your character without having constant potions on them all the time, then you are playing the wrong class.

As it is, I agree.

I use NO potions on my character, I actually die decently often.

I think the act of just chugging potions and staying alive preportionatley to the amount of portable healing that you can buy is both absurd, and game breaking.

How a person can possibly want Dasaria to become like some Japanese MMORPG where you fight monsters multiple levels above you, as long as you right click your little Red Potion icon - is beyond me.

Amen brother, long live Lochwar!

Maybe lochwar should outlaw overdosing on potions :)

Not everyone has a high level character.

I think they're fine the way they are being sold at the apothecary.

Amen Brother and may Lochwar suffer in Culnul !

At the lower levels I had 70 cure light potions on me all the time. But now I have about 10 on me. But my character have only used 3 potions in total until now(level 11). And thats as a wizard.. which is not an easy, nor needed class on this server. It seems potions makes every every fighter a wizard or priest also. It is only an obstacle for roleplay... and the quest are not planned partywise on class, but rather on "how many people do we need for this quest".

It also seems that many times when there is a discussion about changing some aspects of a class, people argue that it will disturb the balance of things. I believe potions as now, is doing just that. Disturbing the balance...

Removing potions from shops and let them be very very difficult to create would be good. But thats just from a wizards and a newcomers point of view.
I will continue to play Dasaria whatever the builders do.. Great world and great people.

PS. I don't see why we cant talk about this, just because its beta. This is only passion and caring for the future of Dasaria. And if we are lucky the builders will remember this thread when they are gonna kick potions out of the Dasaria :P Or at least uncheck "potions available" until they shall be kicked :P :P

Kind regards

Personally, I worry about fun.

Will it be fun for me to not be able to afford any potions for the times when I do not have a healer? (Most of the time)

No. It will stop gameplay for the casual player.

I am level 7. I hold no potions. The last thing I tried to do, with a group, was the bugbears. I have less than 50 gold and not much loot. I always group. That is how I play, and die, a lot. But it's fun. If I couldn't afford to take even a few potions along, I would not be able to adventure.

yay for the fun aspect.
this thread kinda reminds me of FPS games where some guy uses the M$ machine gun with attached rocket launcher and gets called N008 and all that, or accused of nade spam when a grenade kills 3 in one go. Its in the game, a built in mechanic for a reason and should be used, we all knew it from the last 4 years of the old game.

I don't think it's a question of ditching potions altogether, or making them much harder to come by.

I believe the original post was about people chain-chugging potions during combat to obtain a full health bar, then swinging away as if nothing happened. I'll provide an experiment to try: Go chug a gallon of water, as fast as you can, (for added fun, do it while 2 of your good friends are smacking you with bokan) As soon as you've imbibed a full gallon of water, try to jump around as if you're in an actual combat. The sheer volume of liquid you've consumed will make this "uncomfortable" to say the least.

I like the idea of counters when you down potions. I like the idea of interactions. I like even more the idea of more than 2 or 3 potions in a set amount of time cause con saves vs some ill effect (the afore-mentioned nausea being a good one).

Sure, the healing pots you've just chugged like you're at a Holy Temple kegger will heal any damage from the almost-ruptured stomach, but I don't know if healing pots cure the toss-your-cookies ill effect that has been known to follow the upended bottle on many occasions. ;)

Disturbing totalitarian streak emerging here

Post by blackheart »

Seriously, I'm beginning to think we're not beating the right horse here. Why does everyone suddenly seem so concerned with what everybody else is doing, especially when they're not bothering anybody? This seems to be a trend in a number of recent threads. If someone wants to powergame, what business is it of ours? None. It's not like it griefs you if a player is getting the Monk bonus w/a shield over on the other side of the map somewhere (though you may frown on it).

While I disagree with the whole anti-potion thing (already said elsewhere), Minuvas at least sets a good example -- If you don't think a certain practice suits your viewpoint or style, just don't do it. (Conversely, stop griping about it and go have your own fun).

I was recently reminded via PM that potions do seem to be bugged for some classes. I don't believe they are for mine, but if they were, yeah I would also consider not using those. At the same time, what we don't need are a bunch of butinskies auditing what everybody does in the game. Like Wyvern says in his sig, it's just a game.

Go chug a gallon of water
Is there a reference to the size of these potions anywhere? (I'm not pickin on a particular poster for this just using it as a good starting point for the post). There have been a few references to the large amount of liquid kind of thing, but the picture of the bottle is the same size as a sword or suit or armour so I'm guessing its only suggestive, whos to say they ain't shots? I've been on a number of fun nights out where you down your way through a number of those things just to reach your pint and haven't burst so far..

hmmm... some quick answers to that post:
blackheart wrote:Why does everyone suddenly seem so concerned with what everybody else is doing, especially when they're not bothering anybody? This seems to be a trend in a number of recent threads. If someone wants to powergame, what business is it of ours? None.
- because its a PvP server, not a singleplayer campaign?
blackheart wrote:It's not like it griefs you if a player is getting the Monk bonus w/a shield over on the other side of the map somewhere (though you may frown on it).
- amen to that.. just let us all be immortal and let us roleplay it as if we were mortal. Problem solved!
blackheart wrote:At the same time, what we don't need are a bunch of butinskies auditing what everybody does in the game.
- tell that to the priests and maidens of Lochwar :P

Kind regards

This sums up my point of view perfectly.

{edit to add}

This isn't a PVP server...It just has PVP enabled for RP purposes.

If someone starts chugging in PVP the do the same. I don't use potions when fighting unless my opponent does and then I won't chain drink them.

If there was no rest timer then there would be less of a problem in my mind with reducing or limiting potions but how else apart from heal kits and taking the heal skill are people supposed to heal between fights? Not everyone has a cleric to party with and to be honest a cleric would soon burn through all their healing spells before they could rest again not to mention the difficulties of casting during lag.

For PvP if you opponent if chain chugging potions then change tactics or bring more people. Everything has it's counter.

Meh. It's lame but I have my lame anti-lame tactic. If I see you chug 3 potions in a row I spam KD, with the bug in monks flurry of blows even if I use knockdown I sometimes get an attack off for a bit of damage.

Some people will drink a ton of potions. Some people won't.

Play with the ones you prefer.

Have fun.
