Another thing to consider is level restrictions. You might want to have 3 sections; one for levels 1-6, one for 7-10, and one for 11-15. Alternatively, in a 4 vs. 4 battle, you might have a restriction for total number of levels. For instance, if you chose 40, people would have to decide between a nicely balanced team of 4 level 10 characters, or a top heavy team with 2 level 15s and 2 level 5s. Just something to think about.
I also think that this would work really well if it was part of a celebration in commemoration of something. Perhaps it's the Emperor's Birthday, and we're having a tournament in his honor? A Lochwarian holiday, etc. etc.

Outline of sorts
Ok, to get a couple of things just out there
The bracket system, good idea, im thinking 1-6, 7-13, and 14 and up.
As to the cleric for ressurection, already taken care of, Elerion volunteered, and I asked will and he gave me an ok.
Rules, That would be something good to set up, but all im coming up with is: No AOE Death spells
I would also like, as a request/suggestion, to see the more powerful/prominent people lead their own teams, rather than forming all powerful ones, to eleminate the total dominance of a powergamer or two on the same team.
Tell me what you think guys, and suggest any improvements

Great idea Shorn. We used to have these in Das 1 and they were a lot of fun. I definitely don't want to step on your toes or take away from this being a player driven thing, but I will pledge my DM support for this. So I'll leave it to you to just let me know what needs and to what extent you want that help, if any.
As to a rules suggestion, we used to have a rule that no potions or scrolls were allowed. Drug things out wayyy too long, and made it about who had the most cash more than anything else. But, that may be a moot point now with the new potions in place, and it's just a suggestion. Think long and hard about those bracket ranges as well.

If he is still around Boone Goobey would probably enjoy a 5 v him pvp but I haven't seen him in ages.
If you think it would be required I could get some friends to make sure no one interfers with a match and keep their eyes out for theives. (depending on the time of the tournament though)
Just a thought; Are you letting participants Buff before each match?

About that
I think I'll go with a rule suggested to me that I was told was used in Das 1, which would be, 10 seconds to buff, then the match starts.
And nothing against boone, but 3 dispells later, he is a level 10 fighter with less hp. Nice guy though, and an excellent pvper

Another good way to determine how buffed up the fight should start is decide on a number of buffs to allow prior to the match beginning, usually a low number, such as three or four.
For a fighter-type, this probably covers most of (if not all of) his buffs, and for a mage it lets them get up a damage reduction spell (such as stoneskin) and a few others so the fight doesn't end in three rounds when the mage gets powercritted to death.

As an aside, what's the current consensus on an arena area for non-fatal pvp? Someone mentioned it a while ago, but is such a thing wanted/possible in Das? I'm sure if there was enough demand it could be implemented in an RP-friendly way.
On a more relevant note, I think time differences may cause a problem, so if this does go ahead, we really need to inform people at least a week ahead, and maybe post up some useful information on GMT times (http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/ for example). Just so people unfamiliar with it can figure out when it will take place in their time.
As for buffing, I think it'd be unfair to restrict buffing, and limiting people to a set amount of buffs is just as bad - we really need to allow people to do what they need to before a fight (e.g. fighters to use charms, mages and divine casters to buff etc. etc.)

Maybe have a few different tiers,a last man standing and a same class arena event,IE rogue vs rogue, cleric vs cleric since some non powerbuilds would have no chance against a fully buffed cleric or druid (50+ ac anyone?). I would be willing to donate a few prizes or emperors to the cause as well as handle raises/help with whatever.

The non fatal arena(training ground) is a great idea too,as far as buffing before a fight what about a set time limit to buff in? like 30 seconds or something. That way casters would have to pick the very best buffs for the situation instead of casting for 13+ rounds to face some poor melee who clicks his 3 charms and stands there waiting for his foe to finish buffing

Re: About that
That there was for the mage 1v1 duels only, the team battles were not allowed this period of time to buff.Shorn wrote:I think I'll go with a rule suggested to me that I was told was used in Das 1, which would be, 10 seconds to buff, then the match starts.
I don't know how adding the total amount of levels would work, most times than not 2 level 20's can easily wipe 2 15's and a couple of 5's. I think your best bet might be to just have light weight and heavy weight devisions.
Ok
Ok, while it is true that a rogue wont stand a chance against a cleric, the point of team battles is to use all your strengths against them in the best way possible.....2 dispels later, that cleric is going to get wtfpwnt by a rogue.
And yes, sirius, I think that arena would be a great idea.
For the buffs and such, I think that we should drop the buffing time, but allow certain buffs before battle, such as shadow sheild and death ward, for the sake of keeping people from getting fried straight up

Be sure to disallow buffs like Etherealness beforehand. That's just not fair.papaya taco wrote:Another good way to determine how buffed up the fight should start is decide on a number of buffs to allow prior to the match beginning, usually a low number, such as three or four.
