Sometime In the Night

Post by Aden Flin »

Sometime during the night—it was hard to tell when—two notices were found nailed securely to the doors of both the Mistyvale and the Buck.

Witnesses say the perpetrator was of diminished height, and was supposedly quite young.

The two notices were identical, and read thusly:

"From the mountains of Durase,
To Lendose river chaste,
The white glory of Dasar,
Who shines to lands afar,

Glory to Siril, whose golden horn cries true,
Calling o'er sky, the glorious argent and blue.
His sword pointed forward, upon the sloping land,
The breadth of Canas' mace shatters by his hand.

The blighted lands of Exodan's wrath,
Shan't keep us from this one true path.
Holy Anu's glory, shall bring victory at last,
The Crown's good heirs bask within his grace,

Ol' glory to Dasaria,
with honour we rise up to the test
Ol' glory to Dasaria,
In the face of evil we shall ne'er rest
Ol' glory to Dasaria,
Anu watch o'er your righteous sons
Ol' glory to Dasaria,
Till peace does come to all,
and all shall stand as one."

A Crown of Gilt, seated upon coiled bolts of violet silk, sat demurely beneath the anthem. The notice was unsigned.

*eyes the notice easily, as he makes his nightly preachings and does not hesitate to act*

He mutters only once "Hah"

Removes the paper immediatley, crumples it and puts it on the ground.

He points a finger at it - a hot white beam of divine energy streaks from his pointer finger and smokes the paper into ash "Forgotten Heretic Rubbish..." He places the heel of his boot into the ash, and turns in a half-circle multiple times, until the wind carries the ash off. He lifts the heel of the steel boot to his knee, takes a small cloth - and brushes the dirt off.

He normally might of done a little investigative work as to how it got there, but the laws were pretty clear on Heresy and Public notices without Imperial permission, and Lochwar forbid he be accused of having such a thing in his possession. Better he just prevent it from being seen by anyone else and keep his eyes and ears open should something like this happen again.

He whistles as he continues walking, a few of the Guardsmen approach him as he makes his rounds - asking for guidance and the blessings of Lochwar as they work the late shift.

He would have to make sure the next mornings sermon was especially filled with Lochwar's blessings of the Empire, and how the Dasarian people were cursed - weak, and pathetic - it seems one of the Old Rebels felt like stirring up trouble again. Frankly, Minuvas had no problem putting them down - just as cleanly as he destroyed the Paper of Lies.

A young man dressed in simple robes followed by a small cat walks past, quietly reads the posting, shakes his head, and pulls it down. Making a move as if to throw it in the rubbish bin, he instead folds it quietly and places it in one of many pockets hidden on the robes.

It is sad that this type thing cannot be said, but grandfather advised me to keep my head down, and trouble here might eventually be trouble on my head, he pauses a moment looking across the sky, what did grandfather always say in that old tongue... oh right, Varana delenda est... Varana must fall.

He turns, a faint breeze catching his robe.

Perhaps one day, perhaps...

Latishe walks by the Buck and hardly notices a pin in the wall with a shred of parchment on it.

That Guardsman Tren is a very nice man. She thinks to herself, recollecting the evening. Men who have stood at death's door and survive seem to possess great vigor. I find such men to be so...enticing. Latishe blushes, and quickens the wicked thought from her mind.

Ironic that death gives life. She smiles at her own private joke.

Two shadows pass gestures and quiet words as the poster is placed near the Buck Inn.

Yes we see them. No, they are not to be harmed yet. Let the Emporeror put a price upon the rebels. That is when we will get involved. Perhaps there is a better way. War is always profitable to the professionals.

There is a winged shadow that flies over the scene. It moves to trace the path of the diminutive figure as they scurry off ino the night. The two figures rejoin the darkness moving to fullfill their obligations to the night.
