And all of this is "public" knowledge? You're talking about an empire that was built on alliances with drow, devils, necromancers, a dracolich from the great beyond, and has incorporated into it the Magnus Order which also had no problem using various summoned critters to achieve their ends.
Insanity has been kind to me, but no longer.

Scary? Sure. Evil? No.
From The Complete Arcane
Warlocks are not inherently evil. (not always atleast)In fact, many warlocks are created by nonevil powers - wild or fey forces that can be every bit as dangerous as demons or devils. Whatever their origin, warlocks are widely feared and misunderstood. (p.6)
Scary? Sure. Evil? No.

From what I've read about of Varana in the campaign background, and what I've seen and heard IC, The Empire is about control and power. I suspect that the Empire would care not that you are a powerful CE Warlock, Wizard, Sorceror and you eat small children for breakfast etc, as long as you bow to the Emperor and his laws and the pantheon lead by Lochwar. Openly oppose them and expect to be crushed.
I would also suggest to people who plays characters with ideas of sedition and plot against the Empire to think very seriously before joining the Mages guild. The reason being is that the Mages Guild only exists by the pleasure of Governor Verkethed, and if you are using the guild as cover for treasonous activities, you are putting of all the mage guild members at great risk. Your character had better hope that the Varanites capture you first and give you a quick death, as the wrath of Mages guild would be far worth. There are lots of ways to magically torture the mind, body and the soul for an eternity...
Please note this is my personal opinion, and I'd welcome the DM/design team to correct me if I am wrong. However I cannot see the Inquisition, The Claw, the Guards, the Talon, the Dark Heralds and the Churches of the Pantheon of Lochwar sitting around making daisy chains while revolt is being planned in an government 'approved' organisation.

or maybe some nefarious son of a bitch only hides his treasonous activities too well for anyone to discover, and then when no one suspects, takes over the whole world! There's a good chance of someone hiding their treasonous activities, for a time, but nothing remains secret in Cear for long. Especially not when there'd gold involvedkikkelipoika wrote:or maybe some nefarious son of a bitch only hides his treasonous activities too well for anyone to discover, and then when no one suspects, takes over the whole world! Heh, apparently you haven't bribed anyone before. 75 Emperors could turn Minuvas himself into a Priest of Relkikkelipoika wrote:If gold is the best you can do, expect to be overthrown quickly.
Nevertheless, Sirius is no easy man to best. I wish luck to the poor person who tries to do him in.
