How does one translate into the other?

The multiplayer part of the game is still suffering from a number of problems, all too frequent crashes on transition being the most serious issue.

I cannot imagine why an expansion pack release would suddenly cause the developer to shift their focus on the multiplayer aspect of the game.

As for making more money, who knows how much of it goes to Obsidian, and how much to Atari?

What I find odd is how much of a difference there is in detail of clothes and armor in NwN2 and TES: Oblivion, which was an earlier release. Frankly, some of the pieces in NwN2 have a feel of placeholder quick brush up rather than final release...

Don't get me started on the faces, either.

I Agree with rob on this one, I am not going to buy it unless it is required to play Das II as I didn't and won't play the single player version. A friend of mine got me to buy the game just to play on Das II, he said I'd enjoy it even as a total newbie to internet gaming. That was back in January and he was definetly correct. It's great I'm totally addicted :D (When I can get ingame, theres not too much lag/crashes etc)

Only problem is he has now recommended I also buy another very different internet game and join his group of friends that play on it, it looks really cool but I'm not sure I'm ready to become addicted to another game just yet. (Battlefield 2042 I think it's called)

At one time I was engaged in a PM conversation with a member of the Obsidian staff regarding PW and the OOC.

During that conversation, the staff member pointed out that the costumers who played NWN and NWN2 in any multi-player format amounted to nothing more than a drop in the bucket. He went on to quote to me the number of boxes sold and compared that number to the number of costumers actively playing the game online via Gamespy.

He appeared to be very much in the “right” with his mathematical based argument. I had some problems with the skew of his pseudo-statistical comparison. I ask him if he happened to have a number for the total amount of CD keys had been registered on Gamespy over the last few years since NWN came out and how that number compared to the number of boxes sold.

He never answered.

It’s all about selling the boxes folks, make no mistake, the company is either too short sighted or to financially unstable to consider anything else ihmo.

I hear you, and I am sure the focus of Atari/OE is on the masses of players who never venture into PW playing. Again, other things being equal (i.e., if they fix the stability issues with MP) most of the actual work of making NWN2 a long-term success will be handled by the PW builders and the player base. The vast majority of the people who only play the OC will put this game down as soon as another cool game comes to market.

We control how successful Das2 becomes by contributing story, character development, and even content itself to the world. Really, if the server didn't crash regularly, and the game client didn't keep crashing to desktop, we would be halfway there. The folks who play the single player game don't really notice or care about the numerous bugs in the various classes/races/gameplay issues. They don't need to since the OC is uber-high magic and players can craft all the whiz-bang goodies they desire, turning their toons into demi-gods. BLECH! How boring.

I bet 1.06 will address a lot of the MP issues. My fingers are way crossed for that.

Heh, I think my point was missed...

The 0.001% that the "MP costumer base" supposedly represents that Obsidian was quick to toss in my face, was most likely total BS.

If everyone who ever registered an CD key with Gamespy, and thus were interested in some form of MP, were counted and compared to the number of game boxes sold, I'm betting that "drop in the bucket" would jump up to a much higher percentage (50%? more?).

Obsidian really just didn't want to hear it.

IF I install the expansion and Dasaria does not, will I be unable to play on Dasaria? That's all I really need to know, because i have no intentions of getting into a heated discussion about Atari.

I really hated Nwn 1's expansion and epic levels, it is the main reason i stopped playing Nwn 1, i feel that it ruined my old server (for me, at least) and made the game extremely unbalanced.

The only way i will buy this one is if you guys can somehow apply it to the server without unbalancing it with those horrible epic feats, levels, etc.

Can't you just keep the epic crap all out and put all the new models and other junk in? :p Plus the "old-school" feel to this Nwn is pretty fun.

These are the current gamespy numbers. Take from it what you will.

12. Neverwinter Nights
830 servers, 3239 players

31. NeverWinter Nights 2
166 servers, 488 players

But how many servers and players were there for NwN1 after 5 months?

Gildren: It is not about the amount of CD-keys registered in Gamespy.

This 'fact' that PW players represent a tiny fraction of the playerbase was pulled by Bioware, and is very correct - according to Gamespy, the most players online at a given time on NWN1 amounted to the low 5 thousands.

Over 3 million copies of NWN were sold.

At any rate, what I don't understand with some poeple here, is why play this game at all if they loathe it so much?

Cause we are one big disfunctional family that has known each other for years.

If it does come to Das II will I be able to have my mage walk around on fire when he gets angry or is that already possible somehow?

It's true. Bronc stole Evelond as a baby from his crib outside of Walmart, and nurtured him into the rage-filled maestrom of pre-teen fury that we know now.

Can he also have it as a scroll to learn from or awarded as special Cuhannan ability?
