The Openning of a chest.

Post by Minuvas »

Little more than a Letter and a Chest.

Thats all Minuvas tended to get now a days, a Letter with a persons problems - and usually expecting him to make it better in a few quick strokes of his mace.

This time someone actually GAVE something in return.

The Neophytes looked at Minuvas " Father? Where would you like the Chest?"

Minuvas held up his hand "Hold one moment. This chest supposedly contains the villain who attacked thrall's gate, and attempted to set it ablaze? Lay it there for a moment"

Minuvas looked at the crate, placing his ear to it - attempting to hear what was inside.

"Place it in the Gaols in my Quarters..."

The chest was brought behind the iron bars, and the door was locked. Minuvas smashed the chest so that the halfling could escape from it, only the cold Iron room behind Iron bars of a Gaol in Minuvas' quarters were what she saw.

"A woman? A halfling...." He placed a stool at the bars, sitting on it. Looking upon the creature, trying to figure out who she was. "So than...start speaking Halfling, and MAYBE you may not be put in a -different chest-" Minuvas pointed to another chest across the room, it was locked and sealed by divine barriers and had a small , neat, stone sign on the lock "Heretics".

"So than...start talking..."

The halfling stood with conviction, shaking away the wood chips from the broken chest and the golden light that shattered it. She was a sight, covered with fresh blood and scars across her face, some seemed to be as old as she and some were obviously earned during her capture. Her countenance was the picture of fury, and despite the ordeal of enclosure, the halfling brings herself to her full height before raging at the Father before her.

“TALK!!!!! OH, I WILL TALK ALL RIGHT!! WHERE IS THE SON-OF-A-TREE-HUMPING-JACKEL-FACED-ORC’S-REAR THAT PUT ME IN THAT CHEST!!! You I will deal with later but before you will have a word from me I will have that demon-spawn-half-witted-son-of-a-slow-mule put in here with me. Don’t even bother getting my weapons. Oh, No. Completely unneeded at this time thank you. I will be more than happy to rip his limbs off one by one and beat him with them before I shove that bald elven head up his hindquarters. Make yourself useful Father and get me some ale to wash the parch from my throat. Bring me the one who put me in that chest and we can talk until those precious ears of yours fall off. ‘Til then I ain’t saying anything.”

The halfling knits her arms across her chest in a blatant show of defiance to the Father of the Lochwarian Church that she left in flames a moon ago.

Smiles, he almost likes when they struggle.

"No? No Talking at all...that is a pity you do not even know what I am to ask.

But very well, I am a kind man - I will not pressure you to do anything. Until you are ready to talk, you will not be given any rations , and a Neophyte will awake you from your slumber every hour on the hour.

When you are ready to talk....you can ask for me"

He stood up from the stool, and moved to a desk - not very far away from the Gaol cell at all, and began to read. If theres one thing he has, its patience.

One of the neophyte's knocks gently at the door to Minuvas's private quarters. "Father? The one who sent the chest has come. Would you have him wait in the Church proper or shall I show him in?"

*Looks up to see the Neophyte*

"Send him in..I a most interested to meet this person."

*Looking at the Halfling in the Cage, wondering how she's faring having gone a day or two without food or much rest at this point. How dissapointing it was she was still refusing to speak...*

*Minuvas felt no need to stand as the man walked in * "Have a seat..."

The halfling’s reaction to the newcomer is immediate and sincere. She begins a series of rapid hand gestures, some rather rude and others, unclear in their meaning.

(points to Minuvas then waves her hands over her head and taps her skull lightly as if in question or conveying thought)

(points at the newcomer and hugs herself tightly – this is followed by her rapidly forcing one fist through the fingers of her closed hand)

(rubs her fingers together and points to Minuvas then draws her finger across her throat and points to the new comer)

Once she has concluded her point has been made, she draws back into stillness appearing to want to conserve her strength. She remains standing though it is obvious the hunger is taking its toll.

The newcomer takes a moment to digest the display he has just witnessed.

“She is verbose without saying a word and is obviously familiar with the thief’s cant. Curious that one so strong willed and well versed in killing with blades should know that particular method of communication. Would you like me to translate for you Father?”

*lifts an eyebrow*

"Perhaps I am more confused as to who you are, and how you know such a language. You come to this church and you seek sanctity within its walls, and you deliver such a prize. How do I not know this is some elaborate scheme..."

*looking between the both of them*

"How do I even know this is who you claim it to be."

"You demonstrate the wisdom you are known for Father. Who am I? Such a complex question cannot be addressed with mere words but I will do my best. I am the quiet side of the Lochwarian faithful. I was not blessed with the power to convert nor the strength to slay in the name of Our Master Lochwar, so I have trained in the talents that come more naturally to me. I was once a leader of elven warriors and found the burden heavy. Power is beyond my ability and so I choose to wield my mind in creative ways to serve the Master. Where the hammer cannot go, this is my domain. The quiet places and shadowed realms where the thieves lurk and defilers find comfort as they plan against the Church, and even the Empire. The thief’s cant is like a second language to me. There are many secrets and signs one learns while living among the vile traitors. It is a matter of survival to know your enemies' language. I am also fluent in the drow, or dark elven, tongue and somewhat familiar with the language of the deep gnomes though they have crossed my path very rarely. One learns a great deal over the course of 250 years. It is a shame the light of the human race is extinguished so quickly."

The elf feels his explaination is adequate for now and presses his first inquiry. "Father, shall I translate for you or perhaps I can have her speak clearly." The elf takes a scroll from his pouch and awaits Father Minuvas's answer.

* Minuvas fails to lose his suspicion especially after hearing about the man's association with elves, and shadow-lurking. But supposes that , as Lord of Plot's there is a reason Lochwar brings this man before him*

"Go on than..." he says with a lack of anything that might be called confidence.

(OOC: I find your lack of faith disturbing.)

“Let me interpret what I can for you. She is actually asking questions, which is a good thing, because it would appear she is still concerned with her survival, and to some degree, her immortal soul. She is wondering if you are administering your interpretation of the Law as viewed by the Emperor or is punishment for her actions to be handled through the Church she has violated. She acknowledges that she owes a debt of punishment to both and will gladly repay the debt as the Church and governing body of the city of Cear see fit. It appears her actions were intended to serve her Goddess and were corrupted by gold. I have the coin with which she was paid. It would appear someone wanted a revolution, or a witch-hunt, started very badly. The ten emperors she carried when I captured her appeared to be weighing her down significantly. I will not bore you with the violence she wishes to visit upon my fragile form. She will be dealt with upon her release in the distant future as is necessary.”

“It would seem she is repentant, to the Church at least, though her desire to remain silent has not wavered. There is some assistance I would give you in loosening her tongue if you would like, Father.” The elf draws an ornate scroll case from the belt that encircles his waist. It would appear that he uses the mastery of others’ spells quite often as he has several more of the cases encircling his narrow form.

*overlooks the elf as he draws a spell, like a man drawing a weapon from a Holster - Minuvas can only suspect what is to occur next*

"And to what god does she serve? Her punishment I have yet to decide. I could hand her over to the Imperial Gaols, and they'd cut her head off for me if I'd like...after all you say she's admitting to trying to burn and kill those of the Church, and furthermore - she did it for gold.

I want to know who paid her. I want to know why she would insult the God's with an action, I also think it suitable that those 10 Emperors she was given will be directed into the Church coffers, to pay for her damages - amongst other things.

She will get no repentance from me unless I hear her voice, I have no concern to speak the language of Thieves".

The elf smiles for the first time since he has come into Father Minuvas’s presence. There is no joy in the expression, only the resolution of an individual intent on his purpose and comfortable in his “work”. He directs his attention to the halfling once more. (OOC: This is the most powerful mind control spell in the realms. You just have to ask yourself, do you feel resistant, punk. Well, do you?)

“You know the extent of my powers to some degree already. You may retain your silence if you insist and then I will open your mind and mouth by force. Your strength may be considerable however the willpower to resist me in this instance will not be enough. Save yourself the pain of me opening your mind. Answer the Father’s questions and at least be fed. Who knows the grace of Father Minuvas? You may even be able to walk in freedom once again to share the grace that is shown to you one day.”

The halfling responds with only a finger raised toward the heavens as the back of her had faces the elf. The look in her eyes coupled with the gesture leave no doubt as to her thoughts on the matter. Do your worst.

The elf smiles at the halfling's gesture. "One could only expect something so base from one so violent. It is your lack of control and inability to think what is best for you even though it may go against your pride that will ultimately kill you. Something tells me you don't fear death and when you go to the next realm, be it the abyss or hell, you will be as much a bull headed warrior there."

The elf unrolls the scroll gently, careful not to damage the edges as he prepares to read it. "Father, when you are ready to begin your questioning, let me know and I will bring her under my control if that is acceptable. You will find her much more communicative as I have said."
