UPDATE:
This has taken me way too long to post and I apologise in advance. The proposal has been pretty well received and there are a fair few people interested already, which is great.

I'm really just waiting on a reply from the DMs, but Wyv said it had been well received, and thus, I think we're pretty safe to begin the latter stages of planning.

This involves assigning positions etc. so I think it'd be best to do it in here, in the form of a register in my original post. So, as per my previous posts: If you would like to express interest in joining the Dasarian Provincial Mages Guild, feel free to post here, or PM me (preferably post here to keep the topic alive :P). I'm letting people take Mage and Mage-Knight positions up front, just to get us into the swing of things, so this is your chance to avoid all the (for lack of a better word) crap that newcomers will have to go through (e.g. becoming a charge).

And just to confirm, this is a guild of mages (warlocks, wizards and sorcerors, and any hybrids (only need 1 level of a 'mage' class)) that intends to function on a fairly commercial level (crafting of items for sale, sharing of recipes, acting as mercenaries etc. etc.). There are, however, positions for soldiers within the Guild, but our main goals up front will be crafting and establishing a large membership.

As for the positions, and how things will work, I'm going to be holding the High Arcanist position initially, and will remain so until I have elected an Arch-Mage for each Aspect and the three Electors. After that (and by that time) we should really be in the process of heavy IG and forum recruiting, and the need for me to hold the top position will be lessened, and we can begin the normal functions.

You better disallow people with one level of bard. Just ... just suggesting. Not that I'm thinking of a blatant melee powerbuild or anything. *cough*RDD*cough*

Also, I'm interested with my mage char.

Just a suggestion; you may have too restrict what Races join due to how the campaign and other various reasons e.g. Drow.

I didn't even think about bards. Hmmm. But I'll add them to the list of mages. I honestly am trying to leave things as open as possible, so there's a place for as many people as possible. People with 1 or more Wizard or Warlock or Sorceror (Or Bard, now) level can become Mages or Mage-Knights, fighters and anyone decent in melee (including Mages or Mage-Knights) can become a Tower Guard or Phoenix Guard.

Oh, and all races are allowed except drow. Covered that a fair while back, it's one of the codes I think.

EDIT: I've included bards.

EDIT EDIT: I've added the names of those interested so far to the register. Please let me know the names of characters or forum accounts if I don't have them already.

Ten including myself, not too bad. I'm really looking forward to beginning in-game recruiting.

Oh and remember people, it's wizards, sorcerors, warlocks and bards, only need 1 level of any of those to qualify. And if you're a meatshield, I mean warrior, we have positions as well.

In the future, there'll be positions for non-caster rogues as well. So if you're one of those and you're interested, I can add you to the list of future candidates.

EDIT: Also, the register is at the bottom of the first post. Just scroll right down to the end.

Just to ensure people I haven't totally lost interest, here are some images of robe designs. Honestly, I'm a little annoyed that the poor selection has resulted in me re-using the same model for the Mage/Mage-Knight and Arch-Mage robes, but the colour theme should hopefully distinguish them well.

I'm still deciding what to do with the male and female High Arcanist robes, I really like the robe that I've used for the male, but it has a section that is permanently blue, so for the High Arcanists the colour theme is different for the male and female variant. (And for those wondering, the colours are Blue/Grey/Black/White). I intended the colours to go Blue/Grey/White for Mages, to Black/White/Grey for Arch-Mages, to White/Black for High Arcanists. Didn't work out clearly :P

(Here's the order, the front two are Mage Robes, the middle two are Arch-Mage Robes and the final two (and Sirius) are High Arcanist robes, female and male variants). They look rather bland by themselves I must admit, but if you imagine them with hats on, and staffs etc. they look quite good. Also, I've included a picture of Sirius in his normal gear, but with the high arcanist robe). Thanks.

Oh, and just to confirm, I'm not even sure if we'll end up using these, I was just playing around and decided to keep the area with the items. And P.S. The items aren't exactly powerful, they're meant to be ceremonial in a sense, so the weakest ones are AC+1, Skill Bonus +1 to Concentration, Spellcraft and Lore, the Arch-Mage one is +2 on all those, and the High Arcanist is +3. The High Arcanist one is too powerful for a ceremonial robe, so I'm going to knock it back to +2AC. Thanks again, and I'll cut this rant short.

You may want to see what it looks like on non-human races.

Del Xil would offer his services to the arcane smithing branch. Curious if they check race by anything other then how they look though... Do they?

I'm shooting for Archmage myself... Hot diggity.

Those pictures remind me of what NWN2 can look like (when not optimized for less crashing)... I hope they fix it soon so I can go back to beauty.

I really love the High Arcanist one when Sirius has all his gear on, it's great, I really like the look of it. And I just realised that non-humans won't be able to wear it  (It's Black Garius' robe model, only wearable by male humans it seems, it certainly doesn't work on females, hence the two variants). As for the female variant, it will work on all people.

It's looking like I might have to drop my beloved feathered-robe in favour of a more race-friendly one, e.g. the same one that the female High Arcanist is wearing, at least that way I could make the colours correlate.

Oh, and Guten, I pumped the graphics up for the screenies in case you didn't know. But I agree, I look forward to being able to keep my settings around that level online in the hopefully not too distant future.

Just a suggestion; maybe the higher rank robes should have imperial red/gold colour theme? Anyway, I'd add a little more variety to the colouring of the robes if i were you. Right now they all look roughly the same with minor changes. I recommend major changes like, Red being the colour of high arcanist, blue being the colour of Mage-knights and lets say purple for ordinary mages, or something like that. The idea would be that the colour would state the position of the character wearing that particular robe, and to add a little variety.
Insanity has been kind to me, but no longer.

Hehe I figured you might have. I do that for screens too... and sometimes just to oogle... Graphics have come a long way since commander keen :D

I agree with kikkel that perhaps the color scheme should be more noticable. Or perhaps have the colors the same and change the robes themselves. Start with the basics and work up to awesome.

Just thought I would chyme in.

Just consider the role of females in Varana. If the Provincial Mages Guild is imperially oriented, could females even rise above certain ranks, let alone "Archmage?"

How would males studying your academy possibly be taught by a Spell-Flinging female who's more concerned with nail polish spells, that fireballs ;) (Joke aside) --- how will that fit into its vision?

Considering that the Magnus Order (formerly the Ji Lyn) are ruled by a witch queen and, from all indications, were a predominantly female order, I'm not sure that a woman in a position of power in a magic-oriented group would be a problem.

Lorcann - "BACON!"
