No, you know, I completely agree. Unless its required, I really am not going to buy it. They need to fix the bugs in this product first, not release an expansion to do it for them. That's just an excuse not to work on the first problem, which doesn't jive with me at all.

I'm going to buy it.
Put yourself in the game company's shoes. What would you have them do? They need income to keep the business going.
Polishing the original game is good and pretty much required when looking at the state the game was in at release, but it must also be financed somehow.
If they can offer an expansion that will bring a cool single player campaign plus new features (without clogging everything down with even more bugs) and at the same time keep up the work with polishing the original product - I see no harm in that.
All this said, I am certainly no friend of Atari's. They screwed Troika (Temple of Elemental Evil), as well as Obsidian (KotoR II) when it came to pushing out the product ahead of time leaving the games half finished and without further support. I just hope in this case an expansion will allow Obsidian the time they need to finish the bugfixing with NWN2 - so have decided to try and be positive about it.

I might buy it, or not. It all depends on the input in this thread

"Pain or damage don’t end the world, nor despair or f*cking beatin’s. The world ends when you’re dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man — and give some back."

Which should have been a consideration when initial investment into making of the game was made, and contracts were signed. There is all the talk about suits pushing unfinished products out, which is fine and well, but does not excuse the developers from not being able to provide a realistic development schedule, either.xAndersx wrote:I'm going to buy it.

Financing fixes for half-baked games through additional purchases by the paying users creates a bad precedent. Pursuing that line of logic, soon we might find ourselves paying for each subsequent patch released.
They also are the distributor of the WitcherxAndersx wrote: All this said, I am certainly no friend of Atari's. Personally, I will probably buy the expansion, since the OC was fairly enjoyable on its own. I just hope they mean it when they mention increased focus on party members interaction. I was severely disappointed when, after the great start half-way through Chapter 1, the exchanges between the followers of your character virtually sputtered out.
Meh.
I am not contrary!

I only like mounts if they can give me experience by grooming and taking care of them -- in which case I have a hell of a problem explaining how a prissy sorceress like Faen would have one. Heh. If the expansion was added to the mod for just creatures, etc., that's fine, but I would predict a hak pack being added for spell changes.. and am predicting one right now without even viewing what they're going to add (mostly because I can't while at work)..
Obsidian can create great products, I'm just not sure why their head has been in the sand for the past few years. They lost their brains somewhere along the way.

I'll buy it. And I bet most of you who say "I won't buy the expansion" will end up buying it, too. The OC wasn't that much fun, but it was kind of cool to try out all the little toys that we'll never see in a PW. And some of the cinematics were fun, and some of the voice acting was polished.
The main reason I want it is for the new content, which will be required if any of it is added to Das (e.g., mounts? Wyverns underneath the troll cave?).
I thought the OC was boring in comparison to a solid RPing PW like Das. But what single player game wouldn't be (rhetorical)?
Let's keep in mind that there is no recurring revenue for Atari from the community. So unlike MMORPGs they don't have unlimited funds to work on bug fixes, and the company DOES need to earn cash to keep the community going. So the expansion is a great thing on that front.
As long as they maintain a separate team to work on bug fixes, stability issues and keep patching the game, we can expect most of the "good stuff" that keeps us playing will come from the PW builders and the community of players (especially true on a RPing server like Das).
Gripe all you want. If you like NWN2, you can only be happy for the company that sells it to make more money, so that the lifespan of the community will be extended.
