Sorry number 5 dont settle well with me.. Being that it feels that the ratio of Dm's and players and dm's are still being increased.. Greedy power hungry dm's may run around. Favortism begins to develop (Dont say it hasnt) I can remember several occasions where any one of my charectors was excluded along with several other players..
Sorry thats just my personal feel.. All the others sound pretty decent! But 5 just provokes doom to the server

Both of those.5. Requiring DM approval with a waiting period to any player wishing to engage in those subraces.
6. Letting players know that this is a human dominated campaign and human and dasaria-standard races will get more opportunities for storyline support, special events, and content opportunities.
As much as I do want to play a sub-race (Aasimir in this case), I do think that it should require DM approval for this campaign.

In order of appearance ..
And then ..Jeh wrote:2. Locking the subraces out with a tiny hakpak file.
Then perhaps this as well …Jeh wrote:3. Removing some of the statistical advantages of the subraces in question

I like this idea because the playerbase will always want the *option* to create someone unique but at the same time i do not know how much time or effort it would take to make the changes. i like this idea because it doesn't take anything away from the world or the culture of the society. DM approval would be my second choice

I'm all for option 5, with DM's looking at the quality of the player.
Good players can play powerful characters well without upsetting the applecart.
I'm against any kind of nerfing / boosting for balance (I was really miffed that epic levels were not allowed in Das). If things are a bit skewed in terms of balance, then restrict those features to players who show they could handle them sensibly within the campaign setting.
((now this is an opinion thats about 2-3years too late?))
epic levels thing in Das; I was always for the idea that you let players get them. but don't provide content to level up through them (ie bigger n stronger monsters/quests) - make it XP gained through RP & handed out by DM's that get's you those levels.
((anyway, a moot point way too late, I know
, but helps illustrate my stance on balance issues ))

This combination makes the most sense for an open server. Let people know it is human dominated but let people try out the other races, because they will want to. Humans still get the bonus feats so there still is an advantage there.Jehannum wrote:We have a very options we are considering:

I understand the point both you and J4 are making but from your reply it sounds like you have already decided that the Tiefling is broken and any person that wants a PC based only on stats will only pick a tiefling to be a wizard or rogue. It sounds a little bit twinky.Wyvern wrote:Anyone who wants to play a Wizard or a Rogue who doesn't play as a tiefling, will have an immediate disadvantage. No other race will be on a par with this subrace.
That is just one example of why this discussion has been opened up. An extra feat that a Human gets wouldn't even come close to making me decide to select one.
If you are concerned about the p0wrgamerz out there then tweak the teiflings, if you are looking to give everyone full access to the races as well as the classes you will need to accept that there are going to be twinkies running around the server. Das is a good server for RPing. Teiflings may well become the new whipping boys (picking up from the drow) and picking one could have considerable RP penalties making up for the statistical advantage.
I was, and am, just stating my opinion in response to Jeh's question.

I agree completely. No decision has been made, that is why this thread exists in the first place. J4 and I were just expressing the nature of the tiefling race and the sorts of things that it would be capable of for those who aren't numerically inclined.
And any and all opinions are welcome and carry equal weight (even those from other DMs.)

Mmmmmm
I like the idea of an XP cap, after all, XP is what governs the 'power' of a character, and its the power of the character thats the problem (from what I can see).
Plus, make the 'evil' races EoS, from what I've read there won't be much/any EoS contect for a while so that'll put off most people.
However, if I want to make a Teifling whatever, just to see what they're like, and have a play, I'd hate to have to go to another server, or start a single player game to do it.

Re: Mmmmmm
Curious as why people think it's actually necessary to make sub races available?
If I wanted to try a priest of Thor I wouldn't expect the DMs to change the world to allow priest's of Thor, why should they allow subraces that they don't feel fit the culture of the campaign they want to run?

It's what I'm thinking too. Your standard races; human, elf, half-elf, half-orc, midget, dwarf and ugly midget seem to be more than enough.
I don't really see why you would need all that other stuff other than for the novelty value.
You know, you can ruin a dish by putting too many spices. Just because it's a spice, doesn't mean it'll work in every dish.

To be honest, the only reason I would want to play a sub-race (Assimir) is because they have a different "look". ( I don't care diddly about their stats.
) There are such limited choices that it is tempting to play one just to get a bit of visual variety among the players. If everyone is playing mostly humans, there are going to be an awful lot of clones running around.
